Over the past few months I've watched almost every video on Tacking. After watching your video, I went out for a session and it immediately clicked. After completing my 3 tack in a row, I was so shocked with my immediate success that I fell in wondering what had just happened. Suffice to say you nailed it and commend you for producing such a great video. See you on the water!!!

@@TheOKKiteboarder Hi there. Feedback: switch to tack to regular out...success!!!!! Yeeeeeesssss!!!! The thing that did it for me was: the front hand thing. Just get it out in front and concentrate on nothing else but fronthand, get my other hand on it...everything else just followed. Because I'm just concentrating on my front hand, I wasn't overloading my brain with: foot here, arm there, carve upwind, etc. Also, because I was only concentrating on one thing (not arms, feet, etc), it felt like everything slowed down. You got me there...stoked! Keep the videos up, great content. Next task: regular to tack to switch.

Hi. Excellent video. Thank you for making it. I’ve been kite foiling for a couple of years and today bought a big front wing, big wing board and wing. Ready to learn winging. But have to wait at least a week for wind conditions to improve. Regards.

The day before yesterday I tried to apply advices from this video and it helped me to progress a bit further, however, still without complete success. The most helpful advice was to focus more on bringing the wing with the leading hand to the upwind side and to focus less on carving. A few times I was able to turn the board, still foiling, but in the end, I turned it too much and didn't close the wing and stop turning. Tacking seems more achievable than before thanks to this video. I will post a new reply after I manage to get on the foil again (not sure if it will be soon).

@@TheOKKiteboarder Today I managed to foil my first two tacks, on my "better" side (goofy) 🥳 After the last one, I had one session with a lot of waves where I didn't try tacks at all, after that, there was one windsurfing session, and two wing foiling sessions (the day before yesterday and today). In the last session, I was trying to tack and once I was near: after the turn, I didn't press enough the nose of the board and the foil stalled. Today, the wind was great and I repeated a few "stalled" tacks. After that, the wind dropped a bit and I just went on jibing (to avoid waiting for a gust and to avoid constant cardio exercise). However, after some time, the wind grew stronger again and I tried to tack and (barely) managed to foil it - it almost stalled but with enough nose pressure and few pumps I was foiling in the other direction. The next one after that succeeded, a bit better and in the next one, I failed. The wind dropped again and I was back to jibing. There is still much to learn about tacking but now it seems like an achievable goal. Many thanks for this video - it helped me to break the barrier and start experimenting with tacks.

@TheOKKiteboarder
@TheOKKiteboarder 2 жыл бұрын
I helped consult on a brand “Lahoma” to try and get more affordable wing gear into the market. Decent product quality and a much lower entry price point. So far so good. Many people have taken advantage of that to learn and then gone on to higher performance gear made by other manufacturers.

@@TheOKKiteboarder Good on you! Looks like they make a bungy style leash (not coiled), curious if you have tried on as a wrist leash, I am not loving the coiled one I have been using.

Yes. I’ve tried the bungee but it’s all personal preference. The bungee hangs down in front more than the coiled does.

I’ve sold my Gong HIPE board and started working as a consultant on a new brand of inflatables, Lahoma Winds. I use it in a 5’1”, 75L and it’s no problem to tack. It has more nose rocker and a more forward track than the Gong inflatable.

your stance is odd, ever ride the board like a surf?
@TheOKKiteboarder
@TheOKKiteboarder 2 жыл бұрын
I’m used to riding a windsurf front strap setup on a foil. My back foot is offset and I find it advantageous for turning high aspect wings more efficiently. I also have a very narrow stance, but that is just preference. These positions definitely aid in ease with foot switching. It may hinder me if ever riding larger waves, but that’s not a real issue in Oklahoma 😀

@@TheOKKiteboarder I can see where it would help, seems to be more common with winging then with kiting. Maybe it is a lot of the wind surfers converting over. Thanks for the insight and also your instructional videos.
