If you want the klim badlands for like $650 go to motorcyclegear.com they have the 2018 model for that price. Versus the 2020 for $999. You put it on you feel so safe. Hope you see this before you buy!

Thanks for the review. I just went through the decision process at a store with both. What swayed me was the weight of the Badlands. I wear an Alpinestars Tech 5 air vest, so that combined with the weight of the Badlands was too much, and the vest provides the additional protection I wanted. I really liked the light weight and details of the Carlsbad. But they are both great jackets.

The Badlands is heavy as it is. I couldn't imagine adding a vest. I personally love the weighted feel of the Badlands but understand why people dislike it.

Great Review ! I have a question, are the shoulder and elbow protectors the same in the 2 jacckets, or is there some kind off difference ? Thanks for the effort to compare these 2 jackets as indeed i can not find any simmilar reviews . Keep up the good work ! Greatings from Belgium.

Thanks. To answer your question, no they are not the same. The Carlsbad has CE2 level armor and the Badlands has CE3 level armor. Side by side comparison show much more protection with the Badlands. One of the main factors in picking that jacket over the Carlsbad.

How is the ventilation on the badlands. Does the fabric help in hot weather? In rain does it keep you dry? Can you open the arm part is tehre any zipper

Ok, so what I was looking for is how you felt while riding in warm weather in these jackets. Did the venting make a big difference, or did the lighter weight fabric balance that out? I have tried on the Carlsbad and you are correct, it is very comfortable. I have not tried on the Badlands, as the shop I was at did not have one

Nice comparison. Have you worn the Badlands in higher temps and if so how does it perform? I'm planning to do the trans america trail next August and debating on using the Badlands or picking up something lighter.

Yeah, I wore it in temps as high as 112 F. It was hot, but had great airflow. It has performed so well that I use it full time now, summer or winter.

The arm vent zipper on the Carlsbad is a bit annoying when it creeps, but it vents WAY better when unzipped in that direction. It acts like a scoop. Also, don't forget that the Badlands costs almost twice as much as the Carlsbad.

I didn't care for the fit of the Badlands pants. They were a bit bulky and heavy for my liking. I ended up going with the Carlsbad pant. The colors still match, and they look good paired with the Badlands jacket.

I have the 2016 badlands set up. Too heavy and bulky. Too crunchy and with the integrated hydration system the jacket is so damn heavy and pulls down on the collar around your neck. I’m going to something lighter and getting a backpack with hydration system. No one plans on crashing but if you never crash or haven’t crashed yet carrying around all that extra weight is fatiguing and a burden. It’s a double edged sword

The new Carlsbad has better venting and upgraded armor...so it’s Carlsbad for me.

True, that's my choice but like he said, the front pockets aren't 100%waterproof and the fabric is not as tough like the badlands.

I have a badlands pro Have issues with zippers on vents leaking I think they have used different zippers in some jackets that are not very water resistant full stop iam having trouble sorting out a brand new jacket klim put it in gore-tex warranty and wanted me to send it for testing I thought it had been tested for price I paid for it I luckily found it leaked before going out in to the wildernes gore-tex say they can't test zippers and the problem with klim but itscw design problem with no flaps over zipper So be warned if you get a modle with bad zippers good luck

How does the sizing compare please? I’ve a Carlsbad in an XL, so was wondering if an XL Badlands would be comparable.

I felt the Badlands is a bit more snug then the Carlsbad. Different fabric and additional armor would be guess as to why.

Also that zippier at the sleeve of the Carlsbad pokes you if you don’t have your gloves on.

I have ridden through torrential downpours where I could barely see in front of me and stayed completely dry. Was highly impressed at the performance of the Badlands Pro. No experience in the rain with the Carlsbad.

Lock the zipper by putting it down, then a zip shouldn’t move

I bought myself a different Klim Jacket, the Badlands pro. I am very disappointed about this product, it is so much of not practical. It states to have a lot of pockets, but acutally you cant use them, they are to small, of are made of mesh material, or are being blocked when u open the upper part with the straps to hold it open. It very uncomfortable, it feels like a middleage armor made of metal. I rode with it about 500km and bought myself a Rukka R.O.R. jacket with a additional protector suit inside it. That is so much more quality and comfort. Sorry but for me : No Klim again. Overrated and not good for real world usage

I agree that when I first put it on it was heavy and stiff. After a 3 day road trip it started to break in and feel better. I enjoy the weight and sturdiness of the jacket, it feels like it will truly protect me in a spill.

I had a Carlsbad too. I live in Singapore & rode to Thailand. After all the positive reviews I bought it because of its waterproofing. My passport did get wet & I had the Klim Pro carbon helmet too ( horrible ventilation for the tropics ) sold it for $400 bought it for $750. Still couldn’t sell my Carlsbad. I have a Dainese summer air jacket now & use a trusted ziplock bag for my passport

The two jackets are just not worth the money. One can talk about the product as long as you want its not worth it........
