This is one of my all time favorites! I love how you described your skin in a video as reactive. Mine is the same. Whether it’s stress, emotions, or just touching or cleaning my face, my face and neck can turn into a splotchy mess. I have found that this foundation can be built up to cover my redness and discoloration. I have combo (t-zone mostly) maturing skin. This foundation makes me look years younger. I have found that setting the foundation is more important than the primer I use. However, where this foundation is truly magical is when it is mixed with other foundations. It can make the most matte and dull foundations look beautiful!

I have this foundation, and I have oily combo and I really like 🙂 It looks really good on you too , I agree is a light coverage and it feels light on the face for ir like a daily foundation , some times I mix it with a another foundation with a little more coverage and it does great. It does look beautiful on your skin. But your skin looks great even without makeup. I can't believe how light the color is to be the next to the darkest. My husband says that I need to stop watching you so much, cuz I always make a sizeable purchase after watching your videos! Haha! I ordered the choix box also! Koh gen do will actually customize a shade for you in this foundation.. it just takes like 2 months for them to create it.. kinda cool

So I've tried an interesting combo last couple days that I'm really liking.... I'm dusting my face with the toofaced ethereal powder after my primer, and then mixing my KGD with MD Perricone No Foundation Serum..... and because of the matte base I'm not needing to set my face outside of undereye and around my nose with my diffused light. I'm getting a super flawless look! I have found that the KGD on its own has been making my pores look bigger after a couple hours of wear (which is definitely weather related)... yesterday I even dusted a bit of luminous light all over for a sheen... and I gotta say it gave me a comparable look that the hourglass skin tint does! Lasted 8/9 hours with no fading or breaking up!

I realize this video is now 3 years old and I only found this channel recently, but I do love it here☺. Anyhow I just wanted to say with regard to the shade range being so poor we have to realize that this Foundation was made in Japan for the Japanese people and the shades of their skin are not as diverse as those in this country and we are importing there foundation and it is suited more for the people that live there and their skin Shades not ours. I do believe some shades have been added since this video was made but I'm not sure. Also hope I am correct about what I said about the foundation being Japanese and so forth but that was told to me recently.

I think this foundation is so pretty and wear this when I am wanting light natural coverage but it breaks me out every time I use it. It's weird because I usually never have that issue with foundations. Oh and thanks for talking me into the Kevyn Aucoin etherealist. I finally took the plunge at the VIB rouge sale and I think at long last I have found my number one! I literally had someone tell me I am aging in reverse. Best thing to hear ever!

Great review. I think you described it, and who it would work for, perfectly. I LOVE this foundation. It's one of my top two favourites. I have combo/oily skin, and do need to put a little powder on midday, but that's true for me with any foundation. Looking forward to your views on the powder. I'm considering getting it, and would love to hear what you think about it.

i have super duper oily skin and i still go through a lot of breakouts and i actually love this foundation so far based on the samples i've purchased. i don't even use a primer, just moisturizer. i find that because it has oils in it my skin doesn't feel the need to overcompensate and produce its own oil. i can't feel it on my face and it covers enough, i'm not one for full coverage even when i am breaking out. it makes me feel so pretty and glowy without being greasy.

Great review! I Love this foundation! FYI If you go on Koh Gen Do website you can get a sampler set where you can try different shades of this foundation for a couple bucks before committing to a full size ! I did that before purchasing and it was helpful. Do wish they had more shade to cover more skin tones though...

I got the samples today (medium), and tried all four shades. 123 is perfect for me. I don't think I've ever put a silkier foundation on my face! I don't know what the old version was like but this just glided on like a dream and the finish is gorgeous. It even covered some red spots on my nose. I've only been wearing it about 1/2 hour but I'll keep you apprised. So far so good!

Update - After 8 hours my nose was a little shiny but the rest of my face looked great. Even though I'm 63 I still have a bit of an oily T zone. I loved the way this looked on my skin. I will probably purchase it. The sent me a code for $10 from Koh Gen Do but I have a gift card from Sephora so that's where I'll purchase it from.

Shirlene Higbie - if you're in the US, you can buy a set of samples for a few dollars directly from Koh Gen Do. I'm in Canada, so that wasn't possible for me. I emailed them though and told them my MAC shade and they recommended a shade for me, which turned out to be a good match. I'm probably not the same shade as you, but for reference, I'm MAC NW20 and I'm a 013 in this KGD foundation.

Received my KGD today!!!!! It is actually better than I expected. I kind of struggled with the color because I know they run light and lean yellow. According to Beauty Professor, me being NW20, I would wear 013 and yet I kept thinking that has to be really light....I went with the 123 and to my ever-lovin surprise it is pretty "spot on".....maybe a bit on the "darker side".....if that's possible but the foundation just becomes one with the skin and it's just sooooo pretty! Doesn't even look like foundation. I was even more surprised that it was (for me) almost medium coverage....I don't use concealer. All and all I am so glad you tried it and I FINALLY got it! I have been wanting it for years! Didn't get to wear it to long as it came FedEx and came this afternoon. I am more than pleased with this foundation!!! Love it! xxoo

I do love it, but it's so different from the Synchro Skin that it's hard to compare them. I don't plan on parting with either anytime soon. :)

They are so different. I thought that as soon as I put it on. Fortunately I am fair/light skin tone so the color choices are there for me. I tried the 013 today and felt it was spot on and almost identical in color to Neutral 2 of the Synchro Skin.

Hi Mandy! I see you are a pro makeup artist. Most people who do reviews are regular people looking for their personal makeup. Would you use recommend this product for your kit specifically for bridal? I have all the Kevyn Aucoin SSBE and love them but on dry skin they are a nightmare. I also have the Makeup Forever F&B but want to replace it with something else. I am looking for a foundation for textured/dry skin. Would you recommend this one?? I am also looking at the Face Atelier and see you keep that in your kit as well. Thank you!

Hey Veronica...I do like this foundation, but I find it works better for photo shoots than brides personally only because typically my brides want more coverage. However, you may get a sample of it and try mixing it with your SSEs. That might actually make a beautiful, higher coverage. long lasting finish. I have to say my all time fave foundation for dry skin is Face Atelier...hands down the best and will ALWAYS have a place in my kit. Hope this helps.

I have oily skin and I have to use mattifying products to make this last 8 hrs... like a mattyfing primer and powder and setting spray. Having said that, it is a gorgeous skin-like foundation. This is the type of foundation where people will compliment me on your skin, not my makeup, because it looks so natural. Kind of like "your skin but better". I get those compliments with the synchro skin as well, but the synchro skin breaks up on me a tad uglier than the KGD. I use either foundation if I'm going to a shorter outing/event (not an all day thing) because they don't have the staying power due to my skin type. Anyways, just my 2 cents on how it's worked for me :)

Thanks! I couldn't pick between the two because they are really so different. This one is much more luminous than the Shiseido and has less coverage. The shiseido also tends to last on my skin a tad longer, but this one is more natural looking on the skin. I am sure that didn't help at all! LOL

Mandy, how does this foundation's coverage compare to all other BB creams? I ask because I really don't want to pay 60ish dollars for a BB cream when I could could spend alot less .. Also, you mentioned that the foundation in 123 was yellow base or were you speaking about the entire range of colors ? thank you

I haven't seen the entire range in person; just this one and then swatches online. They definitely have cooler options. It's just this particular shade that is yellow. I find that it is a lot lighter than most bb creams in texture and the coverage is light to medium at most. Hard to compare that to bb creams as so many vary in coverage. You can go to the Koh Gen Do website and order samples...that way you can try it without breaking the bank. :)

If you apply this with a flat top foundation brush, you will get a full medium finish almost full. This is the BEST foundation I have ever tried! I'm so sad that it did not agree with my skin type though. So disappointing! 😫

I tried the Ellis Faas skin veil foundation as a Choix sample and absolutely loved it. It costs $90!!! I just can't do it, even though I believe it was the best foundation I have ever tried. I have developed an abhorrence of super expensive, luxury cosmetics, I guess. I can afford it but just NO.

Oh, now I am so excited to try it! I got it in my Choix box too but it is super dark!! I don't think I could pull it off until summer but it feels amazing swatched! I tend to spend the most on my foundations since it's what I use the most of and does set the tone for the whole face, but I totally get not wanting to spend a lot of $$ on it. :)
