Sharon killing people in her youth doesn't directly do anything to make her a bad mother. Hiding bodies she thinks are Stan's victims to protect him technically makes her a good parent. Then again, I could be biased. I would have hated this episode if it were written to have her report Stan for crimes he didn't commit.

Sharon, Sheila Broflovski (post movie) and Linda Black are the only mother characters that seem to consistently have common sense and strong maternal instincts. this ofc isn't to say all of the moms in the show are irredeemable, these 3 are just the most competent at being parents out of all the other mother/parent characters imo

I'd say Laura Tucker is also a great mother, we don't see her being a mom often but she got some really good moments. Like when she immediately seeked help when Craig was sent to Peru or tried to change Thomas opinion about their son being gay. Nichole's mother is also awesome. She's quite similar to Tolkien's mother, very caring and supportive of whatever Nichole wants to do.

Sharon being the best mom, is kinda easy cuz her competition sucks. Butters mom tries to kill him, Cartmans mother enables his terrible behaviour. Kenny's mom turns a blind eye to her terrible abusive husband. Kyles mom is a pretty decent mother, even if she uptight compared to other mothers. Tweaks parents shove coffee down his gullet. Wendy's parents bought her breast implants in the fourth grade. Theres some terrible parenting happening in this town. And the other mothers arent really characters so we know almost nothing about them.

So I’ll defend Sharon with the Pox parties. Prior to the vaccine this was one of the best things you could do for your kid. Chicken pox is very uncomfortable for kids, but you usually only get it once and then you’re immune. However, if you don’t get it in your childhood and proceed to get it as an adult it can turn into shingles which is a lot more severe and a lot more deadly. She was making the choice to protect her kid in the long term by letting him suffer in the short term. This episode doesn’t make much sense anymore because of the vaccine which changed how we can best give people immunity.

Another great SP video- thanks! I'm 44 and was a kid in the early 80's. Chicken Pox parties were a pretty regular thing. It was the "go-to" to get your kids to get it and move on. It's funny, I may be immune. My my Grandma, mother and brother never got it and I've been exposed to it numerous times. I hope I'm immune anyway, I've heard getting it as an adult can be deadly.

I gotta say in terms of the murder in the halloween episode, I wouldn't believe a fish did it. Also she's an awesome mum for doing her best to protect her son and being there for him 'after doing something terrible'. Also the school shooting ep is a perfect example that could explain half the terrible stuff she does. Everyone in South Park is crazy and no matter what she can't do or say anything to change it.

Back in the begining, they had no idea the show would last past 3 seasons. Some character development suffered for this as originally in the early seasons most the time the parents were just slightly more present than parents in Charley Brown.

Sharon Marsh is probably the best of a bad hand. She's far from perfect, she's prone to emotional overreaction, etcetera, but she clearly cares about her children more than most. Especially the Spooky Fish episode where she was literally hiding corpses she believed Stan had killed. That doesn't make her a good person necessarily but she is clearly sincerely willing to go to great lengths to protect her children.
