I don’t know this lady. But I want to make a few guesses: 1. This lady should have received a college education in the United Kingdom or the United States, which made her very pro-western. 2. Through the lady’s hair color and dress, I think she should aspire to be a white, not a dark-skinned Indian.

@@manofsan He remains as unbiased as possible throughout, and as he said, he does not let emotions take hold of him so he does not confine himself within the mindset of a single nationality, so calling him a traitor shows how hostile you are to change or even a different perspective. You miss the point, just because he criticises India does not mean he supports China, and vice versa. He does not say China is a successful nation, he only uses the development of China as an example in order to emphasise the problems in India. In fact, he only mentioned China because it was instigated by the lady who was interviewing him. This video isn't about China, it never was. Its entire message was to encourage Indians to give up a sense of self-worth and open up relations and see that anti-Chinese sentiment is only hurting the free market economy in India, and gave example of countries that benefited through cooperation with their enemies, like Vietnam, in which he specifically says that India should take advantage of China like how China took advantage of the large American market. You are falling for the same fatal error as the one Kishore suggests, you are so focused on defending the negatives that in the end you won't want to change existing issues.

@@manofsan There is your first mistake, assuming he supports China. No no no, he is criticising India. Every country receives criticism. If this was another video to show how India is growing with double digit growth rate, then it serves no purpose. That doesn't benefit anyone, that doesn't teach anyone anything. If you didn't want to hear criticism, didn't want to learn anything , then why did you go click on this video? There are plenty of videos talking about the good in India. This is merely a video talking about the aspects that need improvement, it's a shame these videos aren't more common. A countries success has a direct correlation with the amount of criticism it receives. The more powerful a country is, the more countries that hate it and criticise it

I respect Kishore's knowledge and wisdom and admire his maturity in handling this this unprofessional and annoying interviewer. What prevents India and China from fostering warm and very cordial relations...on both sides? In India the bureaucracy is the suspect which is scared of loosing the power and grip on politicians and the country. Politicians rely on them heavily at all levels for critical information because most of them are not smart enough to comprehend policy papers or even file briefings. PM Modi tried to change it but quickly gave up. In China, it may be the generals who dream of their country as another policeman enforcing its will and power across the world since PLA controls virtually everything in its soil. In India the "babus" fear loosing their relevance if India upgrades its crumbling third world infrastructure and emerge as an economic/military superpower with China's help. China's economic transformation in a short span of time is unprecedented in the recorded history of mankind. There is no reason to suspect that India cannot replicate China's economic miracle in may be even a shorter time span.

I don’t know this lady. But I want to make a few guesses: 1. This lady should have received a college education in the United Kingdom or the United States, which made her very pro-western. 2. Through the lady’s hair color and dress, I think she should aspire to be a white, not a dark-skinned Indian.

@@wunhonglee8952, you're correct. In late 1970's, Xiaoping visited Spore, Japan, n Korea. (later visited US). He saw for himself the economic prosperity of these Asian nations. Japan n S.Korea are close to US so instead he asked LKY of Spore what was his secret that made Spore very successful. How did a very small country like Spore become one of the top developed countries in the world? Foreign investment, said LKY. Spore has no minerals to sell, no oil, no major agricultural products, nothing. Just hardworking n educated workforce. Foreign investment promote economic development with favorable tax policies n free trade incentives. When TXP returned to China, he was very careful not to make drastic changes bcos there were strong resistance from the old Chinese Communist top leaders. He had to devise a slow n steady change and revamp the Chinese Communist thinking. That's how the "black cat" economic slogan was born. He must also test the economic theory so that big mistake like what Mao did will not happen again. That's why he chose Shenzhen as an economic corridor bcos it was near HK n near the coast for port development. If he failed, the pain will be confined to Shenzhen only, not the whole of China. It is like taking a small sample of the food to test it, make sure it is good to eat b4 you start eating everything. The rest is history - it doesn't matter if it is a black cat or white cat as long as it catches the mouse 😀😉. He also slowly reformed the political system, moving closer to Socialism with Chinese culture as a central theme. Slowly the Chinese population enjoy unprecedented freedom n a disciplined educated workforce like Spore. Spore provided the economic model but it was tweaked and remodeled by Xiaoping to fit China's model. LKY was a lawyer trained in UK. TXP was trained in France. Both were very pragmatic. I'm pretty sure TXP grapple with this question: Is the political system determine the economic structure of a country? Or the economic structure determines the political system of a country? In the US, it has shifted. It appears the economic structure determines the political system of US. Why? Mega corporations control politics using economic power. BTW, I'm not fr China. China became the 2nd largest economy in the world within 30 - 40 yrs. No country in the human history has ever developed at such a phenomenal speed. The US became independent in 1776, n after WWII in 1945, 169 yrs later became the largest economy in the world. By 2050, China will pass the US economy. TXP would never dream that China's economic miracle is so fast at geometric progression bcos he has no idea about geometric progression speed in technological advancement. 6:01 Mahbubani: "9 of the SEA countries have Indic culture." In point of fact, ancient relics of Indian empires have been unearthed in Malaysia which long long predate the arrival of the self-proclaimed "sons of the soil" Malay majority ethnic group to present-day Malaysia. So Mahbubani is spot on. That entire landmass stretching from Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam to the north all the way down south to Singapore is not known in geography books as Indochina for no reason. It harks to the historical influence of the two civilisations in this part of the world.

Why and what does she meant by cheap Chinese products in India? Not most Indian in India afford to buy expensive branded product like her. Surely she's rich and never give a thought fot those that are poor that can't afford expensive goods. Indian products is rarely seen, in this part of the world, certainly would love to find them. Even here rich Indians goes to dollar store to buy Chinese products. Total respect for Kishore Mahbuhani. Bought his book, good read 👍👍

However, the host of the show seems either lacks of up-today experiences, bias or is completely ignorant, ashamed of being part of the public. 😓😓Everyone knows we are still a poor country. every day we talking about china. but nothing do anything. look Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, and hong kong cities. these are another world like usa. first, we need to develop our country economy. China is a powerful country after usa now. we cannot fight with china's economy, technology, and military power. this is the reality if we like or not.🙁 china gdp -$15.2 trillion(2020) indian gdp -$2.6 trillion(2020)😑 India and China had the same GDP and GDP per capita in 1950, today China's GDP is more than five, six times that of India. we are both the same population.🤷‍♀️ china gdp per capita -$10,261 (2019) india gdp per capita -$2104 (2019)😑 we cannot develop our country using media. media is media. Bangladesh gdp per capita is better than us.😡 But we always thinking fight with china. we are not the same level. this is the reality if we like or not. Am i wrong.🤷‍♀️

I’m a Malaysian Chinese working in an MNC in Singapore. Throughout my growing life in Malaysia and working exposure in Singapore, I encountered many Chinese and Indians from Malaysia, Singapore and India. I believe if we can put aside nationalism and ethnicity, and share common goals, we can achieve many great things together. Geopolitics is complex, very complex for ordinary people like us. But Mr. Kishore said it right, focus on growing the economy first. The border issue will not go away anytime soon. To keep harping on this and miss out on other opportunities, it’s short-sighted and put India on greater disadvantage in future. I truly believe that prosperity for entire Asia is much better than just for a single country.

No the main mistake of Indians is not to see China as competitor but to see China as evil. That’s the black and white mindset Indians inherited from the west. If China were seen as a competitor Indians know how to negotiate and compete. But when you see China as evil there can be no negotiation.

By rebuilding trust means rebuilding political dialogue about strategic issues, even there won't be any result coming out of it. Arguing about facts will never solve the issue, because you will always have tow different facts from both sides against each other. The real question is whether India and china have the political will to talk and make progress dealing with the border issues.

Mr Kishore seems to overlooked 2 crucial points-- 1. The Vietnamese reaction if china has amassed 50000 troops with heavy artillery, missiles on the mainland Vietnamese border and not patrol boats at an island. 2. Most India FTA's with SE Asian countries are not in favour of India due to customs hurdles by these countries and non opening of services sector to India software professionals by ASEAN....the less said about the interrupting journalist, the better. Would love to have his analysis on these 2 points. 👍

My salutation to Prof Kishore for his wisdom and inspiring thoughts. His opinions were the result of very long, painstaking observations and research into the geopolitical situations around the world. He uses his thinking cap very wisely and applied excellent vultures. As for the interviewer it clearly reflected how ignorance and lack of wisdom. She simply applied and mirrored what the Western biased media reported and jump to conclusions without intelligent. Hence the unfortunate destruction was that most average Indians took her unintelligent narratives as truth on China and form backward and untrue opinions that resulted tensions and faceoff on a 4000 years friendship. Mr Kishore has clearly shared one very intelligent points here, there were much more dimensions on the relationship rather than just focus on one dimension of border issue. Moreover he has especially pointed out Modi's statement that no territory of India was occupied by China. Perhaps she should relearn her incorrect beliefs on China and come back to educate the world and India particularly the truth about how China is always ever ready to be mutually beneficial partners for another 4000 years. Best wishes to both of them. May you be in good health and happiness.

I read a few of the bad reviews of this interview. But generally the seemingly bad review is actually not that bad, in fact its enlightening particularly for many Indians, if they truly look at Kishore's answer in correct perspectives: 1. That Indian-China border is an old issue, but will never go away. 2. That Indian, knowing that this issue will never go away, should at the same time, learn to live with it but to move forward and to engage China in a positive way, and to grow Indian Economy as an ultimate aim. 3. Kishore used the term ' creative destruction' on Indian economy status quo just once, but its an important step for the long term good. He should elaborate this more so that the Indian populace can understand the term better. To me it could mean that opening up Indian economy will initially cause some shake-up in the normal Indian industries (or probably sees many many Chinese products will flood the market), but the subsequent new replacement indian industries will be able to compete with the world better. Effectively leads to a better and bigger future economy than the status quo. 4. 'Don't be emotionial'= means do not just look at the recent border event and stopped the important step to engage China which is very important for Indian economy in long term, whether you like it or not. 5. Kishore hinted strongly that all border issue, the quad engagement to go against China, and American's involvement in South China Sea are just geopolitical play, ie. American self interest as primary objective. NOT because American loves India. That was one of the issue why when the interviewer interrupted Kishore so many times with various questions, most are just the same answer.
