Prof mahbubani has been right for years and even he is shocked by the hostility of the usa’s politicians towards China simply because China will be surpassing the usa in all aspects. The usa cannot stop the development of China or even slow it down. The best strategy is to cooperate. The EU too must take a firm course towards cooperation with China instead of zigzagging like a ship without a rudder which only makes the EU looks leaderless and weak.

It is no USA vs China, but more likely East vs West. The point is the West can not accept the reality that the East is developing fast & would likely overthrow them. The superior mentality of the anglosaxons over asians have developed for centuries, in form of imperalism and colonization. EU will always be on US side because they also develop the same white superiority attitude towards asians. And it is also the reason why the US & EU are working together to stifle the development in this region by any means, incld color revolutions, regime change, etc. Of course, their main focus is China because China is the key to the development of the whole region in Asia.

West and East get along fine and have for years. It's the CCP that can't live alongside other ideologies. I.E. Taiwan. When your goal is all-encompassing power, counter narratives are a problem. You do realize that not only have the Taiwanese people been able to control their own affairs for over 30 years, but make on average 3x what a CCP citizen does. You're projecting. Since >40 years China has been making so much peaceful economical and political progress. Instead of following the western consensus and their wishes, like what happened in Soviet Union, Chinese found their own way to their success in all different aspects. Now it is not the time or too late for the westerners to bargain, argue and decide whether they could accept or contain/isolate China, rather how to embrace and cooperate with China. Like or not, China would continue to grow and soon become the no.1 superpower in the world because the reality has been proved that Chinese system is better than those in the west. That would be western another increasing anxiety and frustration. Instead of accusing and embarrassing China, or lecturing Chinese how to do, now it is the time for the western countries to not only beg the Chinese for the help in their western economical decline, like their broken infrastructure, but also learn from China how to peacefully respect and live with each other, instead of “winner takes all”.

Four years is too short a term. A second term often results in adopting popular policy aimed at winning the next election. This outcome produces politicians who are more self serving than the people who voted them. What the country needed are leaders who will take it to next level of development. Experience has shown frequent changes of government often retard economic progression. Economies with strong leadership for a sustained period appears to have performed better because of continuity of policies. Perhaps we should be looking at one term only but the period be extended to say 6 to 10 years. This would allow time for any policy to yield the intended outcome and valuable time n efforts saved on vote buying activities. Also, voters or the common people must hold their leaders accountable for all the decisions taken during their charge. Above all, voters themselves must be politically matured to ensure that only proven, competent leaders are voted into Office.

Prof Mahbubani is most impressive and knowledgeable. After listening to podcasts and the prof's various vlogs, it occurred to me that the Europeans are the masters of imperialism. Like they say, a leopard cannot change its spots. After-all, the European countries, like Britain, France, Portugal, Germany etc. were the colonizers of the world before WW2. In fact, it was the US that curtailed their colonizing ways after WW2. And got used to the power they wielded and became hegemonic.

The U.S. is not a colonizer! Please read its history. America itself is a settler-colonial. They exterminated the original inhabitants and are still occupying it. Just read the American history when U.S. fought wars and occupied colonized in an indirect way. The modus operndi is to install corrupt dictators, kings, politicians who sell the interest of their country for gains in wealth, power, prestige, etc. But America did occupy the Philippines and ruled for many decades. It is still doing in Puerto Rico. Just count the number of wars it launched.

Assuming the way CCP rule Chinese is correct, would you like to live in such country just like the majority of Chinese did ? Would you like your descentants to live in such country throughout their life ? Obviously, the answer is NO for most of successful Chinese so the first thing they are desperate to get after becoming successful and rich is a foreign passport. In the long term, such mentality among the elites is harmful to the long term growth of China economy as there won't be any accumulation of capital, know-how and whatsoever as smart and seasoned talents all want to leave China as long as they can afford to have a foreign passport. However, we didn't see that happening in the US or any other developed countries. That's why this world is always skeptical to how CCP manage Chinese people. Even from a humanity perspective, what makes you think 1.4 billions Chinese should put up with such system without other alternatives ? Don't you think it's so unfair to all of Chinese people ?
