HI CBPerformance - Question - I want to build a similar engine - top concern being reliability and cooling. However different in that it will be run at 3100 rpm max - and spend 80% of its life at 3000 rpm. Are your Panchito or 44 heads better suited? Cheers Owen

People forget that when these rigs were new folks drove them across Africa and South America, around the world. They're very capable, just need to be returned to new or better condition to do it, not hobbling along on worn out parts. I"m sitting in my '82 on a beach in remote Mexico, doing fine, just needs plenty of preventative maintenance.

I am totally impressed!!!!..........I spent ten years totally addicted to VW air cooled vehicles! I drove a '74 bus from Holyoke mass to New Orleans on a brand new rebuilt engine that blew a hole in the cylinder head all because I didn't do a break-in valve adjustment, that was almost 30 years ago! What I'm surprised is that they didn't put hydraulic lifters in this incredible build!!!!!!........... watching this reminds me of the constant work I spent and the six or so engines that I broke in the quest to be a do it yourself-er! At one point in my folie I had 2 buses, a bug and a never finished 914! Since then, I realize that I became committed to trying to fix everything in my life myself!👊🏾😎👍🏾 hey, I just thought about something, it's quite possible the engine that I ORDERED FROM CALIFORNIA which was shipped to Massachusettes back in '89 could have come from CB!!!!!

@@DailyRealness .... The type of adjusters used in Ben's engine are much more reliable than stock. They don't pound out the valve ends like stock ones do, so the result is that the lash doesn't change as much. Ben will find out after a while, he isn't adjusting anything when he checks the lash.

@@DailyRealness ... When Ben learns how reliable the valvetrain will be, he doesn't have to check it right on the prescribed mileage mark. He can let it wait until he's in a comfortable location. I speak from experience. I drove my aircooled VW throughout Central America just after Ben was there. I have exactly the same valve adjusters Ben's new engine has, so I know how reliable they are. A valve lash check can be done in less than 10min. He's not going to be stuck in the middle of nowhere spending hours under his bus like you are imagining.
