Hey guys! In this video I go over what happened to Nick Van Owen at the end of The Lost World: Jurassic Park! Now of course since we don't have any concrete answers on this subject matter it's more of a film theory that involves the Jurassic World Franchise. Nick's absence does make a kind of sense from a line he had earlier in the film: "Hammond's check cleared or I wouldn't be going on this wild goose chase." He had a very mercenary outlook and wouldn't risk another encounter with an apex predator. You can't spend your money if you're dead.

I actually came up with my own idea as to what happened to him, as soon as they got back to the mainland Nick went straight over to Hammonds mansion to give him all the photography and Dino research for him to start turning The island into the biological preserve he wanted, so it would make sense that he went straight to the mansion and Ian and Sarah went straight to the docs to try and stop Ludlow, which gives the explanation why he wasn’t with them at the time of the San Diego incident?

I always thought it was implied that Ian left Kelley to stop Ludlow, and Nick stayed with her to watch over her, since there was no other adult with them at the time. Of course, a single line of dialogue of Ian telling Kelley to Stay with Nick while he and Sarah stop Ludlow would've been nice. And maybe Nick went on to help form the dinosaur protection group seen in Lost Kingdom. That's my headcanon.

My guess is Nick secretly boarded the ship that was transporting the T-Rex to San Diego in an attempt to release it, causing everyone on board to die, himself included. Who knows, maybe Nick was the one who dismembered whoever was steering the ship, which explains why the cabin was intact.

Nick van Owen would have been a better fit to bring a character back for JWII than Ian Malcolm. Nick could have been a member of the DPG, trying to protect the dinosaurs after having seen them in person.

I never really thought his absence needed much explanation. He did the job for Hammond, got his photos, sabotaged InGen, thought he sabotaged the Rex hunt, and got paid. He was likely moving on to his next gig when the San Diego incident happened. The incident also probably took away a lot of the power his photos would've had when released to the public. Can't feel sorry for him though.

Owen and the others were protecting the animals, but also people on the mainland. And while it wasn't "poaching" in the legal sense, that's only because cloned animals had never been seen before, so there were no protections in place. After the events of that movie, they were protected and for FK they did mention animals had been poached from there. A corporation can't own an ecosystem and make those decisions. As for the rest of that political BS you just barfed on your keyboard, what a ridiculous amount of nonsense. Libertarians and conservatives don't give a shit about conservation, and have been the cause of most habitat destruction, pollution, and degradation of the natural world in the last 100 years. I always assumed that there was a substantial time jump. Ian and Sarah were pretty beaten up as we left them on Isla Sorna, but were looking relatively fresh when we caught up with them in San Diego.

That is true. It takes 68 hours or so in 2020 to drive to San José costa rica (God save me, you don't understand how hard it was to find the info I needed to plug that into the Google maps to find a number) from the port of San Diego where they landed. To definitely doesn't take that long by helicopter and plane but would likely take a bit less by boat, so let's say 50 hours at most. That's still a bit over 2 days of ship travel assuming it never had to stop along the route. It also means the crew was probably killed right before it got to the dock but that's another discussion.

I actually do think he up and left. When the Gatherers are on the helicopter flying over the tranq'd rex, you can see some unspoken reactions going on. While Ian and Sarah have a "We gotta do something about this look" Nick seems to look at both of them, before giving a sort of "im over this" look, that tells me he has no intention of involving himself any further.

The idea he was the one who filmed the san diego incident in the archive footage of the DPG would make sense.

Twist of irony IF he got out later on it would be due to the chaos of the San Diego incident being brought up in a court case... lawyer could spin it that his actions were an attempt to prevent that scenario or worse even? Either way, during the San Diego incident itself yea, I'm hoping he was in jail. I figured he went into hiding since his actions with replacing the slugs in Roland’s rifle led not only to many deaths of the survivor party they were traveling with but also to Roland tranquing the Rex which allowed it to be brought to the mainland, go on a rampage and injure/kill many several civilians. I imagine the authorities would want to have a word or two with him about that.

Love the new intro. Lost World is my favourite movie, but there are quite a few unexplained parts, like Owen's disappearance, who killed everyone on the boat, why Sarah carried around a jacket stained with T-Rex blood, and why the awesome Roland Tembo didn't pick up on that.

I like to think that after leaving Isla Sorna, the events for Nick Van Owen play out similar to the "raindrops are falling on my head" scene from Spider-Man 2 (2004) but instead when Nick falls over he puts on the hat we see him wear when we first meet Nick in Eddie's workshop, and when the police cars are chasing the t-rex Nick just eats a salad as the t-rex rampages though San Diego.

What I think happened was that he was asked by Malcom to look after Kelly. After they had gotten back he was gone. Kelly said she fell asleep and didn’t see him leave. What he did was figure out where to find Roland. After he did that he caught him hunting alligators at a lake. He told him he knew what happened to his friend and they discussed the incident. Eventually Nick offered him a job at Green Peace telling him the ladies were cute. Roland accepts probably because he didn't have anything else to do. And no one heard from him after that.

Nah, he got everyone killed - EVERYONE. Every person who died on that island was his fault. His action figure was always along for the ride with my favorites, but he always got eaten XD

The act of "Gamblers Ruin", may have taken a toll on him and almost everyone in "The Lost World". From sabotaging the vehicles to seeing T-rex caged up on Sorna. Gamblers Ruin did leave a mark on almost everyone in the movie. I love this movie and this character, and i do enjoy these vids :)

Honestly until recently I never noticed he'd just vanished 😂 I think Nick was either Baby sitting or just washed his hands of it and went back to his life. I lean more to the babysitter side of the theories.

You should start doing character comparisons comparing similar characters from the series like you did with Robert Muldoon and Roland Tembo. Billy Brennan vs Nick van Owen would be interesting since they're both young guys who did bad things with "the best intentions". The characters are one of the best parts of this series for me and it would be cool if you did comparisons between some of them. P.S. I would love to see Alan vs Ian, Ellie vs Sarah, Kelly vs Eric, etc.

Anyone else notice that the movies often combined characters from the book Levine + Sarah = movie Sarah Thorne + Eddie = movie Eddie Arby + Kelly = movie Kelly (sort of?)

I have two theories: 1- He may have been arrested by InGen or by the authorities for a questioning about what he experienced on site B. 2- He arrived in San Diego with the others and attended the rex attack without helping Ian and Sarah, who knows maybe he's the one who filmed 00:00
