Thank you so much especially for the Technical Service Pointer information. Mine is less than 3 years old and they are going to replace them for free!! So disappointed that our local dealer didn’t have this information and they were scheduling me for repair to the tune of $1500 for five bulbs that were out. We actually did order and replace one from Amazon that made all four freezer lights and one refrigerator light to come back on although they seem to not be as bright. Thank you again. This is the best Christmas gift!

Life Saver! Had one out in my freezer and then the rest all went into dim-mode. Called Kitchen Aid and they are coming to replace the modules. Saved me some money (even though I did buy a new module on Amazon), ill have a backup! Cheers!

Your video was most helpful and greatly appreciated. We did contact Kitchen Aid as you suggested in your transcript. They sent someone out to replace the lights but in our case the new lights are dim and our original lights are the ones with the 3 LED lights so now our refrigerator is quite dim. Oh well, not sure what our next step will be. Probably contact Kitchen Aid again.

Thanks for watching and for the kind words! If I were you, and my Task Assigner being who she is, there's no way we would let them remove the bright ones and replace with dim ones. The single LED modules previously in our fridge were the ones that were failing all the time, why would they install those?? We would call KitchenAid back and make them install the three LED modules, the newest ones. We haven't had a single one of those go out (fingers crossed).

Thank you for posting this! We have had our lights go out at least 3 times since we bought our fridge in 2019. It was under warranty with the store, but that has since run out. I contacted Kitchen Aid today and we are on the list you provided a link to so they are coming out to repair/replace the lights in 2 days. Thanks again!

I have the same situation with an identical fridge and KA support did not mention anything when I called them for advice.. However, when I called them back and mentioned the TSP you included in the link, they recognized the issue and scheduled a service repair including parts and labor. Follow up: the service tech hot swapped the leds and burnt up the led control board…. Got it fixed and running.

LED lights in this built-in KitchenAid fridge are the most disappointing! Had it for 6 months and the freezer string of lights went out (but the fridge side kept working). Then another 2-3 months went by and the fridge side off lights went out! Called the service repair guy and he replaced both under warranty. Then just after the 2 years mark both string of LED lights went out again and we’ve been in the dark ever since. Will try this DIY repair and hope it does the trick🤞🏽

Good luck! Just a couple weeks ago a second light went out on me; the top of the freezer, behind the ice maker. Talk about a bear; there's no room to work up there with the ice maker in the way! Afterward, I spoke with a neighbor about it and he said he had the same one go out and they had a repair tech come out. First, the "technician" didn't know there was a light behind the icemaker, so he unnecessarily replaced a system board. Then he called KitchenAid Service and they asked him if he'd checked all the lights including the one behind the ice maker, which is when he realized his error. Then he did what I should have done - remove the icemaker to get it out of my way!! Well, if that one goes out again at least I'll have that info in my pocket for next time.

This is great. I just ordered the 12 replacement LEDs from Kitchenaid because my fridge is out of warranty and supposedly out of that technical replacement period. My question to you: you mentioned you liked the new modules better. I was going to replace one at a time to fix the series but should I just do all 12? I've already replaced 2 a few years ago. Thanks for watching! I could see pros and cons to both approaches, but if it was me, I would probably lean toward replacing them one at a time to get as much life out of the original modules as possible. Yeah, that could mean you're dealing with the hassle one light at a time and would need to keep track of which ones you replaced, but maybe some of them will last longer? You could do the remaining ten all at once and reduce the hassle but then you're tossing out the working ones. So ... thrifty, or fewer times messing with it?

I have the same issue with my lights, however my refrigerator temperature light that's located inside the refrigerator at the top keeps blinking and it will not let me set the temperature only the freezer light works. I did replace the electronic control board but that didn't fix my lights nor the blinking temp light issue. Any suggestions that can help me out . Thanks

@@hangtime_31 just completed the repair and all the lights brightened except the one above the one we replaced. It went completely out and the freezer lamps are all dim. Looking over the replacement before putting it in helped me to figure out where to press on the damaged light to get it out. My son can have the satisfaction of fixing the next one.

Hey there! Thank you so much for this! Our fridge came with the house and it's still nice with a few issues. I was able to replace all 6 side lights in our Kitchenaid built-in (like yours). I have a couple problems Im still trying to fix: - First: While the side lights work, I also replaced the two in the "ceiling" under the display module...but they still don't work. - Second: While the lights come on when I open the Left door, they do not when I open the right door. Can you help me DIY this? THANK YOU!

Hi, thanks for watching! Beyond what you've done, the only thing I would suggest is to open up the description for this video and read the info I added a few months after I posted it. Check out the service info from KitchenAid and if your model is on their bulletin, give them a call and maybe they will send someone out to fix all the lights with upgraded modules for free like mine. If I would have known about it before I did my DIY, it's pretty likely this video wouldn't have happened, but hey, it's fun to try to help others when you can, amirite? Cheers!

Of my 6 lights only 4 were completely out - the other two were dimly on. I replaced the 4 lights that were out thinking this would fix the problem but now all 6 of the lights are dim… any idea what my problem could be?

I was pretty lucky in my case I suppose, only one at a time went out. In your case, I would continue to troubleshoot, perhaps move one of the new ones over to the other two lights that were dim, one at a time. If none of that works, there's a control module that could be the culprit. Did you see the note in the description about calling KitchenAid and asking them about their Technical Service Pointer bulletin? You might get lucky.

Ah, okay, thank you. Two of our neighbors experienced light failures in the past month and called in on that service pointer and KitchenAid told both of them they were out of luck, their units were too old. One of them closed on their home with new fridge in November of 2017, the other in December of 2017. Apparently that bulletin won't last forever.

Seems these are wired like the old Christmas tree light, when one goes out the other ones in the line go out as well? First time has the same light go out and replaced it no problem. But now a few months later all of the ceiling lights are out in the fridge and all of the freezer drawer lights are out. I’ve replaced three and they still won’t turn on. ..?!

Hi Fred! In my model, there are indeed two strings with six lights on each string; the five in the freezer plus one in the fridge, then the remaining six in the fridge are on the other string. When one light went out, the other five on that string went out as well. In my case, tracking down the offending light had to be done fast. When I'd open the door, the lights on the "bad" string would do this dim flashing or flickering routine and then after maybe ten seconds they would all just go out. I'd shut the door and open it and it would do it again. The trick was to find the one that wouldn't flicker - it was dead from the time I opened the door. That was the culprit. I don't have any lights in the freezer drawers though, so maybe you have a different model?

Any one experience disco flickering effect? Half of the fridge is flickering and is giving the family a headache when we open the door.

Mine flickered when a module was going bad. Eventually when it gave up and died, it would take down the rest of the string, which is half of all the modules.

Hi, thanks for watching! If they are all out it's probably a different problem, maybe a circuit board. I'm not a service tech, just a homeowner who likes to tackle as many DIY projects as I can and pass along what I learned and what worked for me. In your case you're going to need either someone who's had this problem and fixed it - or a service technician, I would imagine.

Hi Fred! Yes that's definitely a different model refrigerator than the one I have. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I do think it's funny that in these repair videos everybody says to turn off the power and then they proceed to do the repair without bothering to turn the power off themselves. It is actually kind of silly to turn off the power because the way those plugs are designed it's not as if you would even be capable of shorting out the lighting harness.

Hi Kari, thanks for watching. I suppose they could be considered similar to Christmas lights but in this case the "master" light would be the bad one that takes the rest of the string down with it. On mine, there are six lights to a string, and five would be dim and the sixth would be completely out. That one was the culprit. Before you go further though, I have updated info in the video description, some things I learned after I posted the video. In there is a service bulletin and I suggest you call KitchenAid and refer to it by number to them, maybe they will take care of it for you under warranty even though technically the warranty is expired. Our fridge was almost five years old and they came out and replaced all twelve lights in the fridge with newer, nicer ones - for free. 👍 And if they won't, well, at least you tried and then maybe this video will still help you out. I called KitchenAid Service at 800-422-1230 ... and it wouldn't hurt to mention "Technical Service Pointer W11606409" to them. In fact if you google that, you can read it for yourself and confirm your serial number is on the list. My fridge was almost five years old and like I said, I didn't pay anything.
