It’s entirely possible that Klingon food is spiced and prepared in such was as to be very tasty, if visually unappealing, and live food is a thing in various real world cultures. It does speak to the Klingon mentality. “Just EAT IT! It’s good! Who cares how it looks, it all ends up the same at the other end.”

@@TheBaltimoreDude The dimensions are supposed to be accurate to the sets on the show. Years ago, DS9 in STO was originally the size of a bloody hockey stadium. It was ridiculously huge and you had to run at top speed to get anywhere. That said, it wouldn't hurt to be slightly bigger than the real-life size, or have less NPCs congesting the promenade hallway.

It really can show you how interesting a culture can be and how a species might vary in shape when you get away from the parts everyone sees. Obviously this guy eats like any other klingon, but without the activity of the 'typical' warrior life style we see of most klingons in the series, it actually stacks up. But he also enjoys a fair share of musical numbers which fits with even the warships. We see and hear klingons sing and know that Opera is a big part of their story telling methodology. I really wish this guy had more scenes in more episodes. Particularly during both the klingon attack, And the dominion war when the various races where allied and staging out of DS9.

He's got the good stuff on hand whenever an actual Klingon walks up to his counter, but most Federation citizen don't have such a discerning palette. They'll wander up to his counter, order some food so they can take a holovid and post it up tagged "Totes eating Klingon! SO SAVAGE! LOL!" But they'd never actually eat it if it were moving too much and would probably demand their money back. Personal and dental hygiene was minimal at best if non existent entirely. Fingernails stained by old Gagh . My date sent her half dead Racht back and was quickly stabbed with a D'k tahg. The wound was pretty mild considering that knife was probably used to dispatch a fighting lunch menu item, and we were after all paying customers. We enjoyed our meal. Meaty, slimy and some dishes still with some fight left in it As of yet, there still have been no additions of grain, fruits or vegetables in any, even Klingon fusion dishes, unless it was part of your meal's last meal. I’m so curious… I kinda want Klingon food
@TheChoujinVirus5 жыл бұрын
this is what the two said (someone translated this years ago, but sadly the credit is his) Melora: You call this fresh?! Chef: What is your problem, lady? Melora: this slop you call food! Chef: if you don't want it, don't eat it! Melora: I want to see the blood run through its veins!

Well, I guess there is limited space on DS9 in STO. Cool to see him there though!
@theevilascotcompany92552 жыл бұрын
Hey, one of the key success metrics of a business is revenue per square foot. A booth or food truck can be way more profitable than a full-sized restaurant based on that principle.
@michaelgreenwood34132 жыл бұрын
Add to that by STO, DS9 sees a lotttttt more traffic. What with the Lukari, Deferi, and the large amount of Dominion member trading runs. Plus the Cardassian Union and Ferengi Alliance having that Ship-building contract. And Bajor being a member world of the Federation AND still considered friends of the Klingon Empire as well, even when they were at war.

I went to a luau once and I couldn't tell if the food they served was made by Hawaiians or Klingons. The only notable difference I've seen is that luau food is dead when they serve it.

I love the fact than Klingon food in trek's universe is the equivalent of Pizza, burgers, tacos or chinese food. It's like your standart for fast food.

That was clever the way they did put that in on DS9. Yes!

Klingon food must be pretty good if he was able to expand from a little stall to a full restaurant.
@kentvesser94844 жыл бұрын
Well like many ethnic foods that are new to an area, they start out small and as people who are unfamiliar with them eventually try them and develop a taste for it, and as the cooks learn how to tweak their recipes for local palates and incorporate locally available ingredients they tend to expand.
@mikegallant8112 жыл бұрын
Well in Star Trek online when they did the victory is life expansion pack they did finally give him a place on the promenade but there's a problem the Klingon restaurant got downsized to a booth I guess maybe they couldn't fit a full size eatery into the game damn shame too!

Sometimes I play spot/count the Pakleds when I watch this show. If only they gave them even occasional dialogue, if only to lighten the mood a bit during the darker episodes. That and perhaps shed a bit of light on just how they made things go so well despite not being the best at vocal communication, kind of like how Rom was a mechanical genius but not a great Ferengi businessman.

I really like the scene where the cook is playing a concertina, and singing! This is one of the best moments in Star Trek DS9! I'd try Klingon food, I've eaten some pretty weird stuff, cold baby squid tentacles served in an inky purple sauce, baby lobster (probably crawdads) in a hot red sauce, fried battered bullfrog legs...and anything else from a Chinese buffet. It's all good! Don't let your Ghak die before eating it!

That moment when you realize that a Klingon chef's chances of getting an honorable death depend on his food.

I am quite curious about what she said in Klingon, but if I were to guess it would be: "You dare serve us this travesty of this Gagh? It isn't even completely alive. "You get what you get and are you questioning the quality of my food? "I demand we be served fresh Gagh. A live one!

Humans in TNG seemed to have a different view, though. Riker deliberately started to get used to Klingon food before transfering to one (though he seemed to deal pretty well with it), and Picard thought it was a bad choice for a pre-transfer feast.
