@7:13 - I have double monk straps shoes in gray, black, ox blood, dark brown, tobacco, cognac, light camel brown. Also, I just acquired a pair chocolate suede and "medium/dark" patina double monks from Magnanni: people gasp at how beautiful they are. Shoe collecting is just too much fun.
@DavidSaintloth6 жыл бұрын
Very important point about the DMS' comfortability to any type of foot. The height of your instep doesn't matter as much as you can simply adjust the straps over your instep accordingly and get the perfect fit in that regard...then only having the length correct is important which is easy with a proper sizing of your foot to the manufacturers size scale.
@mcspirit7 жыл бұрын
Would love if you could also cover correct fit of a shoe. I have worn many wrongly lasted shoes and even wrong sizes before acquiring the experience to know the fit of my foot and even still it is complicated by odd sizing of my feet. If others could be helped by a video rather than purchasing multiple pairs then they could spend their money on variety instead. Thanks for a great series. The Italian gentleman is on my Christmas wishlist.

Hugo, I could listen to you for days and weeks. And your suit is astonishing. I have a problem with getting the right shoes for my Diabetic feet. I have to use orthopedic insoles because my arches are reversed (the opposite of an arch). Do you know if there's any shoemaker that can make special shoes for my feet? I currently use Hush Puppies and they're alright. But nothing stylish and as beautiful as a pair of Derby's or Monk Straps. And I absolutely refuse to wear special Diabetic shoes that makes people look like Frankenstein.

Dead Hugo, what is the level of formality of double monk strap shoes? I think double strap is more formal than single strap. Sonya explained that the trend is growing stronger but I'm not sure in what way exactly. I see double monk straps with suits but I don't know if it can be as formal as the oxford and the derby. Any advice?
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Hi Stelio, I can only say the Italians love the single monk strap style and wear them at "most every level" of formality (minus semi-formal and formal, of course). This same comment could apply to the English in regard to the double strap, as the John Lobb "William" model can be classified as iconic. Personally, I find the John Lobb version to be almost as formal as the Oxford (and more formal than the Derby), but this is my opinion. Cheers! Hugo

Dear Hugo. My tailor says I shouldn't wear an Oxford or brogue for formal business suit. He says the instep is too high for the trouser break. What do you think?
@hugojacomet4286 жыл бұрын
Good morning ! That's a strange advice because the Oxford (and some elegant Derbys like the two-eyelet) a perfect for a business suit, with rather low insteps. I personally wear them with very formal suits. I even wear a two-eyelet patent leather derby with my bespoke Tuxedo. Hope it helps. Hugo
@PsicheViolata6 жыл бұрын
For the first question, there is no difference in formality. For the second question, it depends: In the office, with business casual outfit, they works very well; but if you have strictly formal business events, black tie events and marriages, always wear black oxford shoes.

hugo, what about the degree of formality of derby shoes. is it approriate to wear it in formal occasion? thx
@hugojacomet4287 жыл бұрын
Toni, it's explained in the videos series . An Oxford is, by definition, more formal than a Derby. But some models, like for example the two-eyelet derby can be formal (I personally have a two eyelet Arca Derby from Corthay Paris in patent leather that I wear during black-tie events). Best, as ever, Hugo

I love watching these videos and Whisky Vault videos....both make you feel happy about the fine things in life. By the way, "Derby" is actually pronounced as "Dar". Just like Gloucester is pronounced "Gloster" These are English names, not American, and thus should be pronounced the English way.
