Let's see how an exceedingly rare UK import Honda Accord Euro CN1 with an N22 2.2L Turbodiesel engine compares with my Accord Euro CL9 with a K24 2.4L N/A Petrol engine.
Excuse the wacky looking intercooler - the owner was travelling through wellington and needed a quick fix after the existing intercooler cracked.

Being a Honda/Acura owner for as long as I've been driving, I always wanted to experience what it feels like to have so much torque, but not a lot of power. Interestingly, Acura planned to offer the 2nd generation with a diesel (CU3), but pulled the plug last minute and replaced that option with the V6. The N22 in the CU3 (Type S version) made a significant jump in power and torque figures. Hope you get to test out one of those soon!

We got these engines in south africa in the civics fn1 shape , and the torque those things have is absolutely insane , tuned they destroy fn2s. We also got a higher output diesel with made I think 132kw and 500 nm in the cu2 accord. Those are so rare in south africa and only came in 6 speed manual. Fuel efficient as well . Goes as low as 4 litres on a long run . Stayed away because of the rarity, parts are very hard to find and they don't share anything in common with the petrol. Still a great car .

I have a 2.2 i-ctdi here in the UK. It has the 6 speed gearbox so around 2,000 revs when doing around 70 and over. Economical and nice torque making it my favourite car I've owned. Nice to see a comparison - my CN2 is a 2008, so facelift, going on 165000 miles ( so 266300 km ) Bought it at 162000 , great drive, my first experience with a Honda and with a diesel, having driven only two Peugeot 206's before. Going from tiny, high revving petrol cars to it was quite the jump. It's certainly prone to some issues - the Scottish weather probably doesn't help with corrosion though.. The power steering cooling line was corroded and holed on me while on the motorway! Then the clutch failed entirely, off with that to find the DMF was on its way out too. That, a failed injector, and awful buildup in the EGR and intake - I still need to get the intake off , but the egr was almost entirely blocked up. After cleaning it up though the car pulls beautifully up to redline, though the power band is certainly low down I found it was still pulling really well up to 4500. Alas with the age of the car it is having some fuel system pressure issues so booting it causes problems right now. The Premium sound system is great though - the gps seems good for the age, but the dvd I have is way out of date, 2006...last version is 2018! It's well sized, comfortable and handles brilliantly, though it's very much a wafty car most of the time. I hear with an EGR delete and a remap they really become monsters for torque and with very respectable power. Can't imagine the DMF lasts long though! The saving grave with them is the fuel economy - cruise control at 70mph (112kph), sitting at 65mpg (3.6l /100km) for 30 miles (48km) Then into the wind after almost throwing the car into limp mode by booting it repeatedly brought the average down to 56mpg (4.2l/km). same speed average and distance! Not unbeatable compared too modern cars, but when taking in the odd overtake ect, I really can't complain. Really want a shot of a CL9 now though! Petrol is always more fun... !

Looking for a reliable, good looking and fun-to-drive car, max 7.5k dollars, I got my eyes on a Honda Accord 2006 manual. The average price for a Honda Accord 2006 manual (in my area) is: diesel version - 6 157$ petrol version - 4 269$ I don't know whether to buy a petrol or a diesel car. Diesel costs 1.37 $/ L and petrol costs 1.41 $/ L. Also, the diesel cars in my market are cheaper than the petrol versions. My only concern with diesel cars is the reliability, I know that they brake more often and cost more to repair (they complain about clogged nozzles, DPF and more). So what should I choose for mixed driving (town and out of town, more out of town tho)? Which one will cost less to own for a year, two, three and so on (cheaper maintenance)?
