Күн бұрын

Sun Dragon is starting a knit-a-long in April 2022 for the Ranunculus sweater by Midori Hirose, and I'll be attempting to keep up with some videos that can assist the pattern. I will try not to reveal too much of the pattern, you should really get your own copy from the pattern writer on Ravelry (about $6.50):
www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...
We love this pattern in the shop because it is so customizable, you can make it on any yarn from a lace weight to worsted weight, can alter the neckline, sleeve length, and torso length, and since it's designed to have enormous positive ease, you can do all of it on a size 10 needle, often without testing your gauge.
This video is the second in the series, laying out as clearly as I can the Double Twist Loop Cast On, the looser of her two cast ons.
I'll be doing my best to build a playlist of videos that I've already make that could be helpful as well.
Consider subscribing, suggest videos you want to see below, and check out the Sun Dragon Sideshow, Liz and I are always making fun things. We will be talking a lot about the Ranunculus as well during this knit-a-long over there:
/ @sundragonsideshow
Let me know what else you would be interested in seeing in a video :)

Thank you for this. I made a ranunculus for myself with a ‘normal’ neckline, but my granddaughter wants the wide neckline so I had to come back to you for this tutorial. ❤❤❤

Rebecca, I am throwing down the 'Old Lady card' down on the table. Of course, you are Rebecca! Silly me. I am suitably ashamed. But I am an old lady, so I won't be ashamed for long. 😅😉

I don't want to do the boatneck version. Is this cast-on still a good choice? Thanks for this series! Late to the party, but about to start a Ranunculus and so glad you are here with these! Am I wrong....I'm feeling like casting on will be the hardest part.

I'm going crazy with knitting in loops. How do you manage? Could you may do a video on that topic and show? And maybe you have some tips on how to deal with 2 yarns? I have a light fingering plus a mohair, they get messed up all the time with knots and curls 🙈. ... Help is very welcome! ...
@SunDragonTipsTricks
@SunDragonTipsTricks Жыл бұрын
Hi Annie- I might need more information on what you mean by knitting in loops- do you mean knitting in the round, in a circle? With more clarification, I might know if I already have a video, or if I can think of a way to film one down to road, or otherwise advise……. When holding two yarns together, I often keep them in their own separate containers or bags, and let them sort themselves out, and it’s only when holding them in my hand for tension that I imagine they are one yarn, if that makes sense. Often mohair needs its own container/bowl so it doesn’t get super tangled……..

Rebeca please help, How should I choose the size? Only by the bust circumf? My 124 cm. In advance thank you for your help. Nice day from Germany
@SunDragonTipsTricks
@SunDragonTipsTricks 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lu- many ask this question and it’s challenging to answer because it’s a lot of personal preference- I may make a short video discussing it- the sweater is meant to have a lot of positive ease, 35-45cm+ if you want. That means adding that much to your bust size. With a thinner yarn especially it will still have awesome drape and not look really wide, but if that feels too big, measure a sweater where you like the fit and see if there is a size that is close :)

Should we be starting on 16 inch size 10?
@SunDragonTipsTricks
@SunDragonTipsTricks 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Donna- I think Liz answered this on the phone, but yes I start on the 16 inch size 10, and often I can switch to the 32 as soon as I am comfortable, sometimes after the first set of increases :)
@AlaskaDonnaG
@AlaskaDonnaG 2 жыл бұрын
@@SunDragonTipsTricks yes Liz did answer. I am currently on round 4 of yoke. You mention 32 inch. I bought 16 and 40. inch. Will that work?
@SunDragonTipsTricks
@SunDragonTipsTricks 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! You may need to wait until there are a few more increases before it fits on the 40”, since even the smallest size bust for this sweater is a 46”, the 40” circular will work!

i keep getting two loops per movement! what am i doing wrong?!
@SunDragonTipsTricks
@SunDragonTipsTricks 2 жыл бұрын
❤️Since I can’t see your work, I won’t be able to tell you that. If memory serves, the most challenging part is the final dip and scoop, be careful to make that cleanly. The only loop that should end up on your needle is from the strand between your finger and thumb. ❤️

Is this the same as Old Norwegian/twisted German CO?🤔
@SunDragonTipsTricks
@SunDragonTipsTricks Жыл бұрын
This is *not* the same, but I know plenty of knitters who have used the German twisted for this project- the strechiness will probably be between a regular long tail and the provisional cast on version she offers.

Ay por Dios tantas explicaciones abruman! Lo tuve que ver con velocidad doble y totalmente silenciada la voz. La imagen vale más que mil palabras. A veces tanta palabra confunde en lugar de aclarar. ❤

Thank you for your feedback- if the words are too much I would check out Midori’s original videos for the sweater, she does them without talking. I made these videos for those who are not helped as well by the original videos and talking helped. To each their own ❤️

Do you love this cast on for the Ranunculus? Is it ideal?
@SunDragonTipsTricks
@SunDragonTipsTricks Жыл бұрын
It is one of the two cast-ons the pattern writer suggests. “Ideal” is so relative a term it’s hard to answer that question- what works for one person is not ideal for another, and the fiber you are using can change the answer to that as well. Sometimes it is only figured out through trial and error. One of her suggested cast-ons is looser than the other, so it depends on the look you would like. My assistant does a regular long tail cast on, but starts with 90 stitches.
