He forgets one of the biggest danger for him in this position, the free hand of the attacker. He assumes that the attacker wil only hit the back of your head! I tried this move and my partner just grapped my chin or nose with a handhook and took me to the floor and stapped the hell out of me!You can better be on the outside, to kinfe swith does not happon that often, in studies in yails it only happoned 1 or 2 times on hundrets of attacks, you and your attacker can hardly think in this situation, so an knife switch will happon zerro to none! Thanks for this video because you are trying something were we all can learn and debate over, keep up the good work!

One thing boyos - ALAWAYS wear eye protection when you do even the lightest sparring with even the most rubber jelly knife. A simple construction safety glasses will do and you might save yourself tons of trouble

I get really irritated when KZbin martial artist say there's nothing you can do against the knife. When you can't run or give them what they want, rolling over and dying isn't martial arts. Soldiers have been dealing with knives, daggers, swords and spears for thousands of years and when a soldier loses his sword he doesn't just say "oh I'm unarmed and the enemy soldier has a weapon, I guess I better just roll over and die"

That is because they do not want to take responsability, but the conceps of this video save my life (against a criminal who show me knowledge in "gaucho/argentinian knive style"). I love bjj & Burtonson jkd (i trainned and used PFS jkd/ hubad ) . Saludos desde Argentina!

Maybe if you're cornered, this stuff would be called for, but otherwise, it's time to step back and run away.

A lot of times you might be outpositioned to run away, and even if you are in an open field where theres no one or thing to get in your way, it comes down to who has the better sprint. Also considering you have to also take the moment to turn around.

What if you stepped in and performed an inside reap or ouci Gari? Would going to the ground then wrestling to control the knife be better than doing so standing? It seems like he has less ability to move and retract the arm to attack again

Seems the missing component would be something like a throw, what is Japanese jujutsu mostly comprised of? Seems a lot of people are trying to reinvent the wheel, what did samurai and other ancient warriors use to deal with armed opponents bar-handed.

Why not grab the thumb? In Filipino martial arts you grab the thumb which controls the knife and arm and you can disarm him easier. Also you could turn this position you show into a joint lock takedown. A C lock outward wrist and elbow break and throw down.

If I had to fight from the inside, I like Burton's technique, but what do you think of using the Russian Tie to slam a knife-wielder into a wall and breaking his arm? kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3vLY3qmm9-Wn80 In this video, I show this use of the wall and the real dangers of getting trapped on the inside. It's not about getting hit; it's about getting grabbed and stabbed and he doesn't even need to switch hands. Ex-law enforcement. Comments appreciated. Happy New Year. Peace

In sparring an Infantry buddy tried this two hands on one grip with close hug to my body. I used te garuma with my free hand to lift and dump him. Instinctively he put his hand out to catch himself and freed my training knife. As he hit the ground he was catching training shots to both lungs and the liver. Had it been real he'd be in heaven.

Hey Stephen!! I'm wondering, do you do any knife defense? Is it simaler to this? Do you think its effective for a real life situation? I'd love to see a video on it! I bought this guys knife defense course and it think it's pretty realistic but you really have to put the time in with someone training with full resistance (eventually) and I need to practice it more. But yeah the baseball bat grip is legit.

Seems like you will go in and get stabbed in this position. I would never want to stay there or even attempt to have the guy behind me with the knife pointed at me. But if this is a good position to know in case you end up in that position. It could happen.

It is particularly disturbing how Burton grabs the knife hand, putting his THROAT AND NECK near his face, im not sure we wanna be doing that. No disrespect towards him, just that, i don't have much faith in a technique that puts me in a more MORTAL POSITION. If he happens to cut yiur hands or arns in a deadly knife attack, we wanna keep the knife away from anywhere vital, forget about taking the knife, or trying to stiff arm control his arm. Waste of time and dangerous. ⚠️WARNING these are ideas not plans. Beres how to handle it. 1. GET BEHIND A. BARRIER. 2.USE SOMETHING LONGER THAN HIS KNIFE. 3. CAUSE AN INJURY RIGHT AWAY. 4. THINK ABOUT IT? A guy who has to respond to a grabber, struggler? Or a guy dealing with a SPLIT EYE. Its up to you. But to me, emoty hand on a knife is crazy prople stuff. If theres no choice, then id say TAKE IT TO EM.

I'm sorry I disagree SM this technique I love this instructor but having done Security in places with a lot of drug dealers I can tell you that if you turn the back of your head while trying to take a knife most people are going to take another knife and go to the spot between the vertebrae and the back of your head where you can sever the spine from the brain. The problem right now is that there are a lot of drug dealers who have training from either military experience or being homeless with people with military experience or simply watching martial art videos. It's unfortunate but most people who get in a lot of fights carry two knives and if one knife is grabbed and you commit yourself fully to one knife they're just going to pull out another knife and stab away I hate to say this but it's the truth I know this from talking with drug dealers and learning how they function. this is also true for people have been homeless for a long time they generally carry two knives and they understand that the best way to defend themselves as somebody grabs one of their arms they're just going to pull out another knife so unfortunately I feel like a lot of this needs to be modified some more

@@nicholasg9804 Having 2 knives pulled on you is no joke and can probably say no technique besides running would probably work. From experience in doing what Burton is teaching is that you really need to put pressure on the attacker. I found I failed whenever I just stood there fighting. I constantly have to keep moving forward pushing them back.

Instead of struggling over the knife hand and getting punched in the brain stem, as if that were a small thing, he could move under the arm, to the back, and then would have many options including Sankyo in Aikido. With all the BS rhetoric about Aikido it gets ignored by people who then try to make it up as they go along. Instead of drawing upon hundreds of years of weapons defense tradition contained in Aikido instruction. Struggle is a mistake. Especially if they are larger than you. Especially if they have a weapon. Especially if there are multiple attackers. Aikido has much better strategies to problems like this.

Demasiada teoría y poca práctica . Que te vaya al 100% y luche por el cuchillo y jamás vas a retener el brazo . Además desarmar el cuchillo tocandolo directamente es de estúpidos , porque te arriesgas a dejarte los dedos
