I agree, there are plenty of relatively accessible tools (CAD, CNC, etc) now for people to build exceptional replicas. It just depends on how far you're willing to go.

That Mercedes, dubbed the ELK GTR - he never meant for it to be exact. I asked during the build is he doing half doors like the Lemans Racer. He said no as he wanted it to be practical to get in & out of. As for the engine... it will be midmounted and easy (to him anyway) to do. His C11 race car build is proof of that. 😎

He is definitely catching some criticism for not building it as close as it could be but like you said it seemed to be an intentional choice. I can't wait to see that thing run and drive with the V12.
