I commented on one of your earlier vid's concerning a 15000 mile journey I took with mt girlfriend in our 1968 camper bus. That took place in 1973-1974. So much has changed in the VW world since then, although with our 92mm x 69mm motor, we used a Scat billet crankshaft and back then, had to rework dual port heads by fly cutting them for larger barrels and more compression. Did my own porting work and installed big MANLY Valves, better springs, retainers and built my own rocker arm assemblies. Used a deep sump and external oil cooler & filter for more capacity and better cooling. You really scored getting hooked up with those folks, they clearly have the best at their disposal with years of combined knowledge. California and Volkswagons , they have always had it going on. There use to be a guy up here in Wa. State named Gene Berg that knew all the tricks back in the day to make lots of HP, but he too moved to Orange County to be closer to where it was all happening.

YEAH!!!...I AM SO SO HAPPY for you three...I include Alaska in there too. I have been watching you Ben from the beginning and how it is a nice fellow from a small English Isle with limited but mechanical skill came up with the idea to take an old VW bus on the journey you first did, is and always will be amazing to me, you are a true fearless explorer. The cute doggy from Peru and a classy lady with the best accent on the earth, (that being the Aussie one) did not hurt either and the friendships you made along the way and some of the episodes being at times emotional, happy and sometimes heart wrenching are all simply amazing. You have a gift with people and as well being in front of the camera. Here in North America I think people admire what you have done as many would like to do it themselves. Sadly they have had the idea put in there head that a journey like this could never be done, or it would be too costly or something horrible would happen along the way which you and your channel all proved wrong. I understand this the world is sketchy but at times I have as felt as safe or safer in a country in Central America where I barely speak the language then a do at night in my town of Nelson here in BC. I myself have epilepsy so driving around the world or any where for that matter will not be happening soon or ever..lol. I wish you folks nothing more than love and support and every week I constantly email VW North America and now Germany and ask them how they are not funding this show. This is hands down easily one of the best channels on KZbin and one of the most brilliant and entertaining ideas ever. You have managed to take two simple ideas, the super classic VW van which is loved and adored by people all over the planet and every one knows that people who love VW's are just cool and smart right from the get go, and travel. After all, who doesn't like travel? Your episodes are great the three of you are adorable in front of the lens, (once again I include Alaska in there too). So again travel safe, be well and I will find how to kill time til next Thursday.

Very wise and clever engine choice. This will give you more time on the road and less time in garage. Anyone who have ever built engine with electric injection and OBD2 port- knows the drill. Tech helps us to live van life in new level. Amazing content, quality and people! God bless

Nice work on choosing CB and Rancho. I run their stuff on my bus. I've got a Gen 2 CB EFI and it is still running strong.

Amazing story. I really enjoyed watching this. I have a short story for you. In 1970 our family of five drove a early Volkswagen bus from Tampa Florida to Portsmouth New Hampshire. Then across Canada. Crossing the Rocky Mountains was the most frightening. In one incident the road was frozen over like a dome. Naturally we slid off to an opening. While my dad and oldest brother looked at the situation the rest of us walked to what looked like a clearing. Actually we were a few feet from a cliff on the side of a mountain over looking a snow covered lake in a valley. The white out from the snow made you loose depth perception. Everything looked flat from the road. Soon locals brought us chains and we continued our trip. Drove along the gravel Alaskan Hwy to Anchorage. Stayed there while my dad got our place ready outside of Fairbanks. Slept through an earthquake, which my mother could not believe. I never felt it. Made it to Fairbanks and slept through all the northern lights. My mom said she couldn’t believe I slept through all of that. Alaska was the best place for a kid. We lived like the adventures of Huckleberry fin. Rafting rivers, eating blueberries in fields, raspberries along the river and fishing in the black waters of the lakes. I was more afraid of the gun my dad wore on his hip than I was of bears. I never saw a bear the whole time I was up there. Even while romping thru the woods. During the whole trip we slept in that bus. I had a special place to sleep. My bed was a little stubby four legged table over the engine. If I curled up I could lay across it on my side. After 3 years we drove back to Florida. We went from the bitter cold and snow to the gritty snow white sands and hot humid summers of beautiful Fort Walton Beach. I lived in Alaska from 9 to 11 years old. The best place for a kid.
