I've carried a Case Trapper for years. It's one solid knife. The blades are scratched from use and abuse. This knife isn't made to hang out in a pocket looking pretty. It is made to be used. This was your grandpa's EDC knife. Mine is easy to hone to a razor's edge and it holds that edge for quite some time. Today W.R. Case is owned by the same company that makes Zippo Lighters (your grandpa's EDC too!). I don't think you can go wrong with any of Case's many patterns. Next to the Trapper the Stockman is popular too.

Very cool- I have a couple Case sod busters, a drop point hammerhead and a mariner (those are rare) but I don’t have a trapper- yet. I’ll want mine in natural stag or bone. I’m a big fan of GEC and I do have a Queen cutlery Canoe that serves me well in the rotation.👍🏻
@isaacs_knives_and_knowledge2 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Definitely find a trapper you like. I did own one GEC and it was a fantastic knife but I sold it to get money for a new blade. It was the 23 pioneer trapper.

It's my understanding that case xx tru sharp surgical steel is 420HC (high carbon)
@isaacs_knives_and_knowledge11 ай бұрын
I have heard that but I don't think it's true. They released some knives this year designated as 420HC which leads me to believe their tru sharp is not that or they would have just called these new knives tru sharp.

Oh no! We disagree. 😂😂😂. I think the Moose pattern style knife is more important to own than the Trapper. Having said that, I am in the minority as everybody makes a Trapper and Moose are hard to find. Still a good video.

@@isaacs_knives_and_knowledge This may sound questionable, but I have been reading some good revues about the Rough Rider Moose knives. They are made in China, but several people are giving them the 👍. For $15-$20 I thought it was worth a look and ordered one from SMKW. I have not yet received it. I had a high quality American made one, but along with some other knives it “disappeared” during a move.

@@ROE1300 The only negative thing I have ever heard about Rough Ryder is that they're made in China. Nothing performance wise.
@ROE13003 жыл бұрын
@@isaacs_knives_and_knowledge If properly supervised so that specifications are strictly adhered to the Chinese are capable of good quality. Left unsupervised or marginally supervised they will cut corners to increase their profit margin. And, of course, some of their stuff is intentionally just junk. Politically China is Communist; economically they are Capitalists. They have been the leading traders in Asia for hundreds of years. I would be careful what I purchased that was made in China, but by itself that is not a disqualifier. Cold Steel has many (if not all) their products made in Taiwan, the Taiwanese are Chinese. I’m old enough to remember when stuff made in Japan was considered junk. Made in the USA is best, but not everything can be made here.

@isaacs_knives_and_knowledge Жыл бұрын
Why the dislike for trappers?
@brianc9374 Жыл бұрын
@@isaacs_knives_and_knowledge 1. The handle. 2. The blades I don't care for barlows or sway backs much either. Sowbelly and canoes are comfortable and even the serpentine frames. The standard trapper handle just feels odd in my hand. The standard blades, especially the long spey are not my preferred. Personally I'd like to see a canoe made with the pen blade replaced by a screwdriver cap lifter. I think this would be an ideal edc.
@davidcooper6704 Жыл бұрын
Beware...Rant 😡.......I have a few Case knives and some Rough Ryders. A good Case knife is excellent when it is good but 3 of my 8 (37.5%) Case knives have issues which my Rough Ryders do not. RR are not perfect but the fit and finish is more consistant overall. Case knives are expensive here in the UK whereas RR are not. I have a RR Copperhead and I challenge anyone to find fault with it. I have always had tendancy not to buy Chinese goods but it is almost impossible now. Almost all household appliances/electrical equipmet/phones etc. are Chinese made as they may well be in the US. However, these days, if the quality is better than UK products, I cannot support our manufacturers, so I do not understand why you prefer to buy US made items, which often are sub standard, in preference to a Chinese made item just because it is made in the US. Case have clearly indicated by their products that they don't care about their poor manufacture or quality control. Two dealers in the UK have said that they have more Case knives returned than than any other brand. That says something to me.
