Chinese economy is a combined system of Socialism and liberal economy. Those major service and infrastructure sections such as water/electricity/gas supply systems, bank, transportation, education, hospital etc are all state owned. But China also has privately owned business and its scare is just huge. Thus, you can’t say be less of communist is reason for success. On the contrary, most the current success areas like national wide high-speed train system, highway systems, power supply systems, telecommunication systems are all national owned.

As a Chinese educated both in China and in western worlds, the more videos I watch about analysis of China on youtube, the more I understand it's nearly impossible for westerners to understand it. China is a whole different world. Each and every bit of its structure is anti intuitional for western mindsets, cuz there are so many concepts that are not even in western dictionary. Also Chinese society has extremely high complexity that one would understand naturally only if one was born in China or know complex Chinese language and stayed in China for years. Before my overseas studies in US Australia France and UK, I didn't realize I knew nothing about my country since I lived in a small town. Now after years of travel around the globe, accepting comments, praises and criticism over China, I decided to come back with pride. My country is soooo wonderful! If I have a next life, I want to be a Chinese again! 😘 And I'm certain that most Chinese people, especially those who had overseas experiences, has the same feeling🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳

As someone who was born and raised in China, had lived in HK and the US for quite some time before finally returning to China, I must say that China has a much different system than your typical 'communist' countries during the cold War. China has embraced much of the market-based economy doctrine, and a lot of its creativity and productivity today are driven by the needs of the market, and that's how it's economy has been booming in the last few decades. Of course the regime is far from perfect, and a lot of the typical elements of 'human rights' protrayed by the West might be missing here. But the Chinese people care the most about whether their life is constantly improving, one area where this current regime didn't fail its people. Under that premise, we don't care as much whether we have 'freedom of speech' or 'free media' or other things (although they'll be nice to have along the way). In general, people are largely supportive of this imperfect regime, as it has successfully and drastically improved the economy and people's quality of life in the past decades.

There’s definitely capitalism at work here for company’s daily activities. However, the government is still communism. It’s an unspoken rule that the CCP ultimately controls any company in the country. The most obvious way they show the world they control any company in China is when US wanted to buy Tiktok, if Tiktok is a truly independent company, China has no right to stop their sale. However, without consulting Tiktok they just denied sale immediately. It shows what powers they have over their companies. To stop the sale of any US companies, the US government have to go thru their Congress to cite national security interests etc to stop any sale. It’s all done with clarity. Unlike China, one word is final. China’s playbook is always prioritised as 1) to secure CCP’s power, 2) ensure growth in the country 3) people’s welfare. If China’s priority is people’s welfare first, they would not consider sending their people to potentially fight the Taiwanese for a battle that doesn’t benefit their people but the CCP. Who benefits the most from getting Taiwan? it’s CCP, the people are the pawn for them to achieve their objectives. What does the people get for unifying Taiwan? Deaths and false pride! @Mohammad Rahman North Korea hasn't collapsed due to China and Russia forcefully keeping it alive to prevent that. The Chinese specifcally don't want Americans and the South Koreans at their border. Korean empires and Chinese empires have easily incorporated areas of each other through that region specifically since the terrain isn't too difficult. This is why North Koreans are also capable of escaping through the northern border every year. It isn't one hundred percent safe of course. The Soviet Union was going to collapse simply due to stagnation. A huge portion of the world's economy was not dealing with the U.S.S.R. well and this required them to try and be self sustained. Corruption heavily plagued the U.S.S.R as huge military spending they committed too could not be sustained. It was a variety of factors but I don't believe Gorbachev killed it. It was dying way before he ever had hands on it. China for example is adapting by allowing capitalism but in a forced way to focus on its own markets. Not necessarily bad but Chinese innovations are not great and the western worlds technological advancement is still huge. China does take western technology and make it into its own though but this isn't the same as creating your own. I simply find this sad since China at one point was the technological marvel of the world. Now it is a country that looks to steal advancements in science as its own moves forward are fairly poor. It has people though and that's huge for it since the number will help its economy massively. Though India will likely surpass it at some point since India will have more people and is industrializing. China now has the concerns of an aging population which is why it is waging border skirmishes. As it only has so much time before its aging population become a massive tax on the system. A reason China is obsessed with land disputes to assure its economic holds. Such as looking for oil in the Senkaku Islands. Taking over Taiwan, controlling the Himalayas and building Dams, as well as using Uighur Muslims, Christians and Tibetans to make these groups more 'chinese' to use as their worker population will be suffering. China's biggest hurdle will be this aging population. If it doesn't have a healthy economy which is up for debate at the moment. It will suffer a myriad of social issues which is of least concern. As well as problems with numerous markets like housing which chinese middle class families have invested tons in. One of the only ways to do so but the poorly constructed buildings are another concern. China has been forcing its economy along and to look great but GDP numbers and such are untrustworthy coming from China. A capitalist economy wants to do better every single year and China is in a weird spot. Not necessarily being communist but also not being capitalist. It will be interesting to watch but I think China does have a time limit to secure itself or not.

Caused massive famines and both were incredibly well documented. Both did this to compete with the rest of the world but this was largely a failure in numerous ways. He is the human who has caused the most deaths in human history that were caused by decisions he made. China being independent is also a thing China has done throughout its history? That isn't something relatively new either. The problem was China had stagnated because it chose to be isolated. This made it fall behind and eventually be defeated by European powers. This is what caused the Chinese to have the unequal treaties as well as suffer massive drug problems due to opium usage. I just think you are over exaggerating its success. All these things would have certainly happened regardless of Mao Zedong or not. With him though it led to 45 million deaths or more. His industrial advancements were hilariously bad and you can see how much China lied to pretend they were being successful. Such as officials claiming to have more food than they actually had. Due to the rampant corruption though I believe anyone as well would have suffered the same way. Corruption in China has also been a huge problem before Mao took over and continues till today. I mean I have visited Mao Zedong temples within China and in certain locations he is revered as a God. Though, I would compare him more to Dong Zhuo than someone like Sun Yatsen who actually wanted China to succeed on its own. Sadly, his successors massively failed China in the end and have formed it into a dictatorship which oppresses its people. China right now is in a sad state. It isn't in a golden era like under Kublai Khan or such. Its advancements are not its own. It claims victories over things that are sadly not true and it suffers from corruption but to be fair numerous countries do. Though, China is so severe levels such as baby formula being poisoned with chemicals has happened and harmed infants. As well as food being done with chemicals is also normal. I honestly feel you don't know much about the industrial revolutions failures and what great harm it caused. The world was industrializing anyways. Whether Russia or the United States had influence. China was likely to insudtrialize anyways due to the world doing so. It may have been a little earlier or later without Mao in power. Overall though, he just failed at establishing a system that will help keep his country stable. From the one child policy, killing of sparrows in the four pests campaign and destroying Chinese culture. Which is sadly the largest destruction of any civilization in history since numerous ancient buildings, art, architecture, religious artifacts, tombs and etc were destroyed. Which is the second worse thing I believe Mao Zedong did besides genocide millions of people. That destruction he caused during his four olds campaign was much more severe than any similar events in history. Only Islam could compare really to destruction of religious shrines and temples during reigns and conquests of the Middle East and India. The destruction of the Baghdad Library and Library of Alexandria are not even remotely close to what we lost in China's own destruction of its own culture. I mean Mao Zedong wanted to romanize the Chinese languange. It was literally Stalin, another dictator that stopped him. He did this to control what history Chinese people can read. Since China's history is one of rebellion and that isn't something the communist party necessarily wants. The great leap forward has been known and studied a lot because it is interesting but a complete failure in how to actually accomplish 'leaping' forward. China eventually got there anyways but it didn't have to sacrifice as many humans and its culture to do so. I have visited China though and I truly love China. I feel the century of humiliation was horrendous to China. And China suffered greatly due to European and Western influence. It sadly took advantage of the situation. I do believe Deng Xiaoping was a much better leader. His policies were significantly more improved and impactful. I believe honestly he helped save the country and did a much better job than any recent leaders in China's history. Especially with the numerous problems it had been suffering. China has suffered a lot and is still suffering a lot. I honestly would love to see China succeed and be stable. I worry for what will happen in the coming years. Aging population is the greatest concern. Handling that is incredibly difficult without a secure economy. With India becoming the next China and industrializing rapidly. China needs to secure itself in the world but it is quickly making enemies and it is losing friends. I mean regardless of what happens with China I believe Confucius said it best. Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. I believe China has had certainly one of the most difficult histories in the world. So I do hope things go better for it as well as the communist oarty improves the lives of its people. There are many good people in China and they certainly deserve a country and government working for their interests. I only grow more concern as China sadly imitated a corrupt western system for its own. Rather than create a system unique to themselves. That was what always made China great in its past. It found its own way of doing so and did so with absolute great success.

I would say that “State-backed capitalist” is the best way to describe the modern day structure of the PRC; the leaders are most certainly loyal to the idea of communism (at least on a surface level), the actual structure of the country cannot be defined this way. The CCP can enforce whatever rules or regulations that they like at their own discretion and it is undeniably a one-party state but true communistic ideas is pretty rare to see anywhere in modern China

For China's case it was mainly Mao and the high government officials, for the eastern bloc it was usually the leaders and governmental figures+soviet governmental figures. Despite heavily subsidized public sector, the West continues to spread a false impression refusing to call Norway socialist so that they can continue to demonise socialism as "evil". @___ depends which province really but if you count the top 10 poorest provinces then the average income on the countryside will vary somewhere between 700-1500 RMB per month in dollars that is 100-220 US dollars per month. I did some volunteer work and quite a few of the countryside villages did not even have electricity. On the flip side if you go to the Urban cities like Shanghai it is full of millionaires. So yeah there is a huge divide in China between the Urban mega cities and the countryside.

As a Chinese, I'd say that it's very interesting for you to make this. In some ways CCP has learned a little from Ayatollahs of Iran, and, the creator, the Peronists of Argentina, to adopt a more 'flexible' ideology, while retaining power, influence and control becomes a more important purpose of the political party/organization, instead of a defined, strict ideology. One thing I think worth mentioning, is that this world isn't binary between communism/socialism and capitalism. In fact it's not even trinary if you add something more to the right, like Fascism. One ideology that in the West, especially in new world countries like America, may found foreign, but still play a large role in many other places, including China, is feudalism, or whatever you call it before capitalist revolution. (That's, surprisingly, a term that even Marx himself approved. Yes, he actually did recognize the progressive sides of capitalism, such as the birth of liberal democracy and enlightment, etc.) Under that system, equality is overall not believed, and there's almost no such thing as rights, only 'privileges'. And there is a hierarchy of privileges, with top political leaders having the most of them, and those are often lifelong and heditary. Thus everything, literally everything, can be revoked for various reasons, an important one being insubordination. Including economic liberty, that's also not protected under such systems. Which is to say, that following this old feudalism structure (or I should say a somewhat modernized, 'neo-feudalism'), certain aspects, like absolute control of authority, no personal and social freedoms, and even government control over economy and denying of economic liberty to the most of the population, are actually shared with communism. Hence from a western perspective, coupled with the fact that China still call itself socialist/communist, many would automatically think in that direction and think about China as a communist regime. While in reality, growing up in China, I feel that this sometimes regressive ideology has been gaining momentum, almost rapidly, thanks to the re-establishment of social stratification (after allowing private ownership), eradication of extreme poverty (yeah that actually matters. Since few people are extremely poor now they might become more 'satisfied', or 'zhizu' in Chinese, and are less likely to think about things like social mobility, etc.), new and accessible infrastructure, etc. And I think that understanding that is important to understand what Chinese society really is today.
