I love this suite, I rode the other day for 45 minutes in 13deg F with 45 mph winds. I had nothing extra under the pants, only a modest liner under the jacket and that was it. I was never cold. Great gear

Great video. I've had the original Carlsbad kit, and it went through hot, cold and heavy downpours for 2-3 hours and never gave up on me. After more than 6 years, still works perfectly... Insane value. Now in 2023, I've just purchased the latest version kit presented in "Asphalt" and expect even better performance -> especially from a ventilation perspective - the original venting wasn't that great with "the flappers". Simplicity, comfort and security have always been musts for me on my GSA, and no, I will want to lose riding focus or stop to put something on for a rain situation. Klim has it 100%. If hell breaks loose, I'll just stop somewhere safe, under a bridge or simply at a pub. Cheers.

Thanks for this in depth overview. It’s super helpful as I’m deciding between this and the Badlands for riding in Colorado, which has everything from deserts to 4000m peaks. One piece of constructive criticism: the company pronounces their name honoring that long vowel macron over the ‘i” - it sounds the same as “climb.” That said, just keep saying Klim!

it would be nice to see inside the suit and the back of it before considering purchase. Maybe move the camera or the mannequin? I need to go to Revzilla for another detailed break down of this suit. Otherwise a good review.

I usually wear a separate back and chest protector under my jacket. Should I continue to do so under this jacket or rely on the included armour in the jacket.

Great review. I’m from NZ and bought the Carlsbad locally. I bought it to be a great all-rounder. I’ve not been disappointed. I’ve ridden here, the UAE and in Spain. It’s a bit steamy in the desert, and needs some good layering in the cold. I’d buy it again. I couldn’t afford the Badlands but also saw that as too heavy and with more limited application (ie, extreme cold conditions and crash potential off-road). Your reviews are awesome.

Why you think the Badlands would work less good off-road and in the cold?

@@florianalexander9183 I meant the opposite. I meant that’s the kind of specialist application where it would be amazing. Like off road, Siberia, etc

Great jacket alone in warmer weather, but even better when paired with a proper insulating layer in the cold. I chose an EMS feather pack down jacket, and a heated Keis plug in as well.

The best laminated suit Klim makes right now I think, a good balance all around. Only weird thing - absurdly long sleeves in a size large, long enough to cover nearly my knuckles. But if it fits you right, pretty much the perfect touring suit minus very hot weather.

Yes we stock the Baja S4 suit. We are stocking two colours this season - sage and grey. But, stocks on Klim are very short this year so we may not have all size options in both colours.

I love the look of the Carlsbad suit. ANd am extremely tempted to buy it. However I do own the Rikki Nivala already. How does the Carlsbad compare? The Rukka is great in a storm but I overheat like a lobster in a pot at the dinner table if it more than 18 degrees outside. I have a Marrakesh jacket and a rukka forceair suit. But I can’t find anything that just works. Being a slightly bigger guy its always trousers that cause the most issue..

Great presentation 👌 I think I have finally find the right suit for me. I just hope it fits my unlike Adonis figure 🤣🤦‍♂️ I swear by laminate, though unless I want to sale my kidney it’s hard to find one. I bought a 2 layer laminate from Rev’it but not happy with it. The inner liner comes out of the sleeve every time I put the jacket on and there “award winning” protectors are a joke!! Hard as a rock and newer in the right place. Nothing beats D3O

Good grief guys, taking it rather personally aren’t we? If they wanted everyone to instantly recognise it as pronounced “Climb” they should have spelt it accordingly. I’m in Australia and it’s not a huge brand here as it apparently is in the USA. Like any product, familiarity is key. I’m pretty sure he knows it’s pronounced “climb” but if he said that to his largely British customer base it would likely cause more confusion than necessary. Most Aussies are the same, we’d naturally call it Klim pronounced like a tree “limb” with a “K”. I believe it has absolutely nothing to do with arrogance or brand disrespect. I suggest it’s not worth getting offended over what is in essence nothing.

I have both the jacket and the pants. Jacket is awesome. Pants not so much. They have, good ventilation, solid waterproofing. Top of the line knee armor pocket is sewn in wrong; as a result the armor protects the inside of your knee. When you look at the construction of the garment it’s pretty obvious that the placement is an error. Klim support basically told me that they did this intentionally so they would not correct the issue. If you intend to use separate knee armor these pants will be fine but if you want to use the D30 that comes with the pants you should look somewhere else. The armor placement makes it useless. For a company with a reputation as good as klim's the customer service is horrible.

The Carlsbad is Klim’s best-selling outfit. We have sold a lot, and this has never come up as an issue. I have personally sold them to customers in the shop here; they have sat on our shop bike and I don’t recall anybody having a problem. The U.K. importer has also never heard this reported to him as a fault. I have just had someone bring a pair up to me, and I have been into the warehouse and sat on my off-road bike in a pair. The armour sat in the right place. But there are some points I would make. This is a wide-legged, adventure pant, and so the road-style armour will be able to move around. If you have an accident, the armour may, therefore, not be where you expect it to be when you hit the ground. And this I accept. But I don’t think the armour is in the wrong place; it’s in the best place it could be. Yes, it does not sit in the centre of the Armacor knee panel, but that panel goes all the way around the outside of the knee, and if the armour sat in the middle of that panel it would far too far to the outside of the knee. I think I would characterise your issue as one of personal fit, therefore. For whatever reasons, these pants are not working for you on your bike, but I genuinely don’t think that this is a widespread problem.

@@Motolegends This is a perfect example of manufacturers using a product ( namely body armour designed and shaped for "snug " fitting garments such as leathers - rather than purchasing a wider more suitable body armour that fits loose fit textile products.

Are you aware that it’s actually pronounced like “climb.” The “i” has a diacritic above it. The macron indicates it is a long vowel.

@@Motolegends thanks for the clarification. I was really hoping the new Stadler Treasure is not just looking like adventure but also fitting like one. My idea was to wear a protector shirt under the treasure jacket and just take it off as it gets too warm.

Whether British English or American English, the rules of pronunciation are the same. When there is a horizontal slash above a vowel, that indicates the vowel ought be pronounced "long". Thus, Klīm ought be pronounced "CLIMB". not "CLIM". As a distributor, of course you know that. To insult the brand with your short- voweled quip is deliberate. In my thinking, that diminishes your brand.
