Sadly or happily (depends on your perspective) all the ones I saw recently were all ebike conversion, extremely popular in the local DUI crowd ... I have fond memories of this bike, especially the sick yellow 2001...

Excuse my rambling but I LOVE Kona bikes... the frame designs, ride quality, colors, subtle graphics in incredible attention to detail not many major brands do anymore or ever did in the first place... from the subtle graphics on the handlebars to the part of the frame joining the seat stays and chain stays leading to the dropouts. Even that is designed to look cool and not generic with a subtle K in the metal work if you look closely...SO unique! I'm prior Air Force, so I truly appreciate the attention to detail all over the bike since attention to detail is a big deal in the military for good reason! Even the Kona graphics on the seat stays, top tube and underside of the down tube fade from solid black to fading dots... so impressive when other brands go bland to save money. I chose a Kona Mahuna hardtail over lauded pricier models from Trek, Marin and Specialized because it looked and handled better. My first Kona hardtail was a used Mahuna. I was SO lucky to find it at a LBS in Virginia during the pandemic. It was my introduction to the brand! I was so tired of bike hunting all over the DC area for months since a decent looking new or used mountain bike that had hydraulic brakes was SO hard to find then. It was a 2012 but looked brand new and handled better than even newer bikes from other brands I tried once bike shops were able to get inventory again. That says a lot about Kona's dialed in frame geometries! The previous owner must have had it stored in a climate controlled environment for years! There wasn't rust anywhere on it! I sold it recently in just one week because it's still a nice looking bike with a sick factory emerald green paint job plus the tan wall WTB Trail Boss tires I added and brought a brand new one in an ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS "gloss plumb" purple a couple of months ago. I added a OneUp V3 dropper post, Wolf Tooth remote, Raceface Atlas flats with the stunning topographical design, silver nipples as a contrast to the black spokes and very nice black WTB rims. I also changed out the stock brakes for the Shimano 401/410 set with snappy feeling levers and calibers that stop the bike on a dime!! EVERYWHERE I go people are like "Nice looking bike!" I won't ride anything else and I have test ridden many brands as a hobby.

My first Kona is my Rove gravel bike. Affordable, rides well and looks great. I hate to admit it, but the last one matters to me -- it's great colour (a deep red/brown) and graphics. The fact I love looking at it makes me want to ride ot more!

I have built up a Kona Sutra as my commuter to XC bike and everything in-between 😍 I also wanted to build up a Kona Honzo ESD, but the local dealer was... Well... Not so well... In the end I based my Enduro Hardtail on a Ragley Big Wig 😊 but I would love to get a Honzo ESD...maybe some day

That's awesome news! It would have been a huge loss otherwise. I'd like to see the return of the "Kula" - modernized of course, radical sloping top tube, more trail oriented / downcountry, in carbon (as a Yeti Arc "Killer" ). Maybe in the spot where the normal Honzo has been at 130mm front, and having the Honzo at the place the Honzo DL stands lately with 140mm. And yes loud colors please!!! Pink, purple, bright green, turquoise - and cool decails. Btw. I like the Bigfoot Dude on the frames...

Kona has to be on super thin margins, though moving forward they saw a private capital company buying and selling the parts, they bought all the parts.

Good news! I've never ridden or sold Kona, but I know they have a bunch of loyal customers out there. The bike industry has lost a LOT of truly amazing brands over the decades (Trek SUCKS!), it would be nice to see this trend not continue. Good luck to Kona.

I honestly think a great (cheap) way to announce they are back would be to build a new Humu Humu, and make it as nuts/bizarre as they were in the 1990's. I would gladly sidestep the brands that I get industry deals with tp buy that bike in a heartbeat.

Kona needs to sell FRAMES. F*** the distribution channel. I have a 1998 Rockhopper Nitanium frame that I've turned into a LAMP. That's how much that frame matters to the 15 year old inside of me.
