A massive clear fan backlash is the only viable way to force them to change the creative direction. While it's full of negativity and can be tiring after a while, the pressure is having a positive effect even if it's to a small degree for now, but they're not only listening to that fan backlash, they care enough to react to it. The idea of super heroes like her and our general modern lethal force laws have some actually interesting implications. Speaking a bit generally, most modern lethal force laws are based on the idea of you can only use lethal force if you were truly in fear for your life or great bodily harm [or you are protecting someone nearby for the same reason because they are or you are for them]. (there are some exceptions and complications to it but generally speaking...). It isn't quite based on the idea of someone "trying" to murder you technically. For example: If a little 2 year old comes running at you with a small stick that couldn't hurt anyone and truly is wanting to murder you for whatever reason, and you just pull out a gun as an adult healthy male and shoot him, you are probably going to jail for murder short of some really special circumstances. If you are literally invincible, and there is no one else around to "protect", could a super hero like her ever do legal "lethal force" with the level of killing punches she is always doing without it being outright murder according to modern laws? Probably not actually. Assuming it isn't some other super hero I guess but just some thug with a knife or gun. I mean say she gets jumped in an alley like she had been in this show at times, and she just transforms and punch-murders them. She would probably go to jail for murder if that ever came to the light of day because with most modern legal laws she was in zero danger and just killed a guy with one punch. Like my previous example, these guys are essentially the 2 year old attacking her. Maybe this would have actually been an interesting way to go with the show and legal dramas about it. How our concept of self defense and our current laws would have to adapt, or not adapt, to a world with actual super heroes. Heck, would at least be more interesting as a side plot on the show than anything they came up with :P and would be actually topically appropriate for the show that has the "lawyer super hero".
@idontwanttoputmyname4032 жыл бұрын
I suppose depending on the situation occurring the most likely defense/legal provision superhero’s would be able to use would be the various “Good Samaritan” laws in place so that people can come to the defense of others. And to be fair, part of the reason most superheroes don’t deal with this (aside from the complications of originally trying to do a comic run and not wanting to bog it down with a court case) is the whole “secret identity” thing. It would be kind of hard to serve The Incredible Hulk court papers… Although now I do kind of want to see a series or maybe a short film about “hero chasers” who are basically always ready for a superhero to show up so they can chase them down with court documents.
@ALavaPenguin2 жыл бұрын
@@idontwanttoputmyname403 Well my example is strictly speaking to where the super hero is attacked and there are no other people they are defending. Modern self defense laws would apply generally in those cases of protecting others who are vulnerable and not also invincible super heroes [although it may be a bit more complicated even there, something to explore]. This applies to situations where the super hero is attacked directly and not others, which did happen and it is more noticeable in this show for just how extremely willing she was to use lethal force in these situations where she wasn't actually in any real danger. This show isn't alone in this but there are some parts of the writing that made it more noticeable than normally in other shows. Yeah, and obviously I don't want this as a plot point for every super hero thing :P that would get tedious. But, this being a show that is supposed to have legal battles and so forth this actually would have been an interesting point.
@idontwanttoputmyname4032 жыл бұрын
@@ALavaPenguin Oh yeah, I got that. I was just thinking superheroes general actions and how they normally could get away with it. You’re right that with even most generous self defense laws needing the one using the defense to reasonably believe their life was in danger poses issues for characters like she-hulk who are invincible. Though maybe early on one could argue the person under attack wasn’t “used” to being invulnerable or something… Anywho, I agree with you it’s an interesting question!
@derrickcrowe38882 жыл бұрын
We might be from different countries and thus have different laws, but the USA condition for response with potentially lethal force in self-defense is that there must be a reasonable belief that you are under threat of death or serious bodily harm. I'll be discussing it under that condition, since She-Hulk is in the USA. Generally speaking, I agree that random thugs wouldn't be capable of threatening her with death or serious bodily harm. But in superhero universes, there's pretty much always some kind of weakness or magic/science/technology that can take down superheroes, and there'd be no real way to know that random thug's knife isn't coated with some anti-Hulk poison or something. Especially if the thug is aware that she is She-Hulk and continues to try to harm her, it's a reasonable belief that the thug must have a means to do so. I think she'd have a strong case that self-defense can be justified. And not allowing her to ever defend herself is basically a death sentence the moment a villain develops a way to kill her, which would be a huge violation of fundamental human rights.
@idontwanttoputmyname4032 жыл бұрын
@@derrickcrowe3888 The counter to that, I feel, would be whether it’s a *reasonable* belief your average street thug *has* an anti-whatever-you-are weapon. Like how kryptonite is supposed to be rare, or how anti-hulk weapons are usually military projects. For most superhero’s it *wouldn’t* be reasonable to believe the average dirty street thug that smells bad and has holes in his trousers (I’m strawmaning just a tiny bit I know) would have kryptonite or a secret gov’t weapon.
@tekkblade822 жыл бұрын
7:02 in many parts of the USA use of lethal force is legal in defense of another person that one believes is about to be killed or suffer great bodily harm. Which means she still shouldn't have crashed through the concrete ceiling to kill those guys because no one would reasonably believe Dare Devil was about to be killed or suffer great bodily harm from those goons.

How the hell did Jessica Gao become the showrunner on such an expensive, front-line show? Marvel seemed to be banking a lot on She-Hulk. Her resume on IMDB is pathetically thin; just a few episodes of shows here or there, and not a thing that she actually ran start to finish before. She should never have been hired for something this big before having actually proven herself which, after She-Hulk I'm not sure she's actually capable of. Before this, her biggest accomplishment was a single episode of Rick and Morty that was popular: the Pickle Rick episode. As much as the Rick and Morty fans might appreciate that episode, it's hardly a good foundation to justify her hiring.

I've never been big on Dramas or most Action Movies or most Superhero Movies. The nonsense of the past few years just adds to that! Additionally, the MCU and other "Disney Properties" are a total insult to Walt Disney and his memory/dreams:( Also in regard to animation, the Golden Age(s) of Disney where so good and since the early 2000s almost all animation is crap to me.

Glad to watch this review. Great fun Thoughts on getting an animated or partly animated avatar for the wife if looking to do these more enough, if she isn't interested in live face reveals as others do? In the age of Vtubers it could work. Someone who's a fellow fan of yours Leaflit Vtubes with her mum Asari doing so and it could be a fun way to do things to allow em an active expression for things. Even just a partly animated PNG with expressions can work, kinda as are doing with the WW Best lucks, loves and wishes for all your's and yourself for the works.

They all were with exception of Iron Fist. Luke Cage was awesome & great representation of black heroes while also dealing with issues of racism & crime in black communities. I thought the same of Black Lightning when it was on. Jessica Jones wasn't some mary sue she had A LOT if problems mostly stemming from childhood trauma & the trauma of being unwilling sex slave to Purple Man. She's not a good person but she's trying to be.

Which one is worse, Rings of Power or She-Hulk?
@neilrusling34382 жыл бұрын
EASILY Rings of GirlPower. She Hulk just kicked an already dead MCU corpse, RoG stabbed a healthy living powerful intellectual property that could/should have been stunning but they worked real hard to destroy it. She hulk writers need a good kicking. RoG writers need sticking against a wall blindfolded.

So, she'll come after people that harm or harass innocent people by harming and threatening them. And who determines what is harm or harassment? She does. So she's judge, jury, and executioner. Amazing ideas these writers have about democracy.

You work well with your wife in this format. Which is something _the world needs to see!_ Why not make a digital character of her that talks when she talks? Don't remember the term for it. Make something pretty, that still protects her anonymity but makes her comments more alive and present. She's truly clever and charming!

I would love to see a late night show invite the head writers on, and say, "so I thought this show was a disaster because of the writing, but it turns out that it's Kevin Feige's fault, not yours. Can you speak to this? Why do you think Kevin feige wanted She Hulk to fail?"

This seems to be a very common theme with shows these days - these new-age screen writers think they know better than the original author that wrote the masterpieces everyone loves, so they muddle around with the original stories until it's entirely wrecked, and then put it out, thinking they have created gold, when really all they've got is hot-garbage on their hands. Then the audience tells them it’s hot-garbage, and then Hollywood proceeds to try to blame everything on internet trolls and starts calling the fans of the original works all sorts of nasty names. And then the cycle repeats until the property in question is well and truly buried, and nobody cares anymore.

First became concerned about the state of the MCU when Kingpin was nerfed and went from a villain who decapitated a man with a car door for humiliating him in front of his date to a man who could be defeated in combat by Kate Bishop when we’d already seen him tank both Daredevil and Bullseye. The way the writers and director both completely failed to understand Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk, one of my favorite comic book characters, AND wasted the immense talent of Tatiana Maslany, completely shattered my faith in the MCU. Sigh. I DO NOT have high hopes for Daredevil: Born Again.

@mewmeister86502 жыл бұрын
It's hard to really consider No Way Home a Marvel movie at this point, considering it was basically writing Spiderman out of the MCU before backpedaling harder than She-Hulk can commit manslaughter. Even then, while it was good, I wouldn't call it great.

So from what I understand, She Hulk is A comedy that isn't funny A legal comedy that doesn't understand the legal system A children's show that isn't appropriate for children And a comic book superhero story by people who hate comic book superheroes. It's honestly impressive that they managed to fail at everything. Most bad stories would get something right on accident, but they manage to exceed all my lowest expectations. Bravo.

My most favorite anime series of all time if not my most favorite form of fiction, Card Captor Sakura, was written by an all female group of writers called Clamp, and the characters are either gay, straight, bisexual, and/or full on lesbians. And guess what? It’s actually well written with likable characters that you actually care about. And one character in particular from this series, Tomoyo Daidouji, is the most beloved character that I’ve ever seen in fiction because of how much of a sweetheart she is, and that she cares for people, gives helpful advice, comforts those in need, resourceful, creative, kind, gentle, and most importantly, selfless. And, she’s multitalented, funny, well mannered, supportive, friendly, and is extremely adorable. This coming from a character who is either a lesbian or bisexual. I love this character so much that she heavily inspired the main heroine of my now 24 year old anime project and is the wife of the main hero. She even has different versions in Clamp’s follow up series Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, with the main version of her on that series being a feudal Japan princess, possesses strong magical powers, and has a connection with the main samurai character Kurogane. The idea that women writers sucks or that female characters have to be such bitches is a modern philosophy that I don’t like at all, and thankfully their tactics are backfiring drastically. The sad thing is that we’ve been warned about this decades ago, even in fiction like Married With Children in which Al Bundy fought against his neighbor, Marcy Darcy, who would of had the same exact mentality as todays crazy feminists. This show and other similarly bad shows & movies like The Rings Of Power & Madam Web are a constant reminder why we need to keep fighting back against this atrocity. And thankfully, it’s working. Disney alone is paying the price big time, so, their actions do have consequences and it will ultimately come back to bite them in the ass.

I honestly don't want Marvel to die like this, but I do want them to change because of this. Enough with the funny one-liners riddled action scenes, enough with the grandiose Save the World plots, enough with the CGIfests. I get that this image has differentiated them from DC for years now but it makes for such poor stories, that's why they are in such pinch now that Thanos is gone, they forgot how to write stories without a CGI villain to beat up or without a group to bounce quippy lines off of. I'm convinced this is why Joker was such an astounding success, everyone is so filled with superhero movie fatigue that when a character driven movie that focused on the psychological aspect of a villain came out everyone clamored to it because it was so different from the last ten years of superhero cinema.

They cut off the movies from the comix. The comix is where ideas are tested and had an audience. Now, they are totally separate and no one is interested in the remaining fans so everyone is isolated and jumping ship as the entire system sinks like the Titanic.

The writers unknowingly (or intentionally ?) wrote the Mega Happy Ending of Wayne's World. In fact, now that I think of it, there are a lot of similarities between those two pieces of entertainment: comedy genre, fourth wall breaking, the protagonist changes the ending to suit his (her) desires, the only massive difference is that Wayne's World is actually funny. FISHED IN !
@AliceBowie2 жыл бұрын
When she says, " all marvel movies end the same way", with high stakes and big spectacles... yeah, you can make super hero movies that subvert expectations and are more realistic. Maybe a fantastic 4 movie where they get hit with cosmic rays at the beginning, and the whole rest of the movie is them getting chemotherapy, and they wither away and die at the end, without ever getting powers. That would be more "real life", and subvert expectations. Or Iron Man, with Tony Stark dying at the beginning. Or doctor strange has a panic attack, and the world ends because he refuses to get out of bed at the big climax. But there's comic books that deal with the idea of super heroes and makes them realistic, like Invincible. This show just decided to make a show that insults the idea of the hero, and then blames you for not liking it.
