When the storm sewers get overwhelmed streets will flood, but they drain within hours. What you didn't see is water going into homes and that's because our arroyos channel most of the water safely to the river. Unlike Texas, New Mexico invested in flood-drainage channels so you do not see homes flooding over and over like our neighbor to the east.

You are assuming the topography in all parts of Texas allows for the use of the same drainage systems as are found in Albuquerque. The reality is that when an area is flat, such as the high plains around Lubbock or in the low-lying areas such as Houston, water can be very hard to drain since the water gets backed up and there are not steep grades to drain water the way it is used in the drainage systems in Albuquerque. Lubbock has various ponds around the city that heavy storm water is directed to, but these have limitations too. Again, Albuquerque has the advantage of relatively steep grades and a river to direct water to.
WOW! thank you to all the first responders! Excellent reporting KOB4 thank you

I understand if you were already out in the floods and became stranded, but I saw people leaving in the middle of this rainstorm like idiots and then trying to cross areas that were clearly unsafe. This is so irresponsible and not only puts your life in danger but also drains the city's resources.

Yes - and let's ignore the climate change and unregulated capitalism

Storm events like this have been occurring well before "climate change" and the effects have as well. I would venture to say that you lack objective thinking.

@@nmelkhunter1 yes, like the highest temperatures ever recorded, and... You do get that this isn't a debate
@nmelkhunter13 ай бұрын
@@martinhumbleWe have a very small sample size of the temperatures, so yes I’m skeptical. Just remember, during the days of the Soviet Union they didn’t have any real environmental regulations and were big time polluters. Keep in mind too that a Republican president started the EPA. Again, lack of objective thinking.

My back alley became a flowing river and I had water leaking in through the sockets of my ceiling lights. Luckily I only had my table lamps on.

IF I remember correctly back in the 60s, beginning at tramway and juan tabo and Lomas when it rained.... the water would rush down using Lomas all the way to the university and downtown area like a giant arroyo. How many times back then was Lomas Blvd knee high or higher near many major Lomas intersections. I thought the huge, deep, concrete arroyo waterways built back then was supposed to take care of the flooding after a big rain or snowfall. ???

I wonder how many homeless die in the arroyo 😢. This is a great call to start building a reservoir. Great amount of water we being praying for.
