Does this work regardless of things like femur length?

Yep. If you are long-legged, this hack will put you into an appropriately horizontal back angle with relatively high hips. If you are stubby-legged, it will put you into a more appropriately vertical back angle with relatively low hips. It seems to work on all but the weirdest anthropometries.
