There is nothing worse than going to relaunch your kite, only to find that you have a tangled or inverted line. In this video, we go through how you can keep your lines neat in between sessions, so that you know you can launch again without any issues when the time comes.

Hey Fluke. Just wanted to say I’ve appreciated all your videos. It’s great to have an Aussie voice showing us the way. It’s clear you love the sport and want others too as well. Your lessons are well thought out and easily understood ( except for the odd one where the wind in mic plays havoc. And your location always looks stunning too !! I hope you’re ok. I haven’t seen any new vids for a while. I have a question for you and I’m not sure whether you could help with some technical advice. I’ve noticed as soon as the wind gets on the stronger side for my kite size I have a lot of difficulty stabilizing the kite and often end up constantly sineing the kite unintentionally. Do I need to just focus more on what I’m doing or should I

Hey I totally love your videos! I'm really new to Kite surfing, so I've only ever gone out with an instructor before... I really want to go by myself but I'm not sure how to know what beach to go to or how to read the wind, I'd also really like to how some "kite surfing manners" like whats polite/impolite at crowded beaches. I just really want to learn how to be an independent kiter!

Hey Luke, earlier this year (June or July) I met you at Nitinat Lake and asked you if you could make a video about this topic. Really nice to have you explain and demonstrate how to do it. So thanks for this!

When I have a nice wide and empty beach like yours to rig I would walk downwind of the kite after it's secured, then do a quick visual check on all 4 lines before rolling up. Then when getting ready to launch I would lay out my lines directly downwind and then hook in and give it another visual check on all 4 lines and then walk to the side of the window for launching while hooked in.

Hey Angus, thanks for the comment it is a valuable one. For anyone reading, I agree, and what you are describing is certainly best practice. It gives the chance to check and ensure you have no crossed lines before attempting to launch, and also positions you in a potentially safer position for launching. It is also preferred if you are planning to self launch using the drag method as again, allows you to do a "pre flight check". All of that said, personally, i prefer the way i have shown, as I only roll up the bar when I am kiting in a busy locations (otherwise I would just place everything closer to the kite) where you certainly do not have room for the pre flight check etc... And in that situation, I find that staying upwind of the kite is best as it is visually easier to grasp and keep track of your bar, as placing your bar downwind (particularly close to the kite) can sometimes get mixed up in the slack of the lines, among the confusion of the bar "upside down" I have seen cause issues for people when trying to relaunch, so overall, I find this the most simple and method :) Thanks again. i always appreciate the insight

Very helpful, although i'm usually destroyed after an hour of holding ground and ready to pack up, go home and nap. Do you not use your sliding harness much now?

hahah! Sounds like you're kiting in a hard area! Actually still prefer the rope spreader, but my rope wore out, so need to get a new one. I am getting a new Ride engine harness, so you will see it on there for sure :)

Thanks for the videos - I have a random question, I noticed I own the same impact vest as yours. Do you find yours ride up and above your waist harness during a ride? It could just be my harness, but the neoprene on neoprene (if you're wearing a wetsuit), tends to make mine slip very easily. If you have the same problem, keen to know if you've got any tips?
