Just want to add that when he said “Mama developed a habit” at 14:46 I think part of this song/personal letter to Hailie, he tries to explain to her the reality without badmouthing her mother. Part of it to protect Hailie possibly from judgement from the world and walk with shame that her mother had a bad habits. Also to protect what little dignity was left for Kim (even though she was mostly viewed in a negative light). Saying developed a habit was enough to understand, saying anymore would be like stabbing a knife into someone and twisting it around. The way it was said, there’s no anger, retaliation or motive to humiliate anyone. It was just him stating a sad reality.

I LOVE how Eminem is able to express such complex emotions in his storytelling. One song I’d really love you to cover if you get chance, just to get your perspective (you hear different instruments and layers that I’m not trained to hear at all, and doubles, triples quite often) is love the way you lie. How he puts into words that toxicity and the drive of the adrenaline surge and how one minute you worship the person and the next you want to run as fast as you can, Is something I’ve never, ever seen any artist be able to do. I was 22 in 1999 when I had my second daughter (feels!), working two crappy jobs to maintain an old crappy apartment, same haircut as Em, though I had a leopard-print dye job for a while! Lol, and my partner at the time looked kinda like Kim... Weird, I never made that connection, but some of those video clips, if I squint, seem very familiar... Keeping the food on the table with no hope of improving our lives... Until I found a way to get funding for college to get through a Computer Science program and decent job... I relate to the ups-and-downs too - every time I got a step ahead and gained a little hope, something hit and the money was gone. Realized a few years later that we were $60,000 in debt due to hidden credit cards... I took to Em’s music because of the intense hatred I felt toward my ex, who was a great mom, but no trust and no hope eroded our connection... 🥺

Was a freshman in college when this song dropped. It didn’t move me back then. But now, as a working mother of 2 kids, I can imagine how hard it was for Eminem having to juggle his success and raising his daughters. As many other working parents, I often feel guilty having to leave my kids to go to work, especially seeing my youngest (2 y.o daughter) crying and asking for me to stay. I imagine it was ten times harder for Eminem since he had to go for a long time being on tour and all that stuff. I knew it was stupid of me to watch this breakdown while waiting in doctors’ lounge, but I can’t help it. So, yeah, had to go to the restroom a couple of times to wipe my tears watching this :p Great job as always, wishing you all the best for your career and your family 🙂

I found you through your Eminem reactions and subscribed a little over a month or so ago. I'm trying to catch up on a lot of your content and just reached this reaction. Mockingbird is one of my favorites from Em. I became a parent very early in life and struggled a lot with supporting my child alone. I've empathized and sympathized with quite a bit of Eminem's parental approach. When the father re-entered the picture and became a more active part of my daughter's life, he abused that privilege by inappropriately touching her where he shouldn't and had her do the same to him. I'll let your mind fill in the blanks. Eminem's portrayal of Kim in this video makes a lot of sense when you consider their relationship, how he did, does, and will always feel about her. I loved my daughter's father wholeheartedly. A piece of me still does. We had a lot of great times together. Much like Em and Kim. However, those don't translate to parenting. Eminem even has a song, 'Bad husband', where he talks about being a good dad but not a good husband. These two aren't mutually exclusive. My daughter has seen the awful side of her own father. She knows who he is at his darkest, deepest depths. Regardless of that, I will still never bad-mouth him to her. That isn't me condoning his behavior or understanding it. It's me being the bigger person. Do I want to be? No, not always. But I want my daughter to remember that regardless of what happened or what the future holds, words matter, and they have power. If he chooses to bad-mouth me in front of her, well, that says more about his character than I think he wants. I believe that is what Em was doing here. Yes, he has torn Kim apart, but those are songs he's using to vent. This is a letter to Lainey and Hailie. He's not going to bad mouth Kim here (even though he alludes to it) because she's their mom. Kids pick up on these things. He admits to being a brat (in the politest of words) and that he didn't always do the right thing. When Hailie gets older, she'll see the good, bad, and ugly both Em and Kim did and were. That's just my takeaway when I hear this song. Kim and Em have had a horrible history. He's open about that. But in reference to his kids, he's always going to sugarcoat things, though only slightly. It is still Eminem lol.

As a kid listening to this song made me cry because my dad was never around. No calls, no birthdays, no Christmases (unless I asked my mom if we could spend it with my uncle who hosted parties), nothing. My mom was always there and songs like this have made me question why my dad abandoned me or just didn't want me. Now here I am at age 29 with my mom gone and my dad is still alive. It isn't fair.

Please do reaction to Bad husband, it is an apology to Kim and he actually mentions situations from Mockingbird.

I came to your channel around a month ago because of your Blackpink reaction videos. Now I guess I'm here to stay. Subscribed and listening to your songs on Spotify. All the best Knox! With love from Malaysia ❤️❤️❤️
