@Steve Ibrahim the game is about winning. Tell me who in history has 5 rings. LeBron went to 8 straight finals but he's only 3-6. Kobe has been in the West going against the Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Nuggets, etc. Leading his team every year since 2004 and you look at the man's stats, probably not remembering his Achilles went out in 2013 and he still played until 2016 as a weaker version of himself, which brought down his career shooting percentage. I think Skip Bayless said it best when he said that Kobe became one of the biggest advocates for basketball after he retired. I would add that his influence goes beyond basketball, and that’s why so many were affected by his passing. That level of commitment, work ethic, and desire to give the best of yourself to something is universal; many people were inspired by and gravitated towards Kobe because of those things.

I don't think it's wrong or hypocritical for JW to respect and mourn the loss of Kobe. I think he had a harsh opinion of him while he was playing, and then re-adjusted that opinion accordingly based on Kobe's post-NBA life. I don't have a problem with that. The thing that troubles me a bit though is that Jason is looking outside of himself for inspiration. It's a form of hero worship and takes us out of ourselves. The amount of emotion he feels also seems to be correspondent with the lack of a nuclear family that he's been unable to create. Perhaps what he's really mourning isn't the loss of Kobe and his family, but the sober realization that he has a void in this part of his life.

@Michael T Begged to be traded? Maybe you weren't paying attention - The Lakers were wasting his prime with players that would be out of the league within 3-4 years (Chris Mim + Smush Parker). The Lakers arent a tanking or rebuilding team and he was absolutely right to put pressure on a complacent front office. How is someone 'gifted' a couple titles? There isnt ONE controversial series or game out of any of the 3 straight years they went to the finals. If you are referring to the Gasol trade the Lakers were a 1st place team prior to the trade they just needed a big to replace Bynum when he went down. And that trade was an equal trade - Memphis never won a playoff game with Pau but paid him 50M but post trade with Marc Gasol they made it to the WCF. Nice try again

Kobe Bryant effected 100's of millions of people, in 1 way or another. He was beloved for being a fierce competitor on the court! The hardest worker in the room regardless what career path he was on. He gave it his all and never backed down from a challenge, he embraced it! He inspired people to be the best you can be. He led by example he didn't just talk the talk, he walked the walk! From being the best basketball player humanly possible. To being the best girl dad humanly possible! He took pride in everything he did. He put in the time to become great in everything he embarked on. He's done things that's never been done before! He set a standard that might never be met again. He spoke several different languages fluently and even learned to play the piano. He won 5 Championships, MVPs,18x AllStar, countless and Awards! He won an Academy Award, Emmy, Oscar and Espys! Player of the Decade(2000's), 2 Olympic Gold Medals, FIBA Gold medal! He scored the 2nd most points ever in NBA History w/ 81 points(as a guard). IMO his 81 point game is the best game in NBA History. NTM he outscored an entire team by himself Kobe 62 - 61 Mavs through 3Qs! He sat the entire 4th quarter bc they were up 20+ or he may have scored 90! Hes scored 42 points on Jordan by halftime! He scored 55 points in a half against the Raptors! He could have scored 100 points if he started the game trying to score! He was forced to score to win the game! People have no idea how special he really was! If he started like he should have his first 2 seasons.. or didn't tear his Achilles.. He would have been the NBA Scoring Leader All Time Guaranteed! Kobe Bean Bryant was special in multiple career paths! He inspired 100's of millions people all over the world! More then any of us will truly ever truly know! We got to see different sides, versions, personalities and fazes of Kobe Bean Bryant. I liked the family Kobe as much as any of them!

even the HATERS know deep down that KOBE is the GOAT!!!!....I think of my competitive friends growing up...they were slow to give me props as being the BEST(shortest..fastest..strongest..most skilled)...even today..a FEW of them will recall my prime...but they ALL know deep down I was a beast in WHATEVER!.......I'm GOOD with that...and KOBE was also.....for the truly GREAT...you do NOT have to keep "saying" it......#nowordsneeded

By Far not even by a close margin. People are over looking the fact his death was and is now part of his impact on the world. Tell me one other human in the last 50 years that moved so many Athletes with his passing. Get the eff outta here to all those who act like we re prisoner of the moment. You cant use death as prisoner of the moment that relates to winning and success. People act like the way he passed will some day change status. Unless u develop Amnesia it wont.

We're reaching now...in a minute he's gonna be like a religious figure. He personified things that've been around FOREVER. The so called "mamba mentality" isn't new, and didn't start nor will it end with him. We're caught up in the moment, trying to deal with the devastation of losing a great man. But to say he's the most inspirational athlete to come along would be like saying he was the most important person who died in that crash...and it's just not the case. Maybe we should just remember Kobe for what he was and stop trying to make him something he wasn't, because what he was...WAS ENOUGH.

@SuperPunch76 Its got to be Curt Flood. He made a stand that Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, Bob Gibson, Wille Mays, or any of his peers did not have the guts to do. He is the father of free agency in baseball which trickled down to the other sports. All professional athletes owe a debt to this man that they can't repay. It is a shame that none of his peers would back him up and he took on the owners with Marvin Miller and eventually one. Arthur Ashe is also on that list with Curt Flood.

He was more inspiring then MJ.. Jordan was so distance from everyone and wasn’t much of a family man like Kobe. Kobe was not only loved in LA/ America but Kobe was a global Icon. Kobe was such a smart human being won a Oscar and had so much more to do in his next chapter.. sadly he was taken away from us too soon. I love MJ but Kobe in my eyes inspired more people.

He render the 2nd biggest econimal country in the world admist the Corona virus outbreak he was the story he rendered that country in tears. Not only China every other country, Jordan was inspirational but when you put him to Jordan or LeBron Kobe beats them easily. None of these men are or ever will be Ali. Ali actually stood for what he believed in and sacrificed in more ways than one. Lebron nor Kobe have have been willing to sacrifice their money or freedom.
