That OG Definitley! Didn’t want to take away from the deeper meaning behind everything. At the same time I think he’s great at picking short, catchy phrases for his hooks, but at the same time he doesn’t lose the substance and deeper meaning. It’s a talent really - blending entertainment with substance 🙌💯

As someone who deals with OCD as well i believe that his fast flow switches is his compulsives to his obsessions. Especially last verse with the "So possessive" scheme, its like the intrusive thoughts are very loud there and his compulsives is to rhyme it like that.

This was my thoughts as well. Almost like the people in black are standing in line to accept God into their lives, once they do they turn white. These people in white with black balloons are asking for forgiveness for their sins (handing over their balloons/sins). Only thing I can't figure out is why it almost seems like a cult type behavior, not sure if that is what he was trying to convey?

Honestly NF is amazing in my opinion. He's a different breed of rapper, and musical artist. He's so different in his concerts too. Most people care about professionalism but he'll straight up stop a show in the middle of a song to make sure someone in his audience is ok. He's not concerned about image. He just makes his music, does his shows and goes about his life in the way he sees is best.

The fact that he is not handing in his black shirts or anything seems to represent that he is still struggling with his issues by himself and doesn't want to talk to anyone about them and seek help, hence the "Leave Me Alone" He's then giving up the balloon at the end to a higher power as a way to share or give his burdens away, overcoming his struggle and taking the first step.

I think we will see several more videos that follow the search. Technically, we have seen 3 so far - 1-Why (introduced the balloons and cart), 2-The Search (introduced us to his mental breakdown, people in white with less balloons and OCD. Plus explained the balloons are his burdens), now 3-Leave Me Alone (he reaches a "mental enclave" where the people in white are from and learn the balloons are full of doubts that talk to him and do not want to change (represent the voices in his head). My guess is we will see one or two more albums that have more videos that follow this pattern of him trying to overcome or control his OCD and invasive feelings until he reaches that 7 letter word (freedom?) he talks about in this album. The wild thing is we are seeing a movie in several parts, each with its own cliffhangers.

It’s about the struggles he has from living with ocd. He says he “obsessively obsesses over things he thinks about” and he says “ruminating” a lot which is to think deeply about something which is what ocd is; thinking about things so much because you’re afraid of what will happen if you don’t. The balloons represent these thoughts, he wants to “let 'em go and watch em float away, but he’s scared if he does, then he’ll be more afraid”. Also he says he “Does the same things, if he doesn’t he’s overwhelmed”

This is my theory! Ok so when Nathan is saying " Remember back in no name I said fame called. Told you I hung up, it kinda felt wrong. Finally called him back we didn't talk long." When he's saying that he's in a building with some people laying down and sleeping. Then he hops out his cart and walks to a girl on the floor. Before any further lets go back to Perception. He said in the song "Remember this" "I fell in love with my pain, and slept with my regrets, Happiness saw it happen maybe that's why SHE up and LEFT. Joy called me a cheater said SHE ain't coming BACK. Alright lets go to "the search music video" He walks up to a girl laying down on his swing. He pokes her but nothing happens. But you can see she has balloons. He tries to wake the girl up again but she is responding. We know from Perception his Happiness and Joy are GIRLS. So those 2 girls may be happiness and joy. So he is trying to wake them up thinking they'll come back. But if happiness and joy don't have anywhere to go after they left Nathan in his mansion. They probably just hid in his mind in a place they know he wouldn't want to go in. So when they were in that place they got burdens of their own maybe. Probably regretting leaving Nathan alone with all his problems. But then in the song "Trauma" He says " Grab my hand i'm drowning I feel my heart pounding." Which mean he wants happiness or Joy to grab him and help him up. Then he goes on saying "Why haven't you found me yet?" Which is him saying i'm right here, why can't you see me. I'm right in front of you. Then he later says " I hold you so proudly, Trauma's they surround me. I wish you'd just love me back." Which could be him saying I hold my happiness up when she comes around but then my traumas get to me and then she out of the picture. So he wishes his Happiness could love him like she used to when he was growing up. Just my theory. I'm sorry it had to be so long but Idk It's just my way of thinking and I have so much more theories about "The search" album. Like I just love to play attention to his lyrics and music videos! Have a nice day!!!

To answer your question: he doesn't sit in the shower and lyrics pop into his head. He sits in his closet and writes and writes and writes. He's said it before in interviews (and gotten laughed at, and he didn't react well. I don't know if he's mentioned it since).

I'd like to think that the hand at the end is him showcasing the hand of God and that he's giving his emotional baggage and pain/suffering to god. I think that's what the hand symbolizes. Also to note that white symbolizes hope (you should notice this in NF's new song "Hope" as he's wearing white.)

When he sat in the cart, the other guy was I believe Nate in the future. I thinks he's the same guy from let you down which is obviously Nathan when he's older. I think what that was representing was how he DOESNT want to be. The old guy has all those black balloons at that age. Nate was scoping him out. And then left after one last look back. What if he was basically saying "I don't want to have all these problems (balloons/doubts) when I'm old. So I'm going to work on becoming better". Which would connect to handing that one balloon over to that hand.

This song has so much to it. Something that's lost to a lot of people is how much if this correlates with one of the things Nate struggles with: OCD. In my own battle with this disorder, this song was such an anthem, screaming at my thoughts to leave me alone. While I think the shopping cart is definitely emotional baggage, the balloons are, I feel, what he had filled with doubts and anxieties (I.e. "fill balloons up full of doubt", "do the same things, if I don't I'm overwhelmed", pretty much that entire section of the song outlines the symptoms of OCD.) He's trying to let go of his OCD driven doubts and what-ifs but he's terrified that if he does, everything he's afraid of (his obsessions) will come true. I swear, this man saved my life so many days with this song; it made me fight back against OCD instead of giving into despair. Great analysis, as always. 👏

At 4:20 fast flow + articulation... I caught that when I was learning to rap The Search... I was having problems when I’d get to “I can be critical, Never typical, Intricate with every syllable” I’d be saying “ev’ry” but he’d be grammatically correct and say “Ev-er-y”.. every syllable.. I love that he did that.. that line was basically telling me how to pronounce “every”. You lose that one syllable and your flow jumps the track.
