In light wind, I prefer jibes with downloops because it keeps the tension on the lines.

Gybe is next big step after being able to remain on the board, it's impressive with kitefoiling how you go through all the steps of progression you thought were behind you in twintip...back to school is a humbling experience ;-) Your videos are of value, keep up to good work ! thanks

Interestingly, I learned tacks first... then jibes. My breakthrough for jibes came when I WASN'T going downwind at all... even going upwind.... which helped me learn the hang on the kite more. As I have progressed, I don't need to go upwind anymore... but for learning, doing the footwork while going upwind and well powered made the difference for me.

633 is a game changer for most riders when learning foiling foot switches. I find that engaging the rear heel quickly as you down loop the kite immediately after foot switch is helpful.

Nice video guide. I’ve been working on my gybes with the 637 race wing after spending time on the 683 (similar to your 633). That little bump from the back foot and maintaining your center of gravity becomes MUCH more important at speed on a fast and twitchy race foil. I strongly suggest everyone progressing with foil maneuvers start with the big surf wing like you’ve done here 🤙🏼
@jameskewley31633 жыл бұрын
Yes, in my experience learning to footchange the key ingredient is maintaining a stable centre of gravity - keep your upper body as still and upright as possible and let the feet do the work. JK

I switched to a seat harness two sessions ago, pinched it out of my mates loft and I immediately felt far more steady against the pull of the kite as I can "hold down" more power. My toe-side riding improved immediately and I'm no longer going for jibes as I can just lazy-boy on toe-side. What I do need to do is stop being a big girls blouse and down-loop the kite while on the foil, self-preservation has issues with down-looping, which is a fancy way of saying "I'm Chicken". Keep on Trucking.

Everything you just stated is my FOILING LIFE! I'm such a chicken. Thanks for the comment.

seat-harness so much more confy, no need to make it supertight to prevent sliding up your chest. i think chest-harness hype has a lot to do with fashion, with looks. and maybe yes, in those super-manouvers 5% of us kiters perform, it's better ;)

Great video. Little above my skill level. I’m hoping for any instruction on jumping with a twin tip. I’ve been riding for six years and if don’t get consistent high jumps and landings I think I’ll get bored and quit.

Jon, there are a lot of small goals in this sport to keep our interest up. This is what I love so much about kite sports. I’m probably not the best person to put up a jump video considering my high jumps are only in the 20’s myself. Thanks for the feedback.
@jondeur26865 жыл бұрын
The OK Kiteboarder Thanks for the reply. You’re right about the small goals. Still, knowing myself, if I don’t learn to jump more consistently I will get bored. Your 25 footers are great if you do it consistently and land them. If you can help with consistency a lot of us would be helped.

Jon Deur look up Anton Chernysov’s Learning to Fly videos 1 and 2. Those videos got me from jumping 20-25’ tops, to now 45-50’. His videos really explain what you need to do to jump high and land soft.

My problem is visualising how I can translate this to my local beach. Its hard to understand without the context of seeing the kite in sky and understanding the wind direction. As good as this is, there has to be some technical improvement in these kind of instructional videos, otherwise people like me will never have the confidence to progress to trying this.
@TheOKKiteboarder5 жыл бұрын
Paul, I hear ya’. Some more drone footage would’ve been good in this episode, but it didn’t happen. Foil kites and LEIs will be a little different in flying for this maneuver and there are so many variables that can work successfully between board and kite, angles, tension, etc. The only way to get an understanding is to just “give it a go” then some of the particulars will make more sense. For the record, I was scared to death of this in the spring and now I do it without really thinking. It will happen with repetition. Best of luck. Don’t quit!

Sweet tips! What's the wind speed and kite size in the video? I find that looping my 15 sonic2 in anything above 10kn on a medium size wing accelerates me downwind so much I can barely hold on
@TheOKKiteboarder5 жыл бұрын
Completely agree Archie. That was why I put the clip of the frontboard riders surfing. These conditions with my 12m were 12-14mph on the Soul. The 633 wing is so tough to limit in loft coming out of the downloop. I’m working on a project with the delta hydrofoil system for just a front wing interchangeable system to consist of a wing that has a lot of lift (not quite as much as the 633) but still substantial and still holds well out of the transition with some speed and then being able to just switch the front wing when you want to foil in the low 20’s mph. Not as much lift on the faster foil, but just trade out when you’re wanting to work on transitions or riding with more speed and condition dependent. I still think this has to be the direction for performance carbon foils to make it budget conscious for us.
@archiekras66685 жыл бұрын
@@TheOKKiteboarder You have to check out shinn K! P works great in light winds or learning while K is a bit faster. Same mast/fuselage and stabiliser, just swap out the front wing
