Sometimes you have to talk a lot to be able to explain what needs to be done,and done correctly. That comment about too much talk is out of line to say the least . I enjoy your videos. Very informative for a first time knee replacement receiver. Cleared some of the unknown.

@Knee Replacement Therapists After three months of a knee surgery replacement, I am still in pain when I walk, it's a little swollen and nump at the exterior side of the knee. I am still doing my Phisioterapy at home, it helped me to gain an excellent elasticity in my leg, so it's not a problem for me anymore. How long do you think it's gonna take to get away the swollen and the numb state? Thank you so much for the recomendaciones and techniques to help us to feel much better after the surgery.

Awesome info thanks soo much. I'm 7 weeks post-knee revision. Had both done on the same day in 2005. Had the rivision done 3 yrs.ago and at NO time before, during or after was i ever told how to deal with the scar issue, not by the dr. Or pt. I will do this everyday since I'm still recovering and the knee is still pliable. One must really get all the important info.about the SURGEON, the implant that will be used and how to best recover. Not everyone heals the same way. I've seen so many videos just today on KZbin showing some exercises that my pt. person did not show me or he was too aggressive. Thank you so much.

Sorry to hear this. Everyone progresses at different rates and it can take over a year or more to feel fully recovered for a small percentage of people. I'm 5 weeks and 3 days out. I had a setback with the kind of bandage they used. I had a bad allergy reaction to it. I had home health PT I was beginning to do pretty good. I had requested the outpatient physical therapy. It took almost a week for the doctor to put the request in. My appointment is on the 25. I was discharged from home health on the 12th. So I have been watching videos on the different ways to get back to 100 to 110. I have been doing this on my own. Any would a tense unit work on the area as well. Or it it better to massage before and after working out.
@KneeReplacementTherapists
@KneeReplacementTherapists 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy, yes and yes... TENS units can be used as an effective pain management strategy and there are many affordable home units available. I recommend using a TENS unit in addition to your exercises and definitely not in place of them. Massage is another good pain management strategy that can be used both before and after exercises. Before exercises it can be helpful to promote blood flow and relax the muscles for greater mobility and after for pain relief and potentially reduce soreness afterward.

After knee replacement surgery is it beter to go for rehabilitation or go home immediately after the surgery ???which is best??
@KneeReplacementTherapists
@KneeReplacementTherapists Жыл бұрын
This depends on a lot of factors and will differ from person to person. There is some research showing those who go home on average do just as well if not better than those who go to an inpatient rehab facility. However, keep in mind that individuals who go to inpatient rehab often have more limitations, complications, and challenges, which is why the are probably discharged to an inpatient facility in the first place. So the short answer is it depends on your individual circumstances.

@KneeReplacementTherapists
@KneeReplacementTherapists 4 ай бұрын
Typically you can start using these when the incision is fully closed and the tissue is given some time to heal. Usually I recommend to patients they can start doing this at about the 3 week mark, so I would double check and confirm with your surgeon and/or PT. They may have a reason they want you to wait longer.

Thanks for your question. I don’t believe it is a waste of time because it is still important to maintain good range of motion and muscle strength. There is still a possibility of increasing your range of motion but it will definitely be more challenging as scar tissue has started to form at this point. With consistent effort some improvements are possible.

I had TKR a couple of months back. After surgery I developed huge hematomas up and down the leg which, for the most part, have cleared up. There does remain a residual resolving hematoma on the posterior part of my lower leg. It looks like the place the blood pooled post op. The stain does not seem to be resolving. I have tried massage at the same time as I massage the knee but there isn't a large change in the stain running from my heel up to the top of the calf. Quite ugly if I want to wear a dress where my legs show. Any suggestions or do I need to accept that this is permanent? Thanks for the great videos you have provided. Just what I needed to get motivated.

Commentary is too long. In addition, the advice to use a lubricant does not align with other PT advice. More precisely, the use of a lubricant will impede skin movement across the fascia and reduce massage effect on fascial release.
@KneeReplacementTherapists

Although there are sources who don't recommend using a lubricant, there are also plenty of other sources, and fellow PTs who I have worked with, who will utilize a lubricant. The lubricant keeps the tissue soft and moveable and is often much better tolerated by the patient.

I'm 6 weeks post op and I appreciate the in-depth analysis of these videos that my own therapist doesn't provide or I might not think of asking. Additionally, not everyone can afford extra PT sessions depending on insurance coverage. With KRT approach, it's like getting a free one-on-one session. Thanks KRT for taking the time to share.

Would it kill people demonstrating scar massage to do it on a real scar? Videos like this are like demonstrating how to play the accordion without using an accordion....

I agree there are certainly some benefits to demonstrating with a real scar after surgery, but I do think this video still offers some useful insights and advice. Thank you for watching and commenting.

@@KneeReplacementTherapists Oh, don't pay me no mind.... I have quite a lot of scarring from various escapades over the years, and I have found massage therapists consistently very reluctant to get stuck into massaging it. Even when they advertise that as their specialism. Like a lot of people, I watch massage videos for vicarious comfort, but the lack of IRL relief can make a chap grumpy.

This is good without a real scar. I dont see why you would need a real scar.

@@sharonwalton6129 You're quite right. And why are they using a real knee as an illustration? Why don't they just wave their hands around in the empty air? Or better still, not use their hands at all? And remain absolutely silent all the way through the video?

@@hugojames85 Absolutely. Silence is golden. However, they could AND should take this even further by telepathically transmitting this info to the viewers. 😼✌️
