The subject of Alan's father is hilarious when you actually look into it. Abe Saffron, his father, was considered as one of the most malicious Australian criminals, who ran prostitution rings and smuggled illegal goods. He finally got convicted for tax evasion in the 80s, but many suspect that he was involved in other fun things (such as a disappearance and an arson attack). The only legal thing that he was known for was his nightclubs, but even those were quite shady.

Denial is an incredibly powerful state of mind, it is terrifyingly simple in that it is simple rooted in ego. No reason, rationalized threat or consequence. Many people can’t accept they are wrong, especially parents - they see their good as all encompassing their child’s. Having said that the producers will coax out or set up people’s responses, again it’s incredibly easy to get a response from someone when a stick a camera in their face and ask the right set of questions.

Though it doesn't answer how he served raw burger twice though. He could argue he has no love for serving someone else's recipe but can be more passionate & caring with his own food. However he even cooks his own burger wrong, note Gordon confirm it was medium not medium rare & most of those coming back on the eve are because they aren't cooked right. I expect that burger he made himself was pretty meh but it suited the show narrative for it to be a "9/10"

@@justkarmabehindyourdoor7117 He did. His father was a big crime boss in Australia, often named one of the most if not THE most influential person in organized crime to the point where his worth was valued up to $140 million. When he died, he left his last mistress a lifetime annuity of $1000/week as well as a few apartments and a daughter from a former mistress was to receive the same amount in annuity as well as propriety. He left his grandchildren (5 of which are Alan's) $1 million EACH. What did Alan get? $500k. There was definitely a rift between them and something must have happened as to why he left that daughter with a lifetime of monetary support AND apartments but his son with "only" 500k bucks. But I would take everything that Alan wrote in his book with a grain of salt, at this point I'm sure that one of the reasons he wrote it was rather out of spite because he didn't inherit as much money as the others more than just to expose the abuse and crimes of his father.

I'm an Australian and I can honestly say that meat pie looks nothing like what we call a meat pie here. First of all it's crispy and flaky pastry with generally beef accompanied by a dark gravy inside of the pastry. It's never like that not in anyway shape or form and I highly recommend trying a meat pie if you are ever in my country.
