If we’re taking these things to be an alien species watching over us, then it’s possible that they didn’t have any other way to communicate, we honestly have no idea what an alien species will be like, and their methods of communication could be entirely different from ours, particularly if their as advanced as this movie makes them out to be, in which we see them communicating psionically, an entirely different level of communication that we couldn’t even begin to understand or comprehend The numbers and visions really were the only way they were going to get this message across
@dontcare70863 жыл бұрын
Lol that is my main problem with this movie. The aliens didn't have to be so cryptic and creepy. Showing up in the middle of the night and standing over a kid is the worst way to earn their trust.
@thisisaname55892 жыл бұрын
@@dontcare7086 On the one hand, if I wanted to be obnoxious, I could argue that the aliens don't really care about earning their trust. They can do pretty much whatever they want, they're eldritch space monsters. On the other hand, it is pretty silly writing.

I noticed after rewatching this movie that this scene is very effective for a few reasons; a) it’s always impactful in a horror film when something/someone intrudes on a bedroom, a place that’s supposed to be safe and b) the Stranger enters the room at the same angle the boys father does several times in the film, foreshadowing that the Strangers will be filling the role of the children’s guardians later on. I’ve got mixed feelings about this film as a whole but Alex Proyas knows how to tell a story

I absolutely agree on that last sentence. I can’t say I had the same experience but that’s only because I am gifted in this regard but to call it horror is accurate. As a horror specialist, I have a very strong tolerance to horror but I can still feel when a movie itself is naturally scary. Knowing is a movie I desperately wanna consider horror because it’s just that good of a movie. It’s definitely predominately a Sci-Fi Thriller but thriller is honestly a cheater genre. I can be comfortable, albeit unstable, calling Knowing horror because it is the HORROR kind of thriller but if it means I can rightfully claim the film in the genre, I’d be totally happy to. It is another great specially genre-bending horror flick.

Year 2007 to 2009 movies are somewhat bizzare years for me (take that with a grain of salt). Firstly, these are really special years to me being a teenager at the time. But yeah going back, specifically you got this movie, then "I Am Legend", "2012", "The Day The Earth Stood Still", "Cloverfield", etc. where it makes you wonder "where in the world did the writers get their ideas?" and makes you think about life twice. Both eerily disturbing but full of foods for thought. Now that I'm a full grown adult and re-watching these films, rather than getting afraid (including those lil jump scares LOL), I simply take it as a reminder that, first, it's a film. Second, it's a chance for me to enjoy life and sunshines until the day comes I either cease to exist or the world I'm in ceases to exist.
