2007 Western Conference First Round Game 1, April 22, 2007 | Steve Nash and the 2nd-seeded Phoenix Suns kick off the playoffs against the visiting 7th-seeded Los Angeles Lakers and NBA leading scorer Kobe Bryant. Neither star would disappoint in a relatively low-scoring contest between the league's #1 ranked offensive team and the best individual scorer in the game. After a blazing hot first half by Kobe in which he dropped 28 points (11-17 FG), he cooled down significantly in the 2nd half due in large part to excellent defense by Raja Bell. Kobe scored just 11 points in the second half to finish the afternoon with 39 points on 15-33 shooting. On the other hand, Steve Nash had another nice outing all in the flow of the game. Although he shot an uncharacteristic 7-17 from he floor, the 2-time MVP contributed with 20 points & 10 assists as the favored Suns pulled away in the fourth quarter, winning the game 95-87 and taking a 1-0 series lead.

This my first time every seeing highlights of this game. It looked like Kobe was cooking in the 1st half, then just like game 7 of the playoffs the previous year he tried to get his teammates involved and they couldn't pull out the win. Also I heard the commentator say he missed 11 of his last 12 shots which meant he was trying to pull his struggling team to victory but he obviously couldn't do it all alone. Oh yeah also the Lakers defense was trash, you can't give Nash a wide open 3 wtf was wrong with them lol

Kobe's final season without Shaq/Pau and he still couldn't get past the 1st round.

Dude, he had a shitty team, what do you expect? Next year, they get Pau and they make it to 3 straight Finals. All Kobe needs is one other great player beside him and Lakers are contenders every year.

Realist2192 It's always a team effort, because when Kobe has played like shit, his teams still win. The Mavs had Kidd, Chandler, Marion, Dirk, 3ball and an amazing coach, probably the reason the Mavs went to 7 vs Spurs this year - Carlisle is a top top coach in the league. Team efforts = nothing.

It's so ridiculous how people still don't understand that NOBODY can win a championship alone. What did Jordan do without Pippen? Look at his supporting cast. Pippen is a Hall of Famer, one of the best defenders of all time. Steve Kerr is the most accurate three point shooter of all time (statistically). Toni Kukoc is one of the best sixth men of all time. He also had the best rebounder of all time for the last three (Rodman) and an all star big the first three (Horace Grant). Duncan has had a consistent cast his whole career. Magic and Bird both had all stars around them. Stop talking about "oh without these players they couldn't do anything." Of course Kobe couldn't do go anywhere past the first round without Shaq or Pau. His supporting cast in between the two was awful.

Trash offensively? He averaged 16.1 points per game in his career, including his last 5 years in the league when he was out of his prime, and 17.5 points per game in the playoffs in his career. That's hardly trash. Pretty much the rest of the basketball world recognizes that Jordan had a great supporting cast when he won his titles, so arguing otherwise is really just ignorant. Like I said before, NOBODY can win a ring carrying an entire team, you always need help. That's why it's a team game. So I don't really know what you're trying to argue here, because you also say that 96-98 was weak, which is was, showing that it was easier to win a championship during those times.
