This Kohler 25hp engine has been a headache since I got it and previous owners had same issue. I've had it worked on 5 or more times for not running. I'm hoping this will solve my problem and if it backfires and blows up, good riddance!🤦🤦😂😂😂

Hey, just wanted to say thanks. I truly appreciate the fact that someone is willing to take time out of their day to film and explain this sort of thing knowing there’s no reward and you most likely won’t even know and/or ever meet the people you’re helping. Great video. To the point and pure fact. Thank you. Oh yeah….one more thing…it really is astonishing to me how so many products cause cancer in California but not in any of the other 49 states…You saying that made me smile and gave me a “Things that make you go hmmmm” chin scratch : )

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!! My 25hp Kohler on my GT5000 Craftsman riding mower would only run opening and closing choke. When I removed fuel solenoid, the tip did not move like all the YT videos said it should, I could see holes were closed, but did not think to take it apart at the bottom. Old solenoid I think is just stuck from storing too long with gas. I ordered new carb and solenoid on that one looked just like old one with no spring movement. Now I know it is probably ok on inside and will test tomorrow with old Kohler carb that was replaced a couple years ago since new carb is a cheapie I basically got for new solenoid, gaskets, shut off and fuel filter! If it won't run I will do as you suggest and see if it runs without spring and post. Your video had all the answers I was looking for!!! Having lost 2 of my friends that did this work for me, I am doing the work myself with the help of YT. Amazing!!!!

I got the new carb with functioning fuel solenoid installed and mower runs better than it has in years. Only issue was wire was to short anfmd had to be lengthened! I think the last few carb cleans missed the stuck or sticky solenoid and it never did run right. Both mechanics have passed, so I can't discuss it with them. Definite design flaw and this will be first thing I check when things go south again! Thanks again for all your knowledge and for taking time to share it with us. I'll be watching!!!

Mine does not have the jet part on top of the solenoid like yours, I assume that is in my carb. Can I just remove the spring and stem like you did and reinstall the solenoid. I see some folks clipping the stem off but I think that’s because they are usually stuck. Mine aren’t stuck so I thought why not take out like you did.
@snoopdogie187 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the one I did wasn't stuck inside either. At least one of them wasn't. As long as you only remove the plunger and the corresponding spring, you are good to go.

"deleted my solenoid and it cranked right up" Yes, and then every time you shut it off, that big 22HP engine keeps sucking fuel into the cylinder as the engine slows to a stop. If there is any trace of red-hot carbon in the head - and there usually is - then your engine will backfire violently back thru the carb. Eventually this will damage the engine. Have fun with that. This is NOT a valid repair. They put the solenoid on there for a good reason; just replace it properly. (sorry about the "fool" statement!)
@patrickfutato655511 ай бұрын
Cool.
@billconserva14612 жыл бұрын
The idea of the Solenoid is for a good reason. Engineers aren't screwing with you and you aren't out smarting them. First, It's part of the Safety System. If you disconnected the other Engineered Safety items such as the Seat switch, that means if you roll over the machine, the Fuel will still flow. Even with all the other Safety Systems in place, you now eliminated one of them. You have no way of stopping Fuel flow when you shut the key off, unless you put a manual shut of valve in the line to replace the Solenoid. Many tanks are mounted higher than carb, so gas will always flow and if your needle and seat in the float bowl are not perfect, gas will flood the carb over time between mowing's. Part of the real regular maintenance is to clean the solenoid plunger, which most people never do. By the way, that passage in the solenoid for fuel, is not the Carb metering jet, it only controls the volume of fuel to the carb. So, why eliminate a good system, for lack of maintenance or at worst a lousy $15.00 part that usually last 5 years or more? Doing so you are working against yourself. Hey, Just sayin.
@patrickfutato65552 жыл бұрын
Well, 2 years later it still works. That’s something I couldn’t say for two weeks doing things the “right way”. So yeah, cool story.
@snoopdogie187 Жыл бұрын
Please explain then why all the older engines didn't have this, and we didn't have this issue. If you roll the entire tractor over, guess what, the fuel won't be leaving the tank through the hose that goes the carb, problem solved. It will be leaving through the tank lid though. Also, do you think it would be tied to the key then? I forget if it is connected to the seat switch also, but that isn't an ideal situation for making sure no fuel leaks if the tractor flips over. You also understand it is the job of the carb float to shut the fuel going into the carb? If that isn't sealing, you have an issue anyway, and that should get corrected. Can't say I run into that issue that often though. Well I do have it on one engine, but that engine sat a really long time. I should rebuild the carb, but I use it once or twice a year and always forget. You do know the solenoid is there more for emissions? It prevents small amounts of vapor from escaping? It prevents fuel running into the engine once the key is shut off, but you know the engine doesn't stop instantly. Not having backfire once the engine is shut off is also a nice benefit of not wasting this little bit of fuel.
@cron4103 жыл бұрын
It turns off the fuel while the engine is off, so it doesn't get flooded of you have a leaky fuel switch on a gravity feed tank. Kohler supplied these engines in a lot of different configurations, it's not needed with a fuel pump model. I can't believe the level of ignorance in this video, not everything is a conspiracy or govt overreach.
@patrickfutato65553 жыл бұрын
This model has a fuel pump, it is not gravity fed. Also, try to recognize a little sarcasm. Thanks for the good laugh.
