OK, I did read in the warranty that all the parts are covered under normal wear and tear and will be replaced free. Mine system is fine. I got the oiling tip from Dean I.

ha ha after seeing that post on FB I was just waiting for you to make a video about it. thanks!

it's also very important to keep that plate clean. Metal shavings can stick to the oil and it will become a very abrasive slurry that will accelerate ware. I clean it with compressed air in between sharpenings

I just got my KME. The instructions said to lubricate this area. I used a little bit of high quality bearing grease. I also pull back on the spring when I rotate the clamp to keep the indents from prematurely wearing out.
@KnifeKrazy.3 жыл бұрын
This part is made to wear out. But yes. Keep oil on it.
@blairtaylor9552 Жыл бұрын
yep, lithium or teflon grease will last much longer in this application than oil
@preppinainteasy99653 жыл бұрын
just happen 2 run across this..if u have a belt sander u can prolong the plate a little longer..Atleast til you get another..👍 keep up the good work..

Surely releasing pressure on the spring whilst rotating would greatly reduce wear on that plate too? Still very good tip oiling it... I expect many (including me) wouldn't think to oil that. It's not like a hinge or pivot that you'd expect to oil, but it's still a moving part! Cheers.

Yes too much tension on the spring is the biggest problem.
@CL053DC45K372 жыл бұрын
Also by pressing in on the end with the spring it will also help along with the oil.

Thanks for informative vid, just started using the KME and am finding it an excellent sharpener. I live in the UK and bought a KME from a British knife agent. The problem is they only stock basics and PO from USA is really pricey if I want to order from KME direct for the usual manicness of knife guys when it comes to MORE. L,O,L,

Laurie. I am in the same position. I don't know if you know there is a new dealer of KME now here in the UK that carries a lot more of their stuff. Also they sound very helpful for getting the more obscure parts. Company is Silver Archery on 07860 835356 or 02076 221826. I finally got hold of penknife jaws through them.

Thank you Wrongway, the lads from KME kindly informed me by e mail, it fits in nice because years ago I used to practice field archery and now I am retired and my old club is only about 20mls away, well why not, great sport lovely people. All i can do now with my 80 odd knives is reprofile some and give the rest a mirror edge. Starting to get a name in North Hampshire country sports as the Scotsman who can sharpen a knife to cut through DNA. L.O.L.

Is the KME sharpening system your favorite system over the others or are their just pros and cons to each? I am looking for a system to do kitchen knives and EDC blades. Nothing out of the ordinary knife wise. Would you recommend the KME or another system for that application?? Thx in advance! Great videos!
@bp-hx9ts5 жыл бұрын
ty6896 a kme is great until you go past about 6 or 7 inches in blade length for longer blades either a different system such as the hapstone v7 or freehanding etc would be better
@KnifeKrazy.5 жыл бұрын
KME is my go to sharpener for pocket knives. When you get to larger blades there are other sharpeners that works better. I put the videos out there with the information, the decision will be up to you for your sharpening needs. Thanks for watching

When you're rotating a knife from side to side while sharpening, are we supposed to be depressing the spring each time or is it okay to just rotate from the jaws and let the detents/nipples do their thing?
@KnifeKrazy.4 жыл бұрын
Just rotate it and let the nipples do there thing. Keep the nipples lubed. You don’t want to prematurely wear out the back plate.

It's not offered for sale on the website. But, i'm sure KME would sell you some. Or, if you are having problems and one is wore out i'm sure they will give you one. Give them a call.
