Also found the constant loosening very annoying so solved it by wrapping PTFE plumbers pipe thread tape on the thread at the sharpener and pointy end and then tightening it. Took a minute or so to get the amount of tape right as the tape stretches very thin and you can get a good couple of layers on for a perfect fit that has lasted me for years.

Did he ever mention what the actual problem is? I just got one of these pencils and if I unscrew the sharpener while holding the barrel it will unscrew the mechanism, but if I hold the chrome ferrule at the tip of the barrel it works fine. Is that the problem or am I missing something? It was a really long video to find out exactly no information.

Thought he’d show the inside mechanism and explain something more technical than saying ‘replace this to that’. It is such a large and NOT useful speech.

Teflon tape? Super glue? If the door on your space ship is broken, don't buy another space ship...but...I like that Cretacolor ergonomic lead holder...

Even though mine never comes loose, I found that the button/sharpener on top, has nothing to do with the screwing of the mechanism with the body. That means, that you can put a drop of lock tight or common glue, on the bottom part, where the mechanism attaches on the aluminum body by screwing in it, to ensure it will never come loose. That way, you don't have to spend any kind of money. and you also keep both the sharpening function and the ability, to change the leads from the top as we actually should do. The only thing you lose, is the ability to easily unscrew the mechanism and detach it from the main body, but I don't see the reason ever do that! PS: I never though, that Koh-I-noor lead holders, would be of that high quality! I was blown with it when I got it in my hands!! I just wish it was a bit lighter, so I could write or draw, for more time. My hand starts to feel some pain, after a while, but I still love this pencil a LOT !!! Enjoy!

@@coyotefoxtrot2832 You welcome! I love Faber Castell the most for the better performance and top quality, but Koh-I-Noor makes some decent lead holders too and more than that, they are different and no other brand makes that kind of unique and cool designs! Enjoy

Maybe you’d like the KIN 48 which seems similar but is lightweight plastic

@@reginaldforthright805 Do you mean the Kohinoor 5348? I own the 5340, the 5347 and it's smaller twin brother the 5344. It looks it would be a better performer, than all the other Kohinoors I own! I sharpen them, with a common M+R pencil sharpener for wooden pencils (when I use them for writing mainly, because for thiner lines and details, I use smaller pencils) It creates a concave tip, that lasts really long when writing! Do you use the 48 for drawing?

I have the same in silver, my only 5.6 lead holder. Very enjoyable weight. I also have this loosening problem, definitely a bummer.

These pencils are too beautiful for undoing. So the sharpener is for emergencies only.

Thank you for making this video. A shame that the 5340 has such a glaring defect, I hate to have to buy another lead holder for a part just to make mine work. Another thing, is the original sharpener on the 5340 useless, or am I just not using it right? It does close to nothing for my lead.

Can you give me an advice: I need some nice pen for everyday use of writting. I need not to sharpen it often and it has to write thin. I found your video and this pencis. Which one fits better for me, 5340 or 5347? Thanks for you answer

If you don’t want to sharpen get a mechanical pencil. You will have to sharpen these a lot

¿Por qué algunos llevan escrito "Versatil" y otros "Hardtmuth"? ¿Son el mismo modelo pero con distinta serigrafía dependiendo del año de lanzamiento? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Why are some written "Versatile" and others "Hardtmuth"? Are they the same model but with different serigraphy depending on the year of release?

How can you call it the best made, superior, all time super-duper pencil when it comes with such a flaw? Is it just because the outer casing is metal? I think that's a flawed reasoning. But thanks for the fix though.

I'm too old have tone of experience as an artist. This pencil is the best sketching pencil in the world. It also provides dexteritiy, control and precision, like no other. Since Kohinoor, also makes the best Red Chalk,/Sepia and graphite 5.6mm leads, considereing that they also make a ton of other ones too, as also the fact, that it can be sharpened with any common sharpener, which increases the versatility, of the strokes, from 0.1mm to 13mm, all these ataumaticaly, make this pencil THE most versatile and best performing pencil in the world.

Here’s a simpler fix : don’t use the sharpener 😂

Right! Why use that sharpener, which is there just in case, you find yourself far from home ,without one, when all common pencil sharpeners work and work way better?!
