HI CBPerformance - Question - I want to build a similar engine - top concern being reliability and cooling. However different in that it will be run at 3100 rpm max - and spend 80% of its life at 3000 rpm. Are your Panchito or 44 heads better suited? Cheers Owen

People forget that when these rigs were new folks drove them across Africa and South America, around the world. They're very capable, just need to be returned to new or better condition to do it, not hobbling along on worn out parts. I"m sitting in my '82 on a beach in remote Mexico, doing fine, just needs plenty of preventative maintenance.

this is exactly the kind of stuff we love! CB Performance builds the best aircooled motors. Kombi Life is going to be driving miles and miles, relatively worry free. 96 horsepower is really nice for a VW Bus. Many VW Buses have less than half of that. Thanks for showing us such detail, many of us are genuinely interested in it.

I am totally impressed!!!!..........I spent ten years totally addicted to VW air cooled vehicles! I drove a '74 bus from Holyoke mass to New Orleans on a brand new rebuilt engine that blew a hole in the cylinder head all because I didn't do a break-in valve adjustment, that was almost 30 years ago! What I'm surprised is that they didn't put hydraulic lifters in this incredible build!!!!!!........... watching this reminds me of the constant work I spent and the six or so engines that I broke in the quest to be a do it yourself-er! At one point in my folie I had 2 buses, a bug and a never finished 914! Since then, I realize that I became committed to trying to fix everything in my life myself!👊🏾😎👍🏾 hey, I just thought about something, it's quite possible the engine that I ORDERED FROM CALIFORNIA which was shipped to Massachusettes back in '89 could have come from CB!!!!!

Welcome back guys :) We have 3 things to say this week... 1) If you haven't seen the main episode where we build our round the world expedition engine, then definitely watch that first! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ_OqZidmJyMoZY 2) How much did this cost? What are the specs? Why we had so many engine failures previously -> www.cbperformance.com/Articles.asp?ID=340 3) You'll either love this video, or you'll find it "too techy". Don't worry, next Thursday we start putting some miles on the Kombi and begin the 'Overland Transformation' - we can't wait to share our progress. Support the channel and give this vid a THUMBS UP! I have Panchito heads on my 1776 for my bay. I’m real happy to hear of others who think like me. I also have a rear engine hanger, modified tin, and remote oil filter and cooler. I decided to do non full flow ser up, however. There are pro and con on that, and the pro is that if any leaks develop outside in the external loop, it can be just capped off. With full flow you cannot isolate the leak. You must repair it.

@@DailyRealness ... When Ben learns how reliable the valvetrain will be, he doesn't have to check it right on the prescribed mileage mark. He can let it wait until he's in a comfortable location. I speak from experience. I drove my aircooled VW throughout Central America just after Ben was there. I have exactly the same valve adjusters Ben's new engine has, so I know how reliable they are. A valve lash check can be done in less than 10min. He's not going to be stuck in the middle of nowhere spending hours under his bus like you are imagining.

E-Curb What a headache. I hope he at LEAST has the sense to sell it for a killing and then go to Europe and find a real 4x4 van that will suit his needs instead of this silly hippy van. My very first car was a '65 baja bug. Loved it! I think you have made some great decisions about the engine/trans combination. Fuel injection should provide a lot of reliability and a smooth running engine regardless of altitude. Just make certain that you have clean gas. I'm sure CB has been through all of that with you. Looking forward to your adventures! I think the only thing I might have done differently would be front disk brakes.

Now you have got an engine of very high specifications, its going to be up to you to drive it more sympathetically then your previous engines.. Gouging at the throttle going uphill with the previous underpowered engines with an excessive load trying to go too fast, was the cause of the many engine failures..... Please be sympathetic to this beautifully engineered power plant !!

I've watched quite a few of your guys's videos I'm very happy for you for finally getting any high quality engine installedand if worse comes to worst out in the middle of nowhere you most likely can take off the fuel injection system slap on an intake and carburetor and be on your way until you can get the injection system

I’ve never met a person - male or female - who didn’t love their VW bus. They might have had to sell it as their family or needs changed but still loved talking about them.
