I think that it helped Tadano that, unlike the other guys, he actually knows more about Komi than the others, and has more understanding of what kind of person she is. They had very little to base their fantasies on, other than her good looks. That's even more evident during the fantasy. He understands how significant it would be for Komi to allow for any sort of physical contact with her, even casually. And he still believes that he's not worthy of her. When she allows him to get that close, it suddenly opens the door to other possibilities, and his brain has a meltdown. Tadano may think of himself as boring, but actually he has a lot of class, and that is a very good thing.
