Circular needles are sooooo versatile and cost effective. I think that it is better to buy a nice set of circulars instead of buying a set of straights. Circular needles are great to use instead of straight needles for flat pieces. You can do much larger pieces and not have a lot of strain on your hands wrists and arms. From experience you will find that you can fit about 3 times as many stitches on that needle as well, so you could knit an entire blanket flat or in the round a very large sweater. You can also knit very small circumferences on that same needle you have by using the magic loop method. You didn't need to transfer to double points at all. As a matter of fact you could have used a 2nd circular needle to knit in the round also.

Experience tells me circulars give way more RSI then straight needles. Plus the cable is annoying and gets in the way. I only ever use circulars for knitting in the round then they get firmly shoved in the drawer. Not sure what knitting method your using but if you get RSI knitting straight you're 100% doing it wrong

I don't experience repetitive strain injury with circulars, and in fact, use them 100% of the time - flat or round. It pays to spend the money to get good quality needles. Their cables have no memory, and never cUrlacher up. I adore my ChiaoGoos

@@Nicola_Torrington I am a beginner but getting better (I think!) I have hand & wrist problems, I have been diagnosed with hyper mobility and lax muscle in h/w. My first set were used and were a bargain to boot. All good quality and went from 2mm and upto 6.5mm including all half sizes as well as quarter sizes. They were also in the original little packets & straight! I learnt a little quicker than I thought I would and enjoyed it but the needles seemed heavy and sometimes too slippery to control. I was on the lookout for something more lightweight and I tried symfonie wood from knit pro. I only purchased one as I didn’t know if would work for me. I loved them! I purchased the set & just recently bought the interchangeable round starter set which I will be trying out later today or tomorrow. I have heard your set are good also but I think it’s trial and error along your knitting journey. I also bought 9mm & 10mm but I have really tiny small hands and I find it cumbersome trying to handle them. So can I be cheeky and ask you for advice with the chunky needles please. Take Care

If the cable is curly you can soak it in very hot water for a few minutes to straighten it out. I Karbonz circular needles because the cables don’t curl.

Can I please request a video? Another knitter has uploaded a video with a pattern but something keeps going wrong when I try it. The pattern is knit two, yarn over twice (some are arguing it should be yarn over once), purl two together all throughout the row, all rows. I'd really appreciate your help, thanks.
@Nicola_Torrington3 жыл бұрын
It should only be one yarn over, unless your pattern has deliberate big holes in the fabric. When you yo, you are increasing by one stich. When you purl two together, you're decreasing by one stitch,. The two should balance eacheck other out, so you always have the same number of stitches on your needles

Hey RJ! What do you do if your stitches get twisted even after you straightened them initially? Do you just have to start over?
@sylviaortega71804 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately. It will cause the piece to twist and the only option is ripping it off and starting over.

I have a quick question! I don't understand why when I start knitting I end up with this long string in the middle and it's not perfect it looks horrible so I end up taking it apart and starting all over again I truly want to learn how to knit and crochet really good but I feel that I'm more stronger in the crochet than in knitting and I just want to know why I end up with such a long Gap in the middle which is a string of course... nothing's coming out the way any tutorial even the simplest it doesn't come out right :( #totaldisaster #pleasehelp

@Stettafire3 жыл бұрын
Knit on straight needles and don't go in the circle
@Nicola_Torrington3 жыл бұрын
Use the circular needles as if they were straight needles. DO NOT connect.the two ends in a circle. **Just turn your work around like you would with straight needles,** The reason you need circular needles when knitting a shawl is because straight needles can't hold the number of stitches required for the shawl. With circular needles, the stitches can slide onto the cable. So use them because the shawl is so wide. A shawl is not a circular project, but needs circular needles just the same
@Nicola_Torrington3 жыл бұрын
The cast-on you used should never be employed. The yarn between your right and left needle will keep getting longer and longer. At the very least you could use the (very easy) long tail cast-on.
@HoneyBadger9383 жыл бұрын
This comment caught my eye. I was trying to knit a 16 stitch scarf on circular needles (to give more room) BUT... I somehow after going through a whole skein of yarn, ended up with 4-5 times the amt of stitches. How do I make a 16 in regular stitch scarf without it coming out looking like a cape? Thank you so much! :)

Cast on with Judy's magic loop. 8 stitches per needle. Then go in a round, increase at each of the sides of the needle for 4 increases each round. Then knit 1 round. Alternate between those two and keep going until you have a dome shape to the measurement you desire, and if you want a rib brim work a few rounds in rib then cast off.
@fredrickvoncold4 жыл бұрын
does it matter which cast on you use ?
@Stettafire3 жыл бұрын
No, there are cast ons that give you no hole (Judy's magic cast on) and those which give you a circular hole. Basically let's you work bottom up or tip down. Some cast ons have more stretch then others also. Depends on what you want to do
