The thing was at this time the Metroidvanias were still being released. It's not a "back to basics" when they were released like a year before this came out. And look, the Metroidvanias and Classicvanias appeal to different people, so I don't really see an issue with it. Also Belmont's Revenge is excellent.

Good video glad to see more folks talk about the rebirth trillogy but at the same time I gotta laugh at you because you find Contra so hard. It's the easiest and shortest contra game in the series and I'm pretty bad at the other games. (this isn't a gamer flex i'm bad at contra personally) I can't really blame you tho because we live in a gaming era where there are so many gaming options from some legal ways or being a pirate and there have been some games that aren't really hard that I just lost interest after getting 1 game over rather than me getting good and it's kind a double edged sword in modern gaming. We have so many great games but our tolerance to put up with failure varies because we have so many games to play. Hope more people really get to play these rebirth games. Heck back in 2017 there were rumours of the Rebirth Trillogy coming to the switch around november... eh but sadly no such luck. I'm not a big gradius or shmup fan. Castlevania rebirth was hella fuckin good used to play a crap ton of CV in my late teens including rebirth. CV rebirth is the best and longest along with replay value since there are multiple paths to take similar to rondo of blood (another CV game I love snuggling up with) Konami recently has been porting more of the first NES contra, super contra and Contra Hard corps which is a fucking god tier run n gun game like holy fucking shit post apocalyptic and I get to play as a Cyborg werewolf and a cute lil droidy fucking yes plz.

I prefer the classic style of castlevania. rebirth is my first but also my favorite castlevania. but different boats I suppose.
