I have to wonder if purists were upset MJ became a blonde. I wonder why not just make her Gwen Stacey, who was a blonde already. Gillian Anderson's a redhead. Maybe they could have cast her as MJ and Kristen as Gwen. I think Meryl Streep would have been a great Aunt Em. And I think Michael Caine a great Uncle Joe.

Mary Jane is a fantastic character in the original series. People forget and call her the one note damsel in distress. Maybe there's an argument to be made, but I think she's a great and dare I say accurate representation of the pretty party girl who comes from a broken household and has insecurities of their own. Better female characters doesn't just mean that they're strong like the boys, and they can help out too! Obviously, you need both in our stories, but most women aren't like that. Mary Jane has parent issues and the fact that she hops around from Flash, to Harry, To day dreaming about Spiderman then ultimately Peter, its obviously a consequence of her upbringing, as her father told her she'd never amount to anything. Women aren't written in films today the way they were 20 years ago and in that time, I do think something was lost about the average, normal and the ordinary. Through this lense, shes one of the most "complex' love interests out there.

I think they hooked up after this interview, from what I heard from some mates who were on the set at the time (lighting and camera operators), that they both went to the bathroom together for abotu 20 minutes and made love. Everyone knew it. they were in the toilet for 20minutes together and apparently you could hear them moaning.

She has moments where you can see how good of an actor she is. Especially in NWH. And her MJ is also an objectively better MJ than Kirsten. Kirsten is hands down the worst love interest between the 3 different live action Spiderman franchises. Gwen, Zendaya's MJ, and Kirsten's MJ in that order. Kirsten's MJ was literally trying to cheat every chance she got.
