I don’t know everything when it comes to research and development time, but I do know it’s not a couple weeks and no actual testing. But there’s people out there buying a ton of this junk. Wild.

So part 2 will be running a carburetor without attempting to properly tune it after changing a key component? Sounds like you're biased towards edelbrock. I'd give it a solid attempt and if you can't get it where you want it try drilling out those orifices
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 10 ай бұрын
I’m not biased for the thieves. Maybe you are? No we’ll put it on a 1406 that wasn’t tuned at all (the way many people run them) then try it on well tuned 1406 and see what the results are and finally see if we can tune out any bad spots, which there certainly will be. For sure I won’t be modifying them. If the thieves can’t effectively steal something, I’m not going to try to correct their work.

Why not test on a 650 cfm AVS Thunder?

From the results I saw of the knock off carburetors being extremely erratic at low rpm and cruise, I’d expect these to perform the same. If I get bored this summer I might test it.

I’m impressed by your knowledge and attention to detail. Do you think these knockoffs can be made to work by making modifications?

As mentioned in the video, the struggle Edelbrock had with them in a 600 was only corrected by upping the CFM. As I understand it, since they make the boosters at their facility in NC (I did a video on that tour), they tried quite a few different variants with no success. So we’ll give them a go and at least show AFR data and see where they fall apart. Looking forward to part 2!

As a trained machinist i can honestly say, Most of what he complains about is inconsequential. For context a human hair measures roughly .0025. The differences he measured on some of the holes are in some cases 1/3rd the thickness of a hair. Really the only point I'd be worried about is the bent vent tube which could've come from shipping and can easily be corrected. You could measure two of the same model number boosters made by edelbrock off the same exact carburetor and get variations on holes sizes equivalent to what he had between those two.

As a trained machinist? You’d be the first to say that measurements don’t matter. In this case, rather significant ones.

Thanks for the information. I almost believed that I could do it but, I thought that they would be erratic on a 1406, at best. I appreciate the breakdown.

13:02 the holes on the Eddy tubes vary in position and are not indexed. These bench reviews, with no part drawings and design specifications, are highly misleading.

I'm testing a Chinese imitation of 1406 on my Mopar 318, I haven't had any problems yet and the version I'm testing has the side fuel level windows and an additional "improvement" is that it has external float adjustment! Before assembling it I adjusted it as if it were an edelbrock 1406 and so far I have had no problems, I have been using it daily for a month or two. greetings from Mexico.

The question is, have you tried to tune it yet? And I did a review of that carburetor mid last year. I’m familiar with how bad it is.
@jeffersonscotlogan666
@jeffersonscotlogan666 10 ай бұрын
I already tuned it, they even stole the famous "edel-bog" and I corrected it by moving the pump rod to the next slot closest to the airhorn... I have a spare original edelbrock to replace it when the "Edelblock" fails, Yes, the quality is not optimal, the screws are not torx but all the pieces fit perfectly between them. It's junk but it works. Have you already tried knock off on a running engine?@@MuscleCarSolutions

@@jeffersonscotlogan666 I saw the dyno results on two variants of that carburetor and have the tuning data. Erratic was the word used to describe it. Curious what your set up is and what the final rod/jet/spring combo you chose?
@jeffersonscotlogan666
@jeffersonscotlogan666 10 ай бұрын
I installed it as they sell it, as the average amateur buyer without a workshop would buy it, it comes with .98" / .95" jets, .075 x .047 rods, 4" springs. My question or doubt is why does Chinese garbage cause burning my rear tires?@@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 10 ай бұрын
@jeffersonscotlogan666 so you didn’t tune it. No need for a workshop. Simple hand tools and a calibration kit is all that’s needed. But they don’t offer a kit for those knock offs. So you’ve just learned to tolerate it as it is. Which sadly most do with a carburetor install. They don’t know what the full potential looks like. 🤷 In this case, that’s impossible as the thieves haven’t figured out why they need to steal the calibration kit also.

Just say NO to knock-offs. I inspect parts like those daily, and I wouldn't even have pulled my pin gauges out when I took those out of the package. I can see the cheezy-ness garbage with my naked eye. Fail! No need for an NMR on those things. 😁
