I used to be Mike. Lol. Now I am learning to underpromise and overdeliver to myself and everyone else. The trip was probably SO amazing on paper, but in reality I think that even getting to Peru as a family of 10 is an incredibly successful feat. Absolutely no shame in that game. And it's a sign of a strong man, not a wimp, to be able to make necessary changes to conform the plan to the people instead of the people to the plan. ❤️

Thank you for showing the highs AND lows. Social media only shows parents and families having perfect experiences, and as a parent it feels so unreachable and unattainable. Thank you for showing the reality of travel, it’s hot and messy and tiring, but thankfully usually worth it! Lol.

Thank you for sharing these tough videos. Everyone needs to understand that everyone has tough times, and tough situations in their lives. Thank you for being vulnerable. I would have enjoyed seeing the everyday videos when you were in Great Britain and Europe. I'm sorry you didn't feel you could share. I seldomly comment but try to always encourage people when they are being open, honest and vulnerable. I am so tired of people blasting others on the internet. If you don't like or agree, just keep it to yourself. You don't have to watch. Just go watch something that you do like! Safe travels for you and your family. 🙏💕

Well you kids.....My goodness, no whimpy people do I see! I think you're all amazing!!! We've been married 53 years and 29 moves with military and NOT ONE time have plans not changed during those trips/moves and life careers! Mike, no way are you a wimp! You're exhausted, climate and weather changes and all the driving along with sleep deprivation, time change and seven children in the mix and I would call you a champion!!! It's the journey to enjoy and often the destinations change. You'll feel better with some sleep and food and leisurely rest and exploring! Kids are so adaptable and they will remember the excitement of the trip and the places they see, but won't know the fatigue of the road as you do. You are both hero's in my book and to be able to make such fantastic trips is a gift in itself and I doubt this is the last one you will all take as you are a very active adventurous family! Instead of beating yourself up use that energy to patt yourself on the back and say "what an adventure we are having"....... not knowing where you are going to end up for sure is sometimes part of the adventure and some of the best memories and makes for laughter often times with some of the best memories! God bless, be safe, enjoy and B R E A T H E :-) Sorry for being so windy, I just hate to see anyone who does so much so often get down on themselves when they are anything but wimpy!!! Thank gosh for good supporting spouses!!!

Love your kids flexibility and yours. Real family adventures aren’t always perfect but again you’re so positive. It looks that’s the way you live” where’s the good.” Kids show it and they aren’t hiding behind their emotions like we as adults. Very good mom and dad taking a “rough” situation and making it good.

Such a real video today. Mike you are not a wimp. Being flexible enough to switch stuff up in the middle of your trip is amazing. I wish my husband could do that. It sounds like dropping 2 days of driving was the best decision. I can't wait to see the rest of your trip.

I understand the stress of traveling and trying to see more things in such a short time. We’ve learned through our travels to space out activities and allow everyone to get a rest. One reason why we prefer day tours than have whole trip tours. No time constraints and you see things at your leisure.

I agree when you travel you should always be open to changing your plans. It is something to have it in a drawing board and actually experiencing it. Just a friendly suggestion for planning for either this trip or future trips is to plan in down days. I learned this from all of my trips. A down day is just a day or 2 vacation for the vacation. You don't do anything but relax and kick back. Short local trips or even just vegging out at the hotel.
@CapeKat5 жыл бұрын
I was the planner for our trip with only two of us. It took us nine weeks to go from Caracas to Rio. We rode in busses, trains, a boat and a few planes like from Lima to Cusco and La Paz to Asuncion. This was in the late 70's when South American had few American tourists. We didn't meet a single one except some poor guy in Guayaquil who gave his luggage to a taxi driver who wasn't one. I think my favorite leg started in Cusco then we took the train to Machu PIcchu ( a local with a few stops but the only one in those days) then back to Cusco to take the train from there to the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. It was the most amazing trip. I hope yours too will be amazing, excepting the driving of course.

Props to you guys! My first whole family trip (with all 10 of us) was a Caribbean cruise. The cruise ship was like a whole city so we never felt cooped up. Our stops were for the beaches and one for church. The food (though always complicated with a large family) were easy with all you can eat buffets everywhere. Anyway, I can’t imagine an adventure like yours! I think my autistic daughter would have had a couple breakdowns by now. And remember, it’s not a vacation. It’s an adventure! Making memories.

That's one thing all the travel books don't tell you, how you need to decompress and rest. I read at least EIGHT books on England and France before going over for a five-week solo trip, and what I learned was that I needed an afternoon off every two to three days. You have to, or you'll get sick, and yes, that happened too! But allow time to rest and just chill. Awesome video.
