A viewer recently asked if I had any mini-scout knives. At the time of this recording I had three so I thought I would take a moment to share them. Two are older versions, one pre-WWII and one post-WWII. The final is a small modern era Rough Ryder Mini Scout.

rjo8500, they’re actually a fun pattern to collect. Lots of variety as well as history in the pattern. Glad you’re enjoying the channel.

I do like small knives as they disappear in your pocket, just like the SAK classics. Now if only the can opener worked it would be a great addition to my hiking pants pocket. lol Thanks Tobias, great little knife to have.

With a lot of these little guys you're lucky if it is stamped USA or Germany. At one time, these knives may have come from a gumball machines in the General Store!

Tobias, nice mini knifes, I like that Imperial scout. But I like bigger jack knifes, just because they are stronger. Stay Safe during these corona virus times.

I collect small knives most have a blade around 2 inches. My ladybug or Fallkniven U4 can handle 90% of all tasks in and around the house.

I tell you what. Little knives are so overlooked. They can get most jobs done, especially around the house and even in the woods. They really need to be tossed in the emergency kit just because.

I recently picked up an Imperial equal end Stock knife with a punch blade instead of the sheepsfoot . And what makes that significant is that the handle scales are identical to that last mini scout . The tang stamp dates from 45 to 55 I believe . It is the highest quality Imperial knife ive found . Long pull, cut sweage , nickel silver bolsters and brass liners . Great video . I found this video because I just bought the red jigged bone mini scout .

Can you explain how to recognize the difference between a bone handle and a plastic or celuoid handle?
@KnifeChatswithTobias
@KnifeChatswithTobias 3 жыл бұрын
There are a couple ways. One is to look at it under a magnifier and look for the grain in the bone. This is not always easy as some plastics also have “grain”. It usually helpful to have known bone and plastic samples. Another way is to heat a safety pin to red hot and touch the handle in a discrete spot. Plastic will melt and bone or natural material will burn. They will also give off different odors. ( it will also mar the surface). The best, in my opinion is comparing to known materials and buy from trusted retailers and manufacturers.

Do you think that them little knives have a place? I have to do a video on all my little guys and I have a bunch!!!!!!
@KnifeChatswithTobias
@KnifeChatswithTobias 4 жыл бұрын
I definitely feel they have a place. They are much more useful than most people give credit. And more importantly nobody freaks out when you pull it out of your pocket. And let’s face it... people look at you like you’re an idiot when you open a small box with a Bowie knife. But when you pull out a little penknife to remove that lose thread from a wedding gown or remove an annoying tag from jacket you’re the hero of the moment.
