This means that every 68 seconds, another American is sexually assaulted. However, researchers know that the available data likely underrepresents the issue since many sexual assault cases go unreported.

This shows how society preys on women and children and tries to bury investigations. We didnt have much of cases or any critical cases needing monitoring that night. I went to sleep with another 2 female collegues in one of the wards with no patients. But the thing about these wards with no patients is..... nobody is on watch outside it and the door is always open.... I am a heavy sleeper coz i dont wake up mid sleep that easy. But that day my conscious was on gaurd becasue I unintentionally woke up every hour just to check that noone has entered the ward. My workplace actually is pretty safe considering the amount of security gaurds on work and the amount cameras present. But that day, after that incident. I have no mare faith in anyone if something happens to me. Finally the question in my head popped up..... is all my efforts until now really worth it?

However, i shoukd have listened, for one of those very same "homies" logged into my social media and stalked mine and my GFs messages in search of spicy photos which he got. It's horrible how I caught him, I had to do some log in investigation as well just to get the reciepts for the rest of the group to believe me. I'd bet anything that he still has photos downloaded to his device. He was my roomie... I moved out, I wasnt on a lease, he got fricked as far as rent goes. He's not safe to run into anyone in our group anymore. Secondly, during one of my parent's split ups, my mom got a boyfruebd who had a 14 year old son who'd babysit me when I was 7. He was too touchy. What Ive learned? If a man weirds you out, in any way, even "innocently" don't give him the benefit of the doubt. Now to speak for myself, 5 years ago when i was 18, my ex used to send photos of herself to a group full of girls who would all exchange similar photos. I told her to not, she said that i could do it with the boys though. I told her that im not attracted to boys like she is women. It didnt stop and i eventually peaked the chat. I immediately saw girls who I was supposed to be their friends. I exited and felt sick and realized that I did something horrible that will be deplorable to admit for the rest of my life. I told her and she let the chat know and I left all of their lives with humility. I like to think I'm a good guy...... I say this because even the concious respectful men can slip into horrible behavior based on impulse. I have not watched adult videos in years. I feel that it is horrible for impulse control across all vehaviors. Not to mention I dont get the impulse to do ANYTHING sexual to anyone. I feel i have grown and learned and i am super happy with my gf who can do whatever she wants without control. i only want to protect and provide for her. I do not know any man my age who hasnt at some point looked at a photo while KNOWING that the girl wouldn't want them to see it. Ive even been flashed such photos like "check out this girl im chatting up." I live in Utah USA (I'm not the steriotype though.) Ive talked a lot of my friends out of watching adult content while also engaging in critucal thinking. I dont know how else to do my part.

I'm very grateful to you for covering this case and making a larger global audience aware of this artrocity. I hope atleast this will put greater pressure on our government to make amends and impose stricter and harsher consequences on those convicted of any degree of sexual assault.

You know what's even more disgusting? Some sick people are getting "inspired" by this rape case. In Assam, another state in India, a group of 8 to 10 boys attacked a college girl. They teased her, snatched her , broke her bracelet, and when she shouted for help, they taunted her by asking, "Should we repeat the Kolkata case?" When the police arrived, they left the girl, saying, "See you soon!"

Why don't they fight for a better society ? Where are the kids defending women ? Here in the west if someone try to hit or harm a woman you have 20 person around screaming "wtf are you doing?". Why such thing doesn't happen in India ?

Thank you sharing this story, I am a doctor in India ,here are some of the ways the ways the Hospital has tried to bury it : 1. Immediately after the incident the parents were first told your daughter is unwell and later told she committed suicide. 2. When the parents reached the hospital they were not allowed to see the body for 3 hours. 3. When the doctors of the college got to know this , they didn’t allow anyone else to perform the postmortem and demanded they do it themselves with members of the college present 4. When the principal was questioned he blamed the victim saying a)“why was she there at night” b) “she shouldn’t have slept in the seminar hall” 5. When the principal handed in his resignation letter,he was not allowed to resign and was IMMEDIATELY appointed as the principal of another government college in same city which clearly shows he is being protected by the ruling party in Kolkata. He had to be prevented from taking up his post by the STUDENTS 6. During all this renovation had started already in the room just beside the crime scene, what was the necessity? So,e people in the hospital say that the incident actually took place in the adjacent room 7. Protests began among the doctors and the midst of all this ; on the the morning of our beloved INDEPENDENCE day ; multiple goons entered in trucks and destroyed the hospital and the room where the crime said to have occurred;also attacking doctors in the process. 8. The police found only ONE person apparently with the help of BLUETOOTH device ; when the postmortem report prima facie indicates clearly it was done by multiple people ; also her mobile phone is nowhere to be found. The person arrested has clearly said “I will not speak a word ; hang me” 9. Now the case is with the CBI and still no progress is being made. 10. To top it all of like a cherry on the cake : the leader of the ruling party in Kolkata: MAMATA DI as she referred to by her supporters has started to protest 😂 . who is she protesting against ‘herself ‘ ?…it is just a smokescreen After this incident a lot of doctors like me are losing hope . We do not see any value in our profession. The country disgusts us.

You can still visit India but just do your research and visit safer states. If you follow some of these cases you’ll notice a pattern in locations….such violent cases are usually in states with lower education, higher poverty levels and higher corruption. Even as an Indian myself, I’ll never visit these states. But for some reason tourists flock to these areas. Literally all of the tourist videos of India a few years ago just consisted of the slumps and dumps. People then have bad experience and tie the whole country into one stereotype. Only now have I seen people go to the beautiful areas in India. I’m glad people realize there are more than just 3 states in India. It’s sad that some states just ruin it for the rest of them.

Sorry but you say that as if the government putting harsher punishments is going to deter these sickos from raping women. This is a societal issue! I’m sure a majority of Indians would defend a family member even after they sexually abuse an other person. The only way to stop this kind of thing from happening is educating children to respect women, all women and in every way. Regardless of their religion, nationality, age, clothing, etc. If boys aren’t taught to respect a women, and that no is no, they will grow up to become rapists or potential rapists. When misogyny is commonplace in a society, a couple of laws or punishments won’t change much. Everyone is ‘infected’, from the perpetrators of the crime to the police, to the lawyers and judges. How can you expect the issue to be solved when the people who are in charge of fixing it are part of the problem themselves. You seem like a decent person who deserves to feel safe and live a happy healthy life. Having to worry about being sexually assaulted at random is not healthy at all. And sadly there’s not much you can do about it. I’d suggest getting the heck out of India and south east Asia. There are many, many places which are way more progressive and mindful of women’s rights and wellbeing, and that would be more than happy to welcome you, granted you choose to adopt the same progressive mindset. You only live once, as cheesy as it may sound.

EDIT: I'm adding this edit on the top part of my OG comment because this video is now banned in India, as the supreme court has ordered all platforms (including Wikipedia) to remove contents that directly or indirectly shows anything about the victim or the accused. I'm a pre-med student in India, and I swear this case has shaken us girls so much, that some of us are worried whether we'll have to bear the same fear when we become doctors. Young people over here are doing everything in their power to keep this case on the headline - social media campaigns, public rallies, hospital strikes, news reports. Thankfully this case is known everywhere in and outside India cuz that was they won't be able to sweep this under the rug and act like nothing happened. What made me sad the most was the fact that the chief minister of Kolkata, who is a women herself, told the public to "Stay at home and mourn if they want. Public strikes are not necessary." The hospital RG Kar even published a set of rules to be followed by female doctor for their "safety", ending the circular with "These rules are implemented to make sure female doctors don't feel like women." ...Seriously?? Thank you so much for covering this. The more global coverage this case gets, the more we hope the government implements new policies the government release for women's safety, that doesn't involve restraining a woman for her "own" safety. EDIT: Just because people have been talking about the country itself, cases like these don't happen all over India, just in parts of states where illiteracy is prevailing. I'm from South India, and I feel like it's more safer here (at least I find it that way). I blame this solely on people's negligence - from people doing vile things like this case, to the government not even talking about this anymore (As of Oct 2024).

@ma-pz4wki I have watched her other videos, and I was referring to a society, not their culture, that is why I said it happens everywhere. What we, as a society, are doing so far has not helped solve the issues but increased it. By not calling out the corrupt policing, ineffective legal systems and laws, unbelievable family defence, justifications and actions, and poor judgements from judges have all added to enable the perpetrators to continue without the need to take full responsibility for their action so it is deemed as acceptable as the consequences ,if cought, is not so severe. This affects all of us. Why not try blaming when we see these things happening, in the hope that the powers that be in these countries would be forced to look at changes and take responsibility . Maybe that is what is missing from all this.

As a child of retired MDs, and in whose country the violence against the medical staff gets frequent, I feel very distressed that violence against a doctor, in the work place, gets to this extreme point. From my point of view, the doctor was aware of the corruption and was trying to collect evidence, and they wanted to silence her in the most brutal way to horrify the others to attempt to do so in the future. Torture and SA in a seminar hall, with no witness around, requires a plotting, imo. I wish her family my condolences. Rest in peace, the shahid doctor. You were too good for the world you were in. Being from a typical Bengali household makes us curious to keep gaining knowledge and it is a part of every cultured Bengali's upbringing. In these years of growing up in my city, I felt a sense of security and pride that Kolkata was not like other cities. It is safe, it has always been safe and rebellious, if you go through history you will know. But now, it breaks my heart that we cannot take that pride anymore. It pains me that the soil gave birth to so many brave personalities who always fought against wrong, and made social reforms didn't wish to see this Kolkata and this India. We are still protesting and we intend to do so till we get justice.

An Indian origin lawyer here. You covered this case very well. You asked how did this shady guy get to work in hospital with no background check. Well in India you just need to know someone big- a political party, hospital chief, someone who sits in position in power and you are hired. Your sincerity is not to the job but to the boss who got you in. When they exercise franchise to feel good but not hold the state responsible for basic security and amenities to key places of work like hospitals and go on to hire party volunteers on roll, its an ideal place for self privilege to be above law and morality. People like Sanjoy know they will be saved at all cost. Women safety had always been joke there. Its like hell to be a woman in India.

I am an Indian woman and it is truly very unsafe here, eve teasing or cat calling is an everyday occurrence here for women, victim blaming, and slut shaming is more prevalent rather than taking strict, pertinent laws that curb the rate of rapes by maximizing the capital punishment to the monstrous people who do these acts, even the act of a vulnerable woman intending to report is looked down in society as if she has been stripped off her dignity, it is very courageous for a woman to stand up for herself and even if she decides to report, she is questioned first , as in "what were you wearing?" , " did you do something to lead him on or give him wrong signals?"( this is true in most cases, again I am not generalizing there are also fake r* allegations but they are pretty less compared to this), I have fortunately always grown up in an area where I always felt safe but as an Indian woman, I will never have guts to step out alone at night because of how hellish and scary it is for me, my heart breaks for every women here, I can only manifest safety to every indian woman, my heart is very heavy, we are doomed as a society, India is not at all safe for us.

It's like you said, they have no respect for women. It's the type of society who have men rule the world, and they deem women as lesser. Women are expected to be married and bear kids, they need to know their place. Men go unpunished for abusing women, and somehow it's always the woman's fault. They fault her for being the one to instigate, maybe she made him unhappy, or DARED to say no, or blame it on the way she's dressed. If you ever seen those viral videos of women going to India being stared down at by CROWDS of men, that's exactly what your coworker's wife experienced. I know India can be beautiful but I would never want to go or want other women to go to India EVER because of news like Kolkata. If they treat their local women bad, why would we be any different?

I'm a men in India and I think I can help you analyse the problem of India, In India there has traditionally been customs to marry their children amoung the same castes and love does not see any caste or color, you can fall in love with a differnent caste and racial person easily, thats why society in modern India (the parents of the children) tell their child to not fall in love and they will marry them off to their choice, this is more strictly applied to a girl child then a boy, I remember my relatives asking me if I had any girlfriends in school while I never heard them ask the daughters in our household if they had any boyfriends, I as a kid was getting teased by my older cousin sister about girlfriend and stuff I accidently said to her what about your boyfriend and instantly got a beating from the realtives. So basically men are being promoted to indulge in love affairs while women are being told to not go out with men. This has created a shortfall in the dating market of women, you can go to dating apps and see it for yourself, there are 100 male to 1 female ratio maybe even worse in India dating apps. There is basically no means to get a date in India hence you have to relly on your family connections or matrimonial sites for marraige. So basically 90% of the males in India are sex deprived unlike in the west. Now educated and disciplined men can control their desires till they get married but 50% of the popultion is filled with depressed uneducated men and they look down on women for even small things like wearing western cloths, talking to men etc. If all Indian parents just let their daughters have boyfriends from early age like 15 years then the ratio of sexually deprived men will decrease and Indian society will improve.

@@polaris1985And also maybe if the "men and boys" learn to keep it in their pants. That'll help more don't you think so? Women are humans. Not rag dolls for men. Dating isn't the issue. The issue is indian being enabled to do whatever they want.

I’m a 18 year old Indian girl ,growing up my mom used to always be scared of me going and playing outside with my friends, even in the parking lot of our apartment building. I was probably like 7 when I heard my mom telling my grandma that a woman got graped in the street that I was living in at 5 pm, 5 fucking pm that really shocked me honestly and the fact that a police was living right in front of our house and they did nothing about it pissed me off , slowly the time I had to come back home went from 7 pm to 5 on to 3 pm. It’s so sad that my country doesn’t take this as seriously as it should. I wish we bring more stories like this to light so people understand how serious this is in India. And I DO NOT advise women to travel alone to India. My father was worried about my safety and he worked hard so we can move to Europe and I’m so thankful for that. I wish India got better politicians in the future. A woman hopefully.

Just to clarify, a fracture is the medical term for a broken bone. I've noticed in several videos that the word fracture is being used as a less severe word but it literally means broken bone. So a fracture is not less severe than a broken bone, because it's the same thing. There are several different types of fractures (broken bones) that might appear worse than the other because of type, but they all mean the same. Hope that helps.
