GRIFFEN try a kershaw blur, I live in Iowa and work outside for an excavation contractor and need to wear thick gloves in the winter, its a great assisted knife with ramped thumb studs which helps with gloves. You can get an s30v version if you want for under $100. It has kershaws speed safe so it only assists halfway through making it easy to close one handed. It has a liner lock but it is not a super stiff one so its easier to manipulate with gloves. A bit of a tall blade for my taste and has a recurve so sharpening is a bit more of a challenge but sometimes it comes in handy. A bit of a pocket eater with the scales they have on it but definitely worth considering. One of my favorites!!! Any up votes so GRIFFEN will see this or if you agree. Thanks!!!

The Spyderco Shaman has been good to me with heavier gloves, the taller thicker blade with the generous sized opening hole makes it pretty easy to get at. The heavy construction and ergos to me always made it feel about as close to a fixed blade folder while still being easy to carry. Not a replacement to a fixed blade for sure, but kind of a more EDC friendly version.

Need your opinion on a fixed blade knife. Here are some desired parameters: 3-5 inch blade, full tang, really comfortable handle (most important), “Kydex” sheath. Steel that balances toughness, edge retention, easy to care in the field, rust resistance.

Regarding the fellow having trouble with framelock flippers, I can have all my fingers only on the lockbar (minus thumb and index, obviously) and still flip my knives no problem. The key is to use a light touch. Don't hold the knife in a death grip and you'll be fine.

I like thumb holes with gloves, but it seems like I'm in the minority here. Regarding folders with laminated steels, a lot of the made-in-Japan Spydercos in non-VG10 steels are laminated. ZDP-189 from Moki is always laminated (Caly3.5); the hap40 and AS sprints were also laminated, though I don't think you can find them anywhere at the moment. Moki also makes for fällkniven, which is why some of their stuff is laminated too.

Hey David just a heads up, areas that are not friendly to autos are also not friendly to assisted knives. While assisted knives are technically not autos, it's not easy explaining that to an officer who may not be a knife person. He will most likely key on the spring assist on the blade which he will say constitute it as an auto. Depending on what state it could be a confiscation and a fine or worse. If you want to fight it you'll have to lawyer up and then try to explain to a judge why your knife is not an auto and hopes he sides with you. Win or lose it's not worth carrying an assisted knife in a non auto area.

Does your canteen knife make a good 1 tool option? Can you baton with it? How does the steel and heat treat compare to the toughness of esee 1095? Any plans for runs in other steels? I've become fond of my 3v SRK but the spydiechef opened my eyes to other blade shapes. When are you going to send one to dutch bushcraft knives and let them put it to the test?
@knifecenter3 жыл бұрын
1095 is going to be tougher than CPM-154, but the Canteen Knife is absolutely a contender for "one-tool-option" survival. The knife has been done in AEB-L and 3V previously, and they may see a return. 3V more likely than AEB-L at this point. -DCA

Please explain the difference between automatic and assisted. I live in Minnesota where automatics are illegal but like that SOG Aegis. Thanks
@NoBody-eh8bw3 жыл бұрын
Automatics use a button or switch to deploy the blade with a spring and almost always have a safety to prevent accidental deployment. Assisted knives also have a spring that deploys the blade but only after being triggered by a primary opening mechanism like a flipper tab or thumb stud. These don't usually have a safety since it takes a bit more effort to break past the detent and trigger the assist spring so they're inherently safer. I hope this helps, but do read about how an automatic knife is defined in your area, the wording in those laws can be misleading. If they define autos in the usual fashion, the assisted Aegis should be fine, you can also check for an unassisted version or ask around some blade forums to find out if you can remove the assist spring without affecting the functionality of the knife, I've never had a knife that I couldn't do this to so I can't imagine the Aegis would be any different.
@MS-rx8it3 жыл бұрын
I don't know about Minnesota, but in CA, the difference is that you are pushing part of the blade to deploy an assisted knife. In an auto, you press some other button or switch to deploy the blade. The author of our law wrote it specifically to allow for assisted openers, though.
