KNIT TIME LAPSE⎮Part 3 Final Part Of My Reverse Engineer Sweater Project

In this knit time lapse, I show the process of reverse engineering a storebought cable sweater. While knitting this project, I made adjustments to the dimensions so it would be more customized to my liking. In between knitting, I included quiet moments around the house, and footage of the changing weather. Overall, this video is sectioned between my voice over and pure music. Finally, after wetblocking and weaving in ends, I reveal the final result and show the very first outfit I wore to style it.
Hope you enjoy!

At first I didn't get why I was drawn to your videos but now I think I do.. you share some technical tips here and there but you mostly focus on the process, the mindset, what you are thinking and feeling about the project. I especially like that you don't hide your mistakes, on the other hand you share them for us to learn! I felt your pain when you cut the yarn ha ha

I love your finished project and I bet the sweater feels so soft on your skin, since it’s cashmere. I have been thrifting cashmere sweaters to unravel and using the yarn to make new items. It’s time consuming project but it is so satisfying. I’m so happy to find someone who has the same passion.

I used to be really hesitant to undo mistakes in my knit pieces but your channel has helped improve my view of frogging from a burden to a necessary step to improve and learn. Due to this new mindset, my knit sweaters have improved significantly. Thank you!

It turned out beautiful! And your confidence and happiness when you wear it shows ☺ I recently completed my own sweater from scratch, no pattern, just little steps that I learned and put together, and I owe a large part of jumping into that project to you! Watching you figure out your knitting challenges inspires me~

I have a few video suggestions. I'd love to see your process of writing out your patterns when deconstructing. A simple how to knit a sweater video for beginners and what skills need learned first (I've never made one). And perhaps a video on how you choose sweaters to thrift and unravel. This looks great, so inspiring as usual!

Wonderful result. Well done! You should use a steamer or iron to block the sleeve while it was still on your needles. You can block in other ways :)
@ToTheKnitPoint

Thanks so much Anna :) I have used a steamer in the past to wetblock natural fibers but I found it made the fabric feel a little more rough. I think, due to the heat, it felts the fabric a bit. At least thats what happened to me, so I have always preferred a cold wet block even if it takes a little more time. Maybe I was holding the steamer too close? Perhaps in the future I may try again. Thanks for the suggestion!

I love the finished sweater. The yarn you chose was perfect for the project and it gave it such a soft drapey look. Thank you for sharing your process, mistakes and all. It's comforting to know that to knit something to fit correctly and for it to look the way you imagined takes time and effort. Also the willingness to frog back and reknit is essential too. I appreciate the dedication you have to this craft and look forward to future projects.

Good to see an update of this project! Kudos to you for your perseverance. Sometimes I think leaving a project for a while is great, bc you have time to cool off a bit and then being able to go back with a new perspective✨

Thanks so much. Yes, I considered starting a different project, but honestly could not get this one out of my mind. I definitely had a different perspective though, mainly because of the yarn change. It really changed things up for me! :)

Congratulations! Your perseverance is unbelievable! I see you reuse yarn a lot... my Mom used to do that too, but when she'd dry the hanks she would hang a weight at the bottom of each which would literally straighten it back, did you ever try that? I - for one - hate knitting with unraveled kinked yarn. Great job!

Oh thank you. Honestly, that is a hard question to answer. I really have no idea... because it was such a long project and some days I would knit all day while others, it was only for an hour or two.

I enjoy your videos very much and have learned a lot from your unravelings, mostly that they are a plus if you want to get better at this craft. I have a question though...I have been knitting for over 35 years, watch a lot of blogs, read the knitting books I have purchased over the years and knitting magazines and have never heard of anyone using fabric softener like Downy when blocking their sweaters. Quite the contrary as a matter of fact, they advise against it..could it be because you use acrylic fiber? Also, where have you found out about this practice? I have always used Eucalan soft soap, not needing to be rinsed out. You amaze me...😅
@ToTheKnitPoint
@ToTheKnitPoint Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the very late reply! To be honest, I don't remember exactly how I got the idea of using fabric softener! But I believe it was through a 'repurposing yarn' video I watched almost a decade ago. It was a way to soften the kinks and also freshen up the yarn, especially if it was thrifted. I'm not sure if the video is still up on KZbin. I didn't know fabric softener was not recommended for blocking sweaters, but it has always worked for me. In fact, I noticed quite a big difference when I block without fabric softener. The fabric seems stiffer and less plush in the end result. As for the acrylic fiber, I always use natural fibers or a blend of natural fibers. It's very rare that I go for acrylics. Thanks so much for taking your time to comment. I hope I answered your question! (ps. I'll have to give Eucalan soft soap a try in the future!)
