The Yvonne Boyd segment and fashion parade is actually a parody of a real event. Vivienne Westwood (whom Boyd is based upon), gave an interview on the chat show Wogan with Sue Lawley (1988) (which was at the time being guest hosted by Sue Lawley). During the interview, Westwood introduced some of her models, all of whom were wearing her new medically themed designs. Many of the studio audience laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of the designs, prompting Westwood to say,"If your studio audience don't stop laughing, I shall tell my models to stop coming out".

You guessed the Mrs Whippy right, it is or was an ice-cream company, at least Mr whippy was. You referred to him mentioning dogs and the tunnel, before construction of the channel tunnel there was always the worry of animals coming through the tunnel and spreading Rabies to Britain , which has always been rabies free. He would have been refering to Rabid dogs. The fashion designer is more than lightly based on Vivien Westwood, obviously the complete antithesis of Alan's sports casual mindset. Generally the whole show is parodying the English view that the French are bunch of pretentious pseudo intellectuals, once again everything that Alan is not.
