I have been watching Arcimoto's progress (and your tiny/innovative living videos) for years - but I think this has been one of the most enjoyable, informative and "independent feeling" videos on this company....ever. Fascinating to get the perspective of people who are so obviously "newbies" - and asking all the questions we would have loved answered.....in one video!

@@XRP747E To be accurate, this deviates greatly from Elon's path. Teslas are an abomination and huge mistake that will come to light soon. They pander to those who demand unsustainably long and fast drives in excessively heavy luxury status symbol vehicles. Each Tesla contains enough materials to build 3 or 4 Arcimotos. So is there a battery mineral shortage at all, or is there just a battery mineral squandering probem?

Acrimoto are a really nice fit with a lot of what you normally cover. Really enjoyed your factory visit and your family’s response to these vehicles. I’ve just got back from a few weeks in Italy and these would be perfect for a lot of the narrow streets. And not just because of the size but the lack of noise pollution/air pollution. It seems Arcimoto would be a huge boom in my country India if price can be achieved between a ev car and a ev 2 wheeler. As India is gearing up for EVs and most popular are ev 2 wheelers. Arcimoto would be a perfect fit as daily commute distances are relatively small and traffic conditions are not favorable for cars.

The main issue seems to be the price. They’d need to ramp uo their production to reduce their current costs (as per their site, prices start at around $18k). Nice vehicle and seems to be very safe and stable, so I guess that’s the price for safety and innovation.

@@__WJK__ There are some itches we should not scratch. The constant mention of doors largely comes from people who have never been on a motorcycle and have gone everywhere in over sized heavy climate controlled lounge couches. The concept and goal of Arcimoto is to break the car habit for many. It is as stubborn as a herion addiction but it has to go. Arcimoto will be catering to these poorly reasoned and mostly unjustified demands in order to sell more autocycles. As long as it reduces the abuse of 4 passenger cars which are typically driven with one passenger and 80% of their internal space empty it is an improvement but demanding to be transported around like royalty or heads of state in luxurious sealed vehicles is counter productive to sustainable transportation goals. Even electric Jeeps will waste more energy and have a shorter range with doors installed. My heated seat and heated grips, combined with the wind break of the windshield and roof are all I need to drive in winter. The FUV does not have to be suitable for all climates to be a great success. Snowmobiles are useless in Florida but they still have a market.

As an engineering student I competed in the ASME human powered vehicle challenge, which is just an overblown way to say bikes/trikes. But it got me thinking how different our world would look if we had developed cars towards light weight tube frame vehicles like a tadpole tricycle, emphasizing lightness and efficiency. Instead we went down a path of heavy vehicles which pile on luxuries and bloat. They become heavier and less aerodynamic and so our efficiencies never really get better and i feel like the vast majority of people will not trade their luxurious sofas on wheels for something as light and airy as these. Especially if the other vehicles on the road remain 4000lb hunks of steel piloted by distracted drivers. Even just seeing the driving shots, these vehicles are more fun and engaging, so distracted driving would go down. I just don't know if America is ready for this type of vehicle shift. Maybe in the cities. It does make me sad, I applied to multiple engineering positions with arcimoto and received emails back a year later from my application. It's a worthy endeavor with some strong headwinds to success (the average American consumer)

With 20 kWh and a range of about 85 miles (136km) it averages 147 Wh/km which is just about the same as a Tesla model 3, that 4000 pound car you keep referring to. I'm all about lighter, smaller and more efficient vehicles but at the moment it is only lighter and smaller. I really hope some day a vehicle like this will be designed around efficiency instead of (or in combination with) fun. It looks fun though!

Efficiency is not measured by battery capacity and max range. Tesla cars have high battery capacity but less efficiency (consumed energy per meter) than Arcimoto.
@rosserobertolli
@rosserobertolli 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReeseL4D The efficiency IS calculated by battery capacity (consumed energy) over range (the per meter part)! Their website promises a 100 miles city range, 66 miles at 55mph and only 32 miles at 32 miles. So my guesstimate of combined range at 85 miles (136km) is quite generous. With a battery pack of 20kWh (see description of video) it results in 147 Wh/km (20000Wh/136km). The standard tesla model 3 consumes 151 Wh/km (ev-database) and they are therefore practically the same. So for a much smaller and lighter vehicle I'd say it's the opposite of ultra efficiency. They use a miles per gallon figure to hide this but electricity doesn't come in gallons so you can use any conversion factor you like

@@rosserobertolli You are absolutely wrong!! In electric cars, efficiency has nothing to do battery capacity! In gasoline cars, efficiency has nothing to do with gas tank size! Vehicle range is not some number on a website. Many factors affect range. Wind, passenger/cargo weight, uphill/downhill, speed, .... affect vehicle range. You assume the arcimoto starts with 20 kWhr of energy and ends with 0 KWhr, which is absolutely a wrong assumption!! You assume the same thing for Tesla!! Gasoline cars do not start with full tanks and end with empty tanks!! Now Pay attention. The way to compare two vehicles, is to drive them under identical conditions. Connect a device to the battery. Measure power coming out from the battery. Drive 10 kilometers. Do not use the number (kwHr) written on the battery. Also, do not use road signs to measure 10 km. There is also battery charger efficiency (energy is lost when charging batteries).

But if you are still not convinced and still think the Acrimoto is much moe efficient then please enlighten me of the efficiency of the Arcimoto and that of the Tesla model 3 base model in the units you see fit (even joule per meter) incluiding your sources and I will happily agree with you if you are right.

I have an Easy Rider electric three wheeled disability scooter which is very similar but is not allowed on the road. Then there are dozens of similar trikes and small electric cars already in use. Piaggio of Italy is light years ahead in making this type of vehicle and is represented all over the world. The most sustainable designs are not suitable for extreme weather. Climate control is an energy intensive option for the materials needed, the battery power needed and the extra vehicle weight. Not a big deal - snowmobiles are not worthless designs just because they are useless on Florida. A decision to keep living in the north means a decision to use more than your fair share of resources. The results of this are so bad that you are seeing warmer weather that is changing what you need, what flora and fauna are around you and what you can grow

With all the solar generators on the market it would be interesting to see if Arcimoto could develop a plug that would allow you to take one of those generators along in a storage space and link to the main battery pack as a range booster, kind of like a belly tank on a fighter aircraft. Also, if power was out it might be a way to generate power for the Arcimoto in a power-out emergency. Great video. I hope Arcimoto won't be a stranger to Florida.
@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon 2 жыл бұрын
Florida is one of their biggest markets already. That's where mine is. The capacity for a portable solar battery power kit (not a generator as they falsely name it) has to be really large for the FUV. $1000 cost and might not fit in the trunk. 1500 watt capacity and capable of hours of charging means the kit would weigh 100 pounds and be very bulky. There is more interest in tapping EV batteries to run homes in a power outage. At least your fridge. There are several Arcimoto owners who set up camps and use a portable solar power system but these take days to fully recharge it.
@brucegraner5901
@brucegraner5901 2 жыл бұрын
@@popeyegordon I enjoyed your reply. I was just spitballing some ideas to modestly extend the range of the Arcimoto and give it extra utility. You're right about the solar generators. Basically they're heavy duty battery packs with a (slow) solar recharging option but there is their weight and size to consider. But they're set up for plug-and-play for the needs of most people. A very popular one says it's about the size and weight of a gallon jug of milk. How much extra range could that generate if there was a plug in the "boot" of the Arcimoto that would allow you to strap in your charged "solar" generator and feed the FUV's main battery system? What if it was just you using the vehicle and you had the delivery model but with a seat in the back (sliding door would have tinted windows) and you could strap in one of the much larger generators in the passenger seat if you wanted to take a 125-mile round-trip (mostly interstate) without stopping to recharge. Then, just take out the generator when you wanted to run around town with a friend in the back. What about the possibility of replacing the roof panels with solar panels? A little extra utility might mean a great deal more acceptance across the nation. The Arcimoto is an exciting idea. I just want to see it succeed. Most people probably won't consider an electric vehicle practical for any kind of day trip if the vehicle can't manage a useful recharge while they're having a sit-down lunch. Of course, there is always the beach-tourist rental market but I think the Arcimoto has much more potential than that.
@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon 2 жыл бұрын
@@brucegraner5901 Your intention is good but it would help if you look at the continuous wattage output ratings for those kits - a gallon sized one would immediately blow its fuse while trying to charge the 18KWH Arcimoto battery or anything bigger than an ebike battery. A larger [not really a ] 'generator' would just be the battery and inverter with no output from the panels while we are driving. Also the charge function requires the vehicle to be powered down. Before considering a 125 mile round trip we must ask ourselves if it is vital and why we won't use public transportation for that. We can justify the occasional camping trip but not daily commutes of that distance. This $2,900 popular brand can run a microwave oven for 45 minutes on its 1.5 WH battery capacity. It has the power to replace just 3% of power in the FUV battery. That's a lot of money for such a small EV charge but theoretically if that was all you used it for you could charge the battery half way with a week of sunshine. If you relied on it to get home you are risking being stranded if it breaks or if it is cloudy weather. www.amazon.com/Jackery-Generator-SolarSaga-Overlanding-Emergency/dp/B08Z3FRXW4/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3LPE2DNZHTX3X&keywords=1500+watt+solar+generator&qid=1659550841&sprefix=1500+watt+solar+generator%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-4&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.a35299f9-b208-4220-b44f-8302ea287e63

Much better than cars but going starbucks to buy a coffee is also stupid, you should stop it first :D

I've been watching them for several years and hope they can get their production ramped up much faster than the current 6 FUV's a day, which is not going to make much of a dent....

I don't go to Starbucks... Anyway, where I go, I prefer to use something prettier, more practical, and really environmental friendly: a bicycle.

The amount of carbon footprint just to make a new 1000lb+ vehicle of any type is huge. Give me a bike or a 20+yo car,

@@whaterfoo False equivalency. The valid comparison for carbon footprint is not between bikes and the 1300 pound emissions free Arcimoto, it is between the Arcimoto and a 7000 pound Tesla or an overpowered redneck pickup truck. I have been a hard core bike rider/commuter for a decade before retirement and now a decade after I have been driving the 160 pound solar/pedal hybrid Organic Transit car-bike. I have no excuse to burn gas when I have the time to bike for errands. *BUT AGE IS A VALID FACTOR* As I age it gets harder to pedal a trike or balance a bike or scooter. Using ebikes saved me over $30,000 compared to driving a used car. I spent that cash on an Arcimoto. Now I can handle the aging factors and still have lots of fun safely here in Florida, the most dangerous state for bicycles or motorcycles. The average age of an FUV buyer is over 55.

Great for geographically expansive cities with lower walkability scores. This also works in suburbs. I see some proper saying it wouldn’t work where they live but it would work where a majority of people live. A higher populous of people live in denser suburbs and cities than in extremely rural areas. We have cities and populated states with more people in them than states like North Dakota or Kansas. And it still would work in those places to be honest just not year round. I see more and more Mokes in my neighborhood and I don’t live in a gated community or in a golf course community. My hometown is a normal coastal New England town and I see Mokes everywhere now. So any new transportation is good. You can still have a car but often when you are running around you don’t need to drive a Yukon or huge SUV just to do some simple errands or going to a friends etc.
