CP and ChrisCas turned me into koken a long time ago. It’s really high quality tools. I enjoy using everything I’ve gotten so far from them. Hey cp, are koken deep sockets shallow broach? I’ve been looking to pick some up but that’s one issue most people won’t know about.

The nut grippers are I thats a good question if the normal zeal sockets are.
@MarzNet256 Жыл бұрын
I think it's to keep nuts from sliding too far down into the socket, which can make it difficult to get them started. Sometimes you might want a deeper broach on a deep socket for tighter spots.

New Zealand was actually one of the first countries to import Koken tools. I’ve been using them for over 40 years and they are every bit a good as my Stahlwille and Snap-On socketry. Not cheap here anymore but still great value for professional use.

Just a shady tree guy in the UK Chris first showed me Koken a few years ago. I have a few bits, the wobble fix have great articulation compared with others. Look for the really short ones first, my 1/4" is about 27mm long and is one of my favourite tools. The position of the knurling onto the fat part of the extensions is a game changer, you can get much better grip. I am on Amazon JP all the time now, it is a whole other world! Tone ratchets are also worth a look, Tone tools are really good value. I have known about the quality of Japanese tools for decades due to purchasing Japanese carpentry tools many years ago. They would never knowingly produce anything in Japan that isn't the best they could possible achieve, it's all about philosophy rather than all about profit.

I bought my old Koken 45 tooth roto head and 12 points new at a swap meet back in 09. If anyone has doubts about longevity, their chrome holds up really well, only have some faint scratches from use, as for teeth, I’ve stripped them exactly zero times, use to use it to break lug nuts for years. I was young and poor, only had a handful of tools, had to use what I had back then, and these held up the whole time.

I miss nut drivers! And I’m mad I let my first set go. Now I can’t find anything like them. My nut drivers were some generic ACE hardware brand. Full set SAE and metric no skip. What made these nut drivers standout was the handles. The handle ends had a 3/8 socket!

I had to use both a wobble fix (Koken version of wobble plus) and Koken Zeal wobble/universal joint on the same job yesterday. The wobble fix is at least as good as Snap On’s wobble plus and the Zeal wobble/universal is in a league of its own. Koken is such an awesome company. The only issue I’ve run into with a Koken tool is their lug nut protective sockets that have the extension built in. Not because it is inferior in any way. Because the tolerance is so precise that if the lug nut is swollen at all, it’s a pain to get it out since the shaft prevents you from tapping it out with a punch.

@CP The Tool Addict.. I think the hand tools that japan used to export in the 1980s - 1990s to the usa. We're of less quality than the tools produced for the domestic Japanese market. That is the reason my dad used to say that japanese tools are junk... we know that makita does this today.

Awesome review on awesome tools. I have the Koken 3/8 nut grip sockets 10,12,13,14,17, and 19 and they are fantastic. A far more elegant solution to a dab of grease or a piece of cardboard to try and hold a nut in place in awkward places. The only problem with Ko-Ken is I don't have enough!

What's wrong with Palmac? It looks like they just drop ship Ko-ken tools from the Ko-ken USA warehouse and have discounted dealer pricing. I only see Ko-ken USA, DRPD and Palmac as the main authorized dealers for the USA. DRPD and Palmac have better pricing than Ko-ken USA. Also, Ko-ken USA only warranties products bought from USA dealers. If you buy from Amazon Japan, you would have to deal with Ko-ken Japan. I'm sure it's the same for KTC/nepros too. The pricing from Japan is very good, but because of quality control issues and warranty coverage, I will stick with USA dealers. I find it odd that MrSubaru buys from Amazon Japan, but then mentions discount codes for USA dealers in every video.

Warranty It's not somethe Japanese tool market really has
@davehaggerty3405 Жыл бұрын
@@branned All tools can break. But it usually involves a hydraulic press. Of all the stuff that happens to tools: Theft Loss Wear Breakage is the least likely. And requires a wrench extender, socket adaptor or a hammer to break it. And breakage is what warranties cover. Unless the tool shows signs of abuse. Warranties are over hyped.

@CPthetooladdict Жыл бұрын
Weird question
@dmdm9198 Жыл бұрын
@@CPthetooladdict no it isn’t weird, not sure if you know what a bodyman is? Basically collision or classic car restoration worker. Sockets get used hard when removing rusted bolts, metals shavings get in the sockets, sockets get hammered, sockets get exposed to heat,sockets get exposed to solvents etc. snap on thrives in this type of abuse which makes life time guarantee great but initial buy in is high. Koken seems to be cheap enough where it won’t hit my wallet hard when I crack a socket. If koken is on par with snap on quality then I would give them a shot. Any thoughts?
