My grandmother hated fighting, always wanted everyone to get along, was a great cook (even though she kept saying her own mom was much better), very sweet and she had a level of respect from me that no one can match. So apparently this place closed in August 2016, and the reason given was that they retired and wanted to spend more time with family. Hopefully that's true, as it means they didn't go out of business thanks to poor management and money issues, and since they'd all be seniors at that point it's more understandable as well.

Well the father passed away in 2014. By 2016 Nino was 64 years old (the episode was filmed in 2012, aired in 2013). They sold the place in 2017 according to their own inactive as of dec 2018 facebook page. It is actually pretty reasonable considering Michael got out of the restaurant, Carina had another job and Inge being as old as she is. Apparently there are no grand children to take over.

Sure, they get a makeover in exchange for being the subject of a scripted reality TV show. Ultimately, though, they were entrusting the business to a 60 year old man who, regardless of his willingness and ability, was close to retirement himself. It wasn't a sustainable model and the restaurant closed in 2016. A restaurant lasting almost 60 years is impressive but you can't expect your children to continue running your restaurant if that clearly isn't their calling. They should have sold it off long ago and each person gone their own separate way. Running a legitimate restaurant is a tough life and you have to really want that for it to have a chance to be successful.I know it's a show and presented as entertainment but in these types of family owned restaurants it would have been more appropriate to say 'basta' once they knew that the drive and skill to maintain it wasn't there.

Inge is a truly admirable woman; doing everything within her power to keep her business afloat, caring for her husband with dementia, literally digging into her retirement savings because she loves her husband so much that she doesn't want his hard work going to waste. The poor woman is running herself into the ground.
