Thank you! I can’t wait to try this technique. I was knitting a pair of color work socks last month. They ended up in hibernation cause the cast-on edge didn’t look quite right. I used the long tail cast-on. I was thinking about ripping them out and trying the German twisted cast-on. Now that I’ve seen your video, I want to try the purl long tail cast on instead. 🎉❤😊

Thanks for this video. I had always thought it was so complicated doing a purl caston. Im glad you showed me it's completely doable. Can you please explain why you have the working yarn coming from the finger instead of the thumb when doing this?

the theory I was taught is the yarn that is used in the second part of the cast on uses more than when you go under the first part. So the theory is putting the tail on the thumb or finger that is not used to make the actual stitch. Now this goes out the window if you are mixing the two (knits and purl cast on and yes you can do that). And at the end of the day, you can put the tail over either the thumb or finger and still get the same results...you just might run out of tail faster.

What pattern(s) do you use this technique? Seeing it in use of a garment would be easier for me to understand where/when I’d use this

think of it this way. If you want the flow of the stockinette garment to be 100% knits on one side and purls on another, and your first row is a RS row after the cast on, you will want to use this to cast on, so when you turn your work the knit side of the long tail cast on will be on your left hand needle.

you kinda making me want to learn to knit, kinda, I do love to crochet and I did try to knit years ago but I did not like the stretching the yarn over the needle. maybe I had a tension issue as you don't seem to stretch anything.
